  1. Yes, I’m separately friends with her son. Glad she apparently wasn’t there that day.
  2. https://www.texasmonthly.com/news-politics/texas-flood-firsthand-account/ A first hand account regarding my prior post.
  3. Just found out our very good friends lost their toddler while their river house was ripped apart in Kerrville. Mom saved the older child. Absolutely devastating.
  4. Who knows where they would end up if Maga is defeated, but Tim and Bill Kristol have shockingly been more on the pulse regarding the grotesque deportations (and frankly many other issues) than most of the Dem leaders have. They are podcast hosts so very different stakes involved, but it’s a bit disheartening that former neocons are more passionate leaders on these issues than many true-blue dems. I do think Tim and Bill pretty frequently castigate themselves over their wrongly-held prior beliefs. Sarah less so.
  5. She was a college softball player…I think she may be protesting a bit too much.
  6. Well, we’ve upgraded our plans from lightly pursuing an out-of-state move to a serious pursuit of AU/NZ residence. I had a pretty pessimistic view of how this would all shake out, but it has somehow managed to outpace my own morbid imagination. I imagine our family is only a few rungs up on the scapegoat ladder from where we’re at now, and I don’t intend to wait around and find out if we can help it. It will probably take at least a year to get the visa we will need, so no time like the present.
  7. Loving Collin from Accounts on recommendation from this thread. I loved the Other Two. The main actress was from one of my favorite High Maintenance episodes, so I was very happy to see her getting more work. I would recommend it universally, but it does have some very specifically targeted humor at times. Would also recommend Search Party (now on Max). It takes you on quite the ride.
  8. I think the key messaging point should be “What’s in [any of this] for you?” It transcends race, class, gender, and wouldn’t pin you down to any one lane of political ideology.
  9. I did just get out of a partners meeting that had a few old-school Reagan types, and when the question of whether we should hire more associates in one of the groups came up, one of them shouted “We better not! We’re about to tip into a recession because of these fucking, god-damn moronic tariffs!” Everyone in the room then laughed and nodded along.
  10. This is actually one of my practice sub-specialities, although I don’t do as much as I once did. Deals incorporating some sort of Ijarah (similar to a ground lease) structure are fairly common place and offered by all the big players. I realize he’s throwing red meat to the base, but this is such an anti-business attitude, which I thought was all we cared about in Texas.
  11. I think this is right except that the three women remain “friends” after the ordeal and begrudgingly indicate that they will talk soon/plan their next trip.
  12. Love the Player and immediately caught the nod to Griffin. Really digging this show. Episode 2 created a curb-meets-uncut gems level of anxiety in me.
  13. I’ve never felt so seen
  14. I would venture it’s likely to be a genetic or autoimmune condition like autoimmune hepatitis, Wilson’s, Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) or PSC. I know someone (36F, marathon runner, doesn’t drink, thin, healthiest person I know) with PBC who is currently dealing with this and will likely be facing a liver transplant in the next decade.
