  1. They live in southern California now, and have for several months. They had always pulled their punches before so they would not get deported, but not anymore.
  2. Here is a good video about the suspected origin of the virus coming from the Wuhan lab. I have followed him and his friend Serpentenza on youtube for many years their insights into China from the perspective of foreigners living there.
  3. A Senator in the Philippines who tested positive took his wife to the hospital to have their baby. People are still calling for his resignation.
  4. Millions of people in the Far East and Southeast Asia wear masks in public when they are healthy to minimize infection and they all claim it works. Many of these are medical or cloth masks. I am not aware of any study to back up the claim, but the anecdotal evidence is compelling. What is clear is that a mask will stop the inhalation of larger droplets into the nose, mouth and lungs. This will reduce the viral load even if the mask becomes contaminated and spread to mucous tissue occurs. The reduction in initial viral load can prevent infection if it is below the threshold for the virus to take hold, or minimize the severity of illness. I don't buy the lie that wearing a mask does not benefit healthy persons.
  5. That is not new. Li Wenliang was an ophthalmologist, and knew this.
  6. The fact is that we must develop a strategic mitigation plan to take us up through the point when a vaccine can be deployed. That plan must allow for low level spread. Several Far East Asian countries are already showing that mandatory mask usage coupled with reasonable self-isolation measures can slow the spread enough to not overwhelm their medical systems. The usage of masks also limits the initial viral load being received which is expected to lead to fewer bad outcomes. Since over half of us will probably get infected, and the herd immunity is a good thing, the goal among young healthy people should be to limit that initial viral load, rather than taking extreme measures to avoid infection. After the initial spread is halted we need to resume work, using masks and distancing to limit the spread. Large gatherings and eating and drinking in public should be avoided and at risk populations should remain more isolated as much as possible. The second wave may end up fairly flat or we may have to go through a number of saw-tooth-like peaks where the virus spreads and stricter quarantine measures are applied to stop it. The experience in the Far East tells us that keeping it fairly flat should be possible. The first known infection in Wuhan (not detection) occurred between 10 and 11 weeks before the quarantine. So that gives us a window that masks, isolation, and quarantine measures must be deployed well before the 10 week mark for infections in any large community in order to avoid higher mortality rates. Smaller communities must act sooner. This varies for every state and major city in the US, but the clock is ticking on the ones who are not taking enough action. Masks should already be mandatory in public and in work environments where people share an open space or HVAC system.
  7. The Philippines is up to 2084 cases and 88 deaths as they keep catching up on the testing backlog. But the overall testing is highly inadequate as 10s of thousands are being monitored but have not been tested. I still know of only 4 known cases in local hospitals, pit there are dozens of suspected cases of varying severity. Someone with half a brain in the national government suggested allowing people to go back to work but quarantine at the Barangay level. Barangays are subdivisions of cities that are further divided into neighborhoods and each has it's own government. Angeles City for example has 20 plus Barangays. While I normally think they are unnecessarily redundant and overly bureaucratic, it is not a bad way to set boundaries in this situation.
  8. The evidence so far suggests that if it is a desperate situation, such as intubation is required, it is already too late for chloroquine to be effective. That apparent fact certainly leads to the mixed results we see. And, given it appears that over 80% of cases recover on their own with mild or no symptoms, chloroquine may have no effect on those patients. Blind trials need to conducted with early stage patients to know for sure.
  9. There are ACE2 receptors in the testes, so I think my girlfriend's question is valid. The Peak Prosperity guy even wondered if a bad Wuhan virus case could cause sterility.
  10. I asked about the pussy-oral route many pages back and have not seen an answer. My girlfriend wants to know if there is virus in "diquid."
  11. Since EGCG and quercetin are also zinc ionophores I make sure they are in my diet in case the action mechanisms are similar to chloroquine. I drink green tea in the morning, take a zinc supplement later and an EGCG capsule with lunch. EGCG chelates zinc so they should not be taken together. I do not have a supply of quercetin capsules so I eat lots of red onion. There are other zinc ionophores that have been studied in cancer trials but may have higher incidences of retinal neuropathy than chloroquine. Clioquinol is one and ethambutol is another. Disulfiram which is sold as antabuse to make people stop drinking is another. Those three should not be taken without a prescription from you doctor. I am curious if they may work. I personally don't want to take anything that might interfere with my drinking as long as I am not sick.
  12. Based on Wuhan having 1000 more bodies that usual in late January and early February likely continuing to the end of February I had already estimated there were 30,000 to 45,000 Wuhan virus deaths in Wuhan out of the 6 million people who remained their under quarantine. The urn count backs that up. Since the New York metro area has over 20 million people there could be 100,000 Wuhan virus deaths there in the next 6 weeks. I hope I am wrong, but I can't think of any reason the New York numbers would be vastly lower than the Wuhan numbers. Fewer people may live together in New York minimizing the spread, but the New York population is older.
  13. 5 million left Wuhan before the quarantine so there were around 6 million in the city. When NDT ran the numbers based on the bodies being picked up they said something like 157 people die there on average. The number is probably low because the population in cities tends to be younger. The US has more old people too by a factor of 2 for over 80.
  14. It is funnier when read from a foreign perspective where the word napkin only refers to a feminine hygiene product.
  15. Or when 65 year old grandmas are pulled off the vent and left to die so a 35 year old can have it.
  16. The Philippines is up to 1075 cases and 68 deaths. Many positive tests are still coming back after someone dies as they only spend the last few days in the hospital. Most of the dead are in their 70s or 80s. One hospital here just lost their license and was placed under quarantine when they recieved patients from Manila and failed to report they had covid cases to the local government. Someone must have bribed the cops to pass the checkpoints. The cops here are as useless as they are corrupt. The good news for me is they decided not to close grocery stores or stop food takeout or delivery. The local mayors are calling it fake news now after the governor and national government said they weren't supposed to do that. I guess someone did the math and realized there would be riots if people could not get food. The pawn shops are very busy as people with money send it to those who don't. The lines are so long though that I don't want to risk it to send money to a couple of my friends who I would like to help. One friend of mine climbed a jackfruit tree to get fruit to feed her family. I saw some kids harvesting mangos from a nearby tree a few days ago. Normally most people don't bother with the fruit that is high in the trees, as they have enough money to buy it and let someone poorer get the fruit.
  17. That happened in the case of the first known death outside China of a man from Wuhan visiting the Philippines who had the flu, strep, and Covid. Although interestingly, the woman traveling with him only tested positive for Covid. She probably had recovered from the flu and strep prior to being quarantined when her boyfriend went to the hospital.
  18. When I woke up 7 hours ago there were reports of riots in Wuhan, but now it seems like there is a media blackout. I found this link. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/11274221/coronavirus-riots-wuhan-china/
  19. Or the percentage of confirmed versus actual cases in decreasing as it must since the actual spread increases exponentially while testing can only increase linearly.
  20. My BIL who teaches nursing says The Villages has the highest STD rates in the state, so yes, no surprise.
  21. There were around 20 different strands detected in the US lady month thought to be from different initial people. They are likely s lot more clusters than that by now.
  22. Apologies if already posted. http://Zhao, J. et al. Relationship between the ABO Blood Group and the COVID-19 Susceptibility. medRxiv (2020) doi:10.1101/2020.03.11.20031096. https://figshare.com/articles/How_blood_group_O_could_be_protected_from_Coronavirus_Covid-19_infections/12019035
  23. They are saying there is a full lockdown in Angeles with nobody going out at all stores closing. Food and water will be delivered. But the city next to me says they only have enough food for people to eat once a day between now and April 12, the date the lockdown will be lifted or extended. I will try one more shopping trip.
  24. The Philippines is up to 707 cases and 45 deaths with 9 deaths being doctors and two well known actors. Those ratios do not make sense, so I suspect there are many undiagnosed virus deaths. There are also two senators and an ex senator infected, so there is an uproar over VIPs and their families getting special access to testing as there have still been fewer than 2000 total tests. There is now one confirmed case in Angeles and two in Clark, all in hospitals. So it is now known to be in my neighborhood. They are still bringing Filipinos into Clark airport from other countries and have been letting them stay in Angeles. Some are staying at hotels a couple blocks from me. The restaurants that were doing takeout are closing, so I am staying home more, which is probably best.
