  1. Volunteer Asst. is coming from Oregon, was a former player and has been with the staff ever since. Not sure about D Ops. I don't know of any that declined the job, but I do know of one coach who declined to interview both at Oregon (while MW was still there) and at Texas. I don't have a problem with friends hiring friends in this business, because honestly that's kind of how it works. But in a situation like this one where the comfort hire was made over the smart one, that's a different story. As someone mentioned above, the level of talent of your players is more important than the hitting coach, and I agree. And I think that's where the shortcomings in this staff will be, getting talent. There is no denying that MW is the best in the business with pitchers, and Spencer is near the top if not at it when it comes to developing defensive players. But MW needed this hire to be an ace recruiter, and he didn't get that. Pretty simple.
  2. Janna and Jaden are walk-ons, given a spot by the previous staff.
  3. I'm less disappointed in what may/may not become of our offense, but more in that we don't have a recruiter. This hire really needed to be some who would be exceptional there, and I think we missed that mark by a lot.
  4. Or maybe you look outside of D1
  5. Here is what we are getting in a hitting coach, by the numbers: 2018 (18-19 record) Batting Average: .295 Homeruns: 29 Strikeouts: 166 Walks: 70 2017 (20-35 record) Batting Average: .268 Homeruns: 21 Strikeouts: 238 Walks: 99 2016 (17-33 record) Batting Average: .277 Homeruns: 41 Strikeouts: 255 Walks: 91 Additionally, none of the three coaches have any ties to Texas in any capacity (for recruiting purposes), and none of the three are strong recruiters. Kolaitis did 99% of the recruiting at Oregon.
  6. Prepare to be underwhelmed with the hire.
  7. And he's probably waiting to see if Oregon is going to match the Texas offer.
  8. I haven’t heard much on this process (which is odd), but I got a text this morning saying it may actually be Mike White. The media in Eugene seem to be prepping the masses for that being the case.
  9. I hadn't heard about his preference to work with hitters, and if that's so, then we really are getting Clark 2.0 Agree on Gasso...my sources (who are pretty good with Team USA) say that's exactly why you see her head coaching the B team this summer. Maybe with her taking over we'll get back to being serious with who makes the tryouts and who gets picked. Eriksen's personal vendettas with certain coaches and programs has kept several players off the list that are more than deserving.
  10. That would be an epically bad hire. Here's why: That would be two pitching coaches on staff. That would leave hitting and defense to one person, and that would be a tall order to fill. Ken Eriksen has not recruited in years. Because of his Team USA commitments he can't recruit, but even before that he didn't, he let his staff do it. I still contend that the head coach here needs to be an elite recruiter. Additionally, because of Team USA, he can only recruit from ASA sanctioned events, which means we would be cut off from pretty much all of the elite talent in the country. Let's be honest, if it weren't for Team USA, Ken Eriksen wouldn't be on anyone's list, much less a job of this magnitude. This hire would be made because of that title, and from what I'm hearing, he won't have that title after this summer anyway. I would be thoroughly disgusted with this hire, and frankly, it wouldn't be any better than keeping Clark would have been...with the exception of getting Cat back on the Forty Acres.
  11. If this is the case, it won't be Lawson, White, Deifel or Ford as they were all out recruiting for their current teams as of yesterday. If it were a done deal, as Bohls eludes to, it's not them. So if it's not them, and it's not Kolaitis, I'm really worried we are scraping the bottom of the barrel at this point. Oh, and Cat is out of town on vacation in Greece, so...
  12. Here's what is real sad, he didn't even get a sniff. In fact, he uses the same agent as Coach Pierce and the agent couldn't get his name in front of the right people. Koalitis would have been a tremendous hire...at this point I have zero clue who we are targeting but I can't imagine them being better than Koalitis would have been. He will be very successful at UAB and mark my words, he will be at an SEC school sooner rather than later and will be wildly successful there too. Pretty disappointed in this one.
  13. Midwesthorn - at least if you’re going to be “that guy” try and tell the whole story.
  14. I didn't include Alameda in that group of 3, but she's an interesting one to watch. While I can't see it happening because of how ingrained in the FSU community she and her staff are, I know there are some frustrations on her part as well (avg. pay for her and her assistants, lack of quality of ACC, etc.). For sure FSU is going to have to open up the checkbook, especially for the assistants. Also winning the Natty and then bailing would be a bold statement. Now that Louisville is open I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that Snider could go there...he is from Kentucky and his familiarity with the ACC has to make him a top candidate there I would think. Tarr - Played at UW, won't be leaving there ever. White - Loves Oregon because the climate is a perfect match to New Zealand...it literally feels like home for him. Moore - Baylor is in a better spot than Texas right now, they love him there, and will pay big $ to keep him. Same type of stuff Patterson gets at TCU...not actual salary but lots if incentives and off the books stuff. Murphy - very underwhelming in my opinion and I hope we don't even kick those tires. I also think the shenanigans he pulled with LSU will keep potential employers at bay. KIP - UCLA born and bred, best friends with Fernandez...same as Tarr, not leaving. Ford - A PAC coach isn't leaving a PAC school, especially when that conference is on the rise. Also a west coaster. Deifel - I think she's at her dream job, or close to it. She just made Supers with a very young team, Arkansas has facilities and money, and it's SEC SEC of course. Kenny G - Oklahoma boy at an Oklahoma school where they are having success. I think Oklahoma is the only place he'd leave for...or maybe back to Florida if Walton is the choice at Texas.
  15. That's a really good list, and Texas should shake the trees on all of them. However, realistically, only 3 of the 11 you listed would leave their current situation. For many reasons, Texas is really not a top job right now. It's not a situation where a new coach will walk in and win immediately. Facilities are severely lacking, and because of the recruiting landscape for the past several years and how poorly Texas has recruited, from that standpoint Texas is really behind the 8-ball so to speak. Frankly, this is a total rebuild, which is why I think looking at some of the top assistants is the correct way to go. Proven recruiters from proven programs who are ready to step in and make a program their own. I still think Jimmy Kolaitis and Craig Snider should be at the top of the list, after making Walton say no, of course.
  16. Lonnie Alameda is making a strong case for getting a phone call.
  17. Anyone see the interview they did with him where they asked him specifically about the Texas job?
  18. Tim is a pipe dream and isn't happening...he will use UT for a pay raise. He is getting a brand new, state of the art facility that will one-up what aTm just built. They've already torn down the entire complex in Gainesville. Plus his son is playing JUCO baseball in the Gainesville area. The only thing that may work in our favor with getting Walton is that his wife does not like living in the area. Pete D'Amour is a young star, you are correct there. And an excellent guy. Would have been a great hire for us on the field, but he is a very low key guy and would not have liked being the HC at Texas. He is the anti glitz, glamour and fame that is demanded from coaches at Texas. Kolaitis isn't going to NC State...book it.
  19. She is the polar opposite of Earleywhine and that was the main criteria for Mizzou. Safe hire.
  20. Gerry Glascoe would be a great hire, BUT, there is NO way he should be looking at this job. It would be his fourth school in less than a calendar year and that is a really bad look, even if it is a step up. I'm pretty sure he is hoping to end up back at aTm when Evans retires, and I don't think he's willing to take Texas for that reason.
  21. There were 3 people interviewed a couple of years ago when the assistant job was open (and McKay was not one of the 3). Two of those people need to be interviewed for the Head job and they are the only two that need to be interviewed. Either would be a homerun hire and would have an immediate impact...Jimmy Kolaitis, asst. at Oregon, and Craig Snider, asst. at Florida State. The list should begin and end with those two.
  22. Apparently he has carpal tunnel because he has an addiction to Fortnite...wtf? Oh, but he'll be cured to start on Saturday. Seriously, what a puss!
