  1. So Democrats can’t campaign FOR their candidate, as he is historically unpopular and the vast majority of the country thinks he is incapable mentally of leading. They also are now functionally unable to campaign AGAINST the other candidate, as speaking the truth about the man will be viewed as inappropriate. Turn off the lights, this one is over.
  2. Yep, this is gonna turn me into the Joker.
  3. The fact that we will all get to listen to folks like Trump, MTG, and Ted Cruz complain about the toxic political climate over the next few days is enough to drive a man insane.
  4. We have to have the most incompetent medical staff in all of professional sports.
  5. Chances he makes it to campus?
  6. I just want to beat Trump. I think Biden's been a fine president and is a good man, but I have no specific loyalty to him nor do I think he "deserves" anything. I think the odds of him running a "old moment"-free campaign for the next four months are next to nil. You can whine and complain that coverage of Biden is different than coverage of Trump and you'd be absolutely right, but that's as useful as a basketball coach complaining in 2024 that some shots are worth 3 points while others are only worth 2. It's the rules of the game, like it or not, and you must adjust accordingly. I also think "will this guy survive the next four years?" is a perfectly valid question for voters to ask themselves and those just waving off the voters concerned by it have a poor understanding of the American electorate as a whole. Bottom line: If I was a betting man, Trump beats both. I think the best case for the Biden campaign is a slow, boring trudge over the next four months that results in a squeaker of a victory. Worst case, he has some moments where his age is evident and the bottom absolutely falls out of his campaign. For Kamala, I think the worst case is similar to Joe, but the best case is completely unknown. Sometimes, all a team needs is a coaching change midseason to give everyone a shot in the arm and then the positivity snowballs. And sometimes a team switches coaches and absolutely nothing changes. I don't know the answer, but I feel like I know exactly what will happen if Joe stays in and it worries me. For that reason, I would choose the mystery box of Kamala... but I understand why this is a tough call and I would much rather be on the other side of the aisle at this time. (Note: The absolute certain way to lose would be for Joe to be replaced but for him to publicly air his grievances with the decision. It CANNOT appear like it was "taken" from him, even if that's the reality. Without at least an appearance of buy-in from Biden, this conversation is moot.)
  7. https://www.politico.com/news/2024/07/11/nato-allies-weakened-biden-trump-return-00167424 There's definitely more out there, we'll see if last night stops the drip-drip-drip.
  8. Tonight makes the debate performance even more frustrating. If Tonight Joe showed up to the debate, age concerns wouldn’t have made it past the Breitbart section of the internet. Not knowing which Joe will show up is a scarier prospect than knowing for a fact that he’s gone up there.
  9. Feel like the fact that we are all waiting with bated breath to see if the president can handle a press conference kinda answers the electability question in itself

  10. Biden's current predicament, in one graph. (This isn't just a reaction to the debate. The debate merely brought an underlying issue to the forefront.)
  11. By overshadowed, I meant that Biden's age was THE talking point post-Debate. On this website, on social media, in text groups... nobody remembers the crazy shit Trump said that night (and there was a lot) because everyone was so busy talking about Joe.
  12. And now, when you put them together on the same stage, Joe's oldness far overshadows whatever the hell comes out of Trump's mouth.
  13. It's funny, because our percentages are fairly similar but I have the scenarios reversed. This isn't a scandal that gets better with time. It's just who he is. Every single time he opens his mouth or takes a step is a new opportunity for "Biden is old!" to be hammered into the heads of anyone remotely paying attention. I think removing far and away the single biggest target on your back is a smart strategy. Sure, the right will find new attack angles but there will be a limited amount of time for those to take hold. That being said, this slow drip-drip-drip march to the guillotine is absolutely the worst way to go about it, and any chance of success will require Biden to get behind the change, which it is increasingly becoming evident will not happen. So, in short, doomed.
  14. I disagree. There's "Dumbledore" old and there's "nursing home" old. There's a big difference in electability between the two, and I think a lot of folks moved Biden from one to the other after the debate.
  15. It was evident at the time, and many here expressed skepticism at the idea. My fear though was that it would easily generate a few meme viral clips, not that Joe would be a walking corpse. There are ways to hide whatever is happening to Joe. A debate puts ALL of the bad shit front and center.
  16. The SEC move was strategic and understandable. The BIG move (not that I think there's any real truth to it) would be suicide.
  17. Not great when the guy who conducted the interview that was supposed to save the campaign is telling strangers on the street that you can't last 4 more years.
  18. I can't speak to the motives of NYT opinion writers or billionaire donors, but I know there are millions of people like me who turned to their spouse after 10 minutes of debate watching and said "oh shit, Trump is gonna be President again." Go back and read the debate game thread - there's no messaging psy-op there, no coordinated campaign from elites to choose a candidate, just a bunch of internet dorks reaching the same conclusion in real-time. Brushing this all off as some deep state conspiracy is bordering on Alex Jones territory.
  19. The cherry picking goes both ways though. There has been a clear national shift in polls since the debate (Biden was slightly ahead on 6/25 in the above graph.)
  20. He squeaked by in one election during extremely favorable conditions for a challenger. He's had an incredibly successful presidency, yet has had historically low approval ratings almost the entire time. He's the first Democrat to be trailing in July national polls since 2000. The idea that he's some "real American" whisperer is based much more in hope than reality.
  21. That's a "Fuck you, Houston" path if I've ever seen one.
