  1. He says nothing on the subject in the New Testament that I'm aware of. Likely because the very idea was considered nonsensical (or rather not considered at all) in that time and place. And yet through at least the first 1900 years of the Christian tradition marriage was between a man and a woman only and both the Latin and the Eastern Church are completely explicit that this has not changed. How can one be a catholic and also 'support' same-sex marriage, for a catholic the very term is a contradiction
Why nonsensical? The very Rome that executed Jesus had gay marriage. So did Egypt in the time of the Old Testament.

If your reasoning holds true, you should ideally go to a female physician that studied medicine in a third world Islamic country with a physical handicap that made it as a practicing physician in the US because given "the historic discrimination" against someone from her gender, ethnic, religious, and functional backgrounds, she had to "prove" herself "more to overcome the stigma."

The DO stigma is there because of multiple things including the insistence of osteopathic manipulation in their curriculum so that they can stand apart from the allopathic curriculum, the fact that their average admission requirements (GPA and MCAT) are on the whole lower than allopathic medical schools, and that their medical licensing exams are a joke compared to allopathic medical licensing exams. So in reality, a lot less to overcome considering their pathway into medicine is and was a whole lot easier. That being said, there are several awesome DOs in various medical specialties. But you don't go to a physician because of the two letters behind his/her name, you go because of their qualifications to treat medical conditions which is more of a function of their postgraduate training and that individual's commitment to delivering good clinical medicine.

And the new organ is really not "new." It was two separate components (interstitial tissue and interstitial fluid) together (interstitium) that are now being functionally viewed as organs. With new research, the components appears to function more so in a system. Remember, cells comprise tissues, tissues comprise organs.   https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/27/health/new-organ-interstitium-study/index.html

Exactly. But note the operative phrase in my post "everything else being equal."

I'm talking about specialists so they're all board certified and clearly qualified. The do had to work harder to get that position at that hospital, and yeah if there's a disabled black gay Muslim Downs syndrome orthopedic surgeon and I need an orthopedic surgeon, you're damn right I'm going to think he's way better than anyone else at his job.

  3. My wife is a DO and she's the head of a department at a top hospital.

She doesn't like osteopathic manipulation and thinks it's BS, but I was listening in science Friday last week and they had the scientist on who discovered that new organ recently, and he said its existence makes it look like osteopaths were right all along about some of their claims that MDs had been dismissive of. Also suggested the same regarding acupuncture.

Personally I try and go to DOs for whatever specialist I need because given the historic discrimination against them, I figure all other things being held equal, an MS and a DO in the same position, the DO is probably better because of having to prove themselves more to overcome the stigma.

  4. I also really want to figure out a sweet RFID solution that i'll have with me at all times in the house (put one in my PJs waistband or something?) so I can program my house to behave certain ways as I move around, like when I get out of bed it heats up the espresso machine so i can brew as soon as i get down there, etc.

oh yeah i have one of the nest thermostats that will turn the AC/heat on when i'm on my way home, which is pretty neat in theory but since we have pets that we spoil it doesn't get used in practice

  5. wemo plug with an IR heater plugged in sitting in the garage facing my home gym so i can get the barbell warmed up before i go out in 10 F weather to lift

a number of lifx wifi lights (no hub required) that will do any color + IR

ibaby monitor with night vision, temp/humidity/VOC sensors, etc.

soil moisture sensors + automated sprinkler system that i can control via web interface or API calls I built myself

a number of docker containers running designed by me, one for example watches the network for IIRC ARP packets from those amazon clicker things, one of which i used months ago to mark when our baby started or stopped drinking a bottle and then i could pull up a graph later

long term i plan to have sensors for all circuits in the house to monitor electricity use, primarily so when my wife says "your computer is on too much" i can point out how very little power computers use compared to refrigerators and shit

Edit: also alexa with some custom apps i wrote to help me cook hands free using recipes, a Zipp Mini smart speaker that I have some code on my network running to stream white noise to when I put the baby down for a nap, i think some other things

I basically dick around coming up with Doc Brown bullshit in my copious free time

I'm sure that was the driving factor, but he's also a businessman. I'm wondering if he's going to at least try to make some money out of the thing. Or if he's smart enough to realize how unlikely that will be. Given the technical literacy displayed at the trial, I'm unsure of the answer on that.

I've been wondering if he even bothers to pay someone to pick the equipment up or if he's fine with knowing he can fuck it at any time

There were a lot of reasons Tapa is a choice for those who like it:

    Night mode

    Open automatically to participated threads

Auto-jump to first unread without having to hit a star or go to a stream

Customizable number of posts per page

    Among others.

Also one app that manages many of your forum memberships instead of having to remember a fuckload of passwords and shit.

  8. I'm running a mirror script on the old site in case this doesn't happen. If no one transfers it over, I can make it available on Github or something later for anyone to download and check out. If you download it and then run `python -m SimpleHTTPServer 8000` and then in your browser go to `http://localhost:8000` it'll be just like you're on the Shag. But the mirror isn't done yet, and if it doesn't finish before the server goes down, then it's not happening.

But yeah, my second thought after seeing blacklab's post about this shitshow (first was "time to scrub my shit off the site") was that the hilarious dick comics and classics need to be preserved.
