  1. FAFO indeed. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/01/us/oregon-legislators-walkout-supreme-court.html tldr: Oregon State Senate rules require 2/3 of senators to be present to vote on a bill. R senators in the minority don't show up so bills they know they will lose won't get voted on (bills about taxes, climate, abortion, guns, etc). People pass a constitutional amendment that says if you miss more than 10 votes you are barred from re-election. Oregon Supreme Court rules, and I quote "FAFO". Now 9 (out of 12) R senators plus one Independent senator cannot run for re-election. 6 this year, plus 4 in 2026. entire article:
  2. First paragraph, meh. I give it a C- Second paragraph, nice rant-- solid A Edit: Speaking of Dollar General-- I will walk ten miles before shopping at Dollar General, but wife insisted we stop by there yesterday for a few things. Out of morbid curiosity, I went in with her. Its been years since I've been in one. Horrifying. Absolutely horrifying. Anybody who thinks we need more people needs to spend more time in a Dollar General. I came out of there rooting for the next virus.
  3. Why does Mrs. Shadden hate freedom?
  4. Me too. But not for the exercise, more so I can feel superior.
  5. I honestly really really hope y'all are correct. But I'm old and cynical. Its not the yutes that will give this election to Biden. Its the auto workers in Pennsylvania. Its the blacks in Georgia.
  6. Hey, he travels. From godforbidden Florida in the winter, to goforbidden New Jersey in the summer. Also, hard to world travel when you have to be in court every couple of weeks.
  7. link to meltdown?
  8. Good. But I'm guessing she would be can't waiting to vote the orange piece of shit even if she wasn't a Swift fan.
  9. He should have filed a grievance with the union. Oh, wait.
  10. remind us who won that election? Point is, I'm not sure the "Tay-Tay Effect" will be as big as some of y'all seem to thing it will be.
  11. counterpoint: worth a billion dollars. Would bang.
  12. Me and the wife started it. I got about halfway and said "enough".
  13. Oh, they need drivers. Badly. But with all the school shootings and everything else fucked up about today's society, I bet its probably becoming more common.
  14. I'm not retired, but long ago I was a volunteer DJ at the local NPR station. Then one day, a friend who is a teacher called me up and said the district needed a stadium PA announcer for home football games, and suggested I would have a good voice for it. So, I talked to the AD, and got hired on the spot. That led to working the game clock at basketball games and other crap like that. The pay ain't great, something like 25 bucks a game for middle school games, 35 for JV games, 50 for varsity, but being the PA announcer at home football games in a small Texas town is fun.
  15. My daughter (8th grade) rides the bus home maybe once a week or so. Normally she has afterschool stuff. But, all the buses, in addition to a driver, have a teacher or other district employee on the bus who is responsible for all the bullshit, plus making sure the kids get off at the right stop. So, it sounds like the driver doesn't have to deal with any of that. Plus, she says this bus monitor is a grade A, hardcore bitch. Every time she rides the bus, she gets off complaining about how mean the bus monitor is. I just shrug and say "good. That's why she's the bus monitor." Back to the OP, bus drivers also drive the athletes or other school groups to away games and events. They get mileage while driving and min wage for down time (sitting around during the game or whatever).
  16. In college I had a friend who drove a shuttle limo for a nice hotel in Austin (don't really remember which one). Whenever he had the chance, and his and my schedule worked out, he'd swing by my house and take me to campus. The cops at the traffic stops would let us right on through. He'd drop me right in front of Welch or wherever. The looks I would get getting out of the car. Probably only happened four or five times, but it was fun.
  17. Since this is the surl, I'm just going to say it: Sounds like heaven. Hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard. In other words, fuck yes you go to all the practices, unless you are legitimately sick.
  18. I remember Charles Barkley telling a story: "I told my mama that I was a Republican. She said 'Charles, Republicans are only for rich people.' I said 'Ma, I'm rich.'"
