Maybe stupid question: So when they called you the first time, did it come up as the number or as your contact for your credit union in your phone?

It came up as "CITY NAME" where the main branch is located, and then the number for my credit union (I have an iphone if that matters as far as what that looks like). I do not have my credit union number saved as a contact, but I've been a member since the late 80s/early 90s and I know their main phone number.

I got a call from scammers. I guess they had spoofed the number from my CU, the same number I've been calling for 35+ years, I know it by heart. They had an indian accent, but don't 90% of these call center people these days? They tried texting me codes and shit but they wouldn't go through. I got suspicious and hung up. Called my CU, got the usual Okie accented chick and was informed that I had been duped. At least they hadn't been able to access my account.

What ruined it for them was that their accent was so fucking thick, I could hardly make out what he was saying. If they had used an AI voice thing, I def could've been fucked.

    They fucking called back!

I'm at work this morning and my cell phone rings. I look and see that it's the number for my credit union and the correct city. But I'm skeptical due to the prior bullshit. I answer and the thick indian accent tells me he's from my CU's fraud department. I give him the Ron Burgandy "I don't believe you" and he immediately says "FUCK YOU, fuck your mother!". I lose it and say loudly "FUCK YOU, motherfucker piece of shit" and some extra insults on top. To my surprise, he didn't hang up, maybe he was shocked. I hung up and I hear my boss from his office "Uhh, that wasn't a client call, was it?". But it wasn't over.

They called back this evening but didn't spoof the number. It was from Yonkers, NY, alledgedly. Same script, CU fraud, blah blah. I just unleashed swears and slurs and hung up before he could respond. Fuck these scamming fucks.

Back in the day I had a friend in the gym business who gave me one of their treadmills that was getting replaced with a newer model. I didn't want it but my wife insisted, "Oh, I'm going to use it every day, I promise." In our prior house, there was this narrow as hell stairway that led up to a small room that had been converted from the attic. That was really the only place for it. That sumbitch was so heavy it took 4 adult males to haul it up there. She didn't use it once. Not fucking once. Yeah... fuck treadmills.

Early in our marriage, she got a "Gazelle" machine, which was fucking stupid. Then she kicked it up a notch to an elliptical, which she actually did use from time to time but not enough to justify the purchase. After it sat for years with clothes hanging on it, we sold it and I thought the game was finally over. But no, some fucker on FB just had to sell this thing. She has already talked about one of those little walking treadmills but I have vetoed her idea.

  4. TV show seasons being so spread out is stupid. I got friends asking if I'm up to date on Stranger Things, it's been 3 fucking years! I barely remember WTF was happening when it stopped. The desire to finish it just isn't there. Maybe I'll give a shit about it again one day.

This is great news.  Now we just need to get you two out of Oklahoma.

It's never gonna happen. I'm stuck here for all eternity, because she already told me that she's gonna bury my ass here.

    Hello darkness, my old friend

  6. Since they're both dead, that pretty much rules out a medical emergency, like heart attack. So that leaves carbon monoxide poisoning, murder-suicide, or double murder. And yeah, I've seen the rumors about their son doing it. I guess he's had a lot of problems in his life.

  7. If a game is being broadcast on an OTA channel, why the fuck to I have to have a cable subscription in order to watch the stream online??? They still show the fucking commercials in the stream. They still plaster ads all over their page. GTFOH with that shit.

  8. Someone hung a 5 foot tall wreath in the hallway at my office. Whenever I leave to go to the bathroom or something, I see this thing in the corner of my eye and it looks like there's a guy, leaning against the wall like some 50's hoodlum. There's not a lot of traffic in this hallway, so it catches me off guard. Like, how did this MF get in? And then I realize it's that fucking wreath.

When my wife went through breast cancer, I will never forget when the surgeon came out and told me the lymph nodes were clear.  I had been pretty rock steady throughout neoadjuvant chemotherapy and all that entails as a supportive spouse, but when I got that news, I felt like I needed to be mopped off the floor.  Because that really is the big question.

Just a bit of advice, as part of the reconstruction process, she'll have drains.  They tell you in the hospital to keep them clean, etc.  But in the US, at least 10 years ago, they tend to leave the drains in for a while (and you get sent home with them).  What they should tell you is you need to keep a sterile field around those things at all times.  Reconstruction was a lengthy process with multiple infections, but we eventually got it done.

Working in your favor is that she didn't opt for immediate reconstruction, i.e., spacers immediately following the mastectomy, and she hadn't undergone chemo prior to surgery, which means her immune system is in much better shape than my wife's was.  But don't sleep on those drains.  You cannot have enough rubbing alcohol in residence based on our experience.  Stock up.  And all the best to you guys.

Oh, the drains. Yeah, she had them after the mastectomy. Yes, I drained them every time she needed it, logged the amount of fluid I took out from each side, and I made sure to swab the fuck out of them with alcohol wipes. She hates the damn things. She got them out on Tuesday but the reconstruction is next Tuesday, so she'll only get a week's worth of relief. She said the drains have been the worst part of this whole thing, by far.

  10. My kids are grown and out of the house, one in another state. Both have kids of their own. My sister has been making some comments about how it isn't fair that they don't get to see my grandkids, and how my dad isn't doing well, blah blah. My sister's kids are losers and don't have (and will never have) kids of their own, which means my grandchildren are the closest she's ever going to get. I have told her and my dad that I can't control where my kids are on Christmas or thanksgiving or whatever holiday. We either have to have multiple get togethers or go without. Nobody wins and I have to hear about it.
