  1. Speaking of which, how's Moose doing these days? I assume his knuckles are healing well.
  2. We needed to bring our A game. We didn't. So...not a shocking series outcome. But as many have noted, there's plenty of time to still make a run. This is the kind of stretch in which we really miss Brantley or a similarly dependable bat. Steady hitters like him aren't going to carry an offense, but they sure help bridge gaps and keep innings going long enough for the next hot bat to do damage with men on base. This year we've had very few back-to-back hot bats in the lineup at any one time. That puts extra pressure on the secondary guys to string together enough singles and walks to score. Big innings don't tend to be the result. I can think of much worse ideas than trying Diaz at 2 between Altuve and Tucker. As long as he's somewhere in the lineup every day, that matters most of all.
  3. Maybe give JJ another shot. Hard to imagine he'd hit worse than our current bench brigade. Then again, if he can't also throw 6 innings of 2-run ball, he's not turning this ship around by himself.
  4. In retrospect, was Seattle the toughest team we faced last fall? I think so. They came within a couple swings of knocking us out. They might not have improved much since then, at least on paper, but we've for sure taken a big step back.
  5. Right now we're so lifeless I almost expect us to win 7-6. I said almost.
  6. At least it's almost football season.
  7. I think that's the most optimistically it can be put. Any other scenario is even more grim.
  8. Alternating double-digit scoring games with getting held to 3 or fewer is how you average quite a few runs and yet still lose quite a few games. Few staffs these days pitch well enough to win many of the latter.
  9. I agree we're definitely in the mix. My point is that winning two titles with different rosters and managers in different competitive environments was great but has nada to do with this year's squad. We haven't consistently played at even a division-winning level thus far. Can we? I think so, provided we get and stay healthy. But we all realize it will take much better play (and strategy) to get us there. I really hope that starts tonight, and it needs to.
  10. This particular team hasn't won anything. Hopefully that changes, but it will take a serious surge. I'm just not seeing sustained evidence of it.
  11. I'm now prepared to get swept this weekend and will pleasantly surprised if we aren't. I suppose we can't help whatever is ailing Tucker, but his absence only ramps up the need to field our best possible available lineup. Instead, we get this misarranged hodgepodge from the Dustinator. Of course, he knows all and will keep trying to prove it.
  12. Is PeΓ±a involved in more 6-3 outs as a defender or as a hitter? Serious question, because I think it's a close call.
  13. If Tucker's so sick he wouldn't still be one of our nine best bats, he must be in a coma. Even then I'd bat him over Maldy.
  14. We'll either get him or we won't. You know, 50-50. 😎

  16. He's a freak. With proper coaching and culture, the motor sometimes improves. Starting from 6-7, 285 pounds and 4.75 speed lessens the need to maximize his potential.
  17. I thought we cooled on Bussey once Hampton committed. If he's still reaching out to us after being a priority for aggy, that's really good news. Between the fact Bussey is a mega-talent and Hampton is a flighty guy who's left the fold once already, I'd be thrilled to learn we're rejoining the chase.
  18. On principle alone, I nominate Brady Aiken.
  19. Loved most, April-September: Biggio and Bagwell Hated most, October: Biggio and Bagwell
  20. Guy evidently is pretty good. Let's go ahead and get him. https://www.si.com/college/oregon/recruiting/oregon-commit-jordan-anderson-named-alpha-dog-by-247sports-at-ot7-austin
  21. During the Astros' prolonged run of excellence, one thing that's puzzled me is our home record. We've tended to be remarkably good out on the road, even against the better teams, so common sense suggests we'd be simply dominant at home. But quite often β€” including this year β€” we really haven't been all that fearsome at MMP. If there's a widely known explanation of this, I've yet to read it.
  22. Get 5 more and see if Montero can take us home.
  23. I just hope Pena finishes the year driving in more runs than he lets in.
