  1. We have an Aussie punter as the MVP - brings back memories.
  2. Can almost guarantee it's something small. At a 1-2, you're damn good at repeating the same thing over and over but I'm sure like all of us, your tendencies are drifting slowly. Something has drifted just into shanksville and since you're so good at repetition, you're stuck on the shanks. When I get too toe-y or heely, I just adjust how close I'm standing to the ball. It helps in two ways - physically moves the club to adjust for the miss and allows you more room to come from the inside (if you're heel-y) or "outside" (if you're toe-y).
  3. Was that a question for me? If so, mix of clear and knotty alder, mostly clear.
  4. Latest furniture build - a record console. Alder finished with Rubio Monocoat Midnight Sky and brass accents. Dog butt pic for scale (also a previous dining room project in the background).
  5. It's so frustrating. You mess up epically once or twice and then you just feel like you have to hit the reset button. But the truth is a half a degree here or there and that's the only difference between a complete shit show and some real decent golf. Literally. A half of a degree. I bought a simulator (a good one that tracks, plots, and gives you all the stats) and that's what it took for me to take it easy on myself and stop panicking - my good swings vs my "oh my god the world is ending" swings was so minute. Take a gummy. Chill.
  6. You get these stair steps in ability in golf in all facets of the game - tee, approach, short game, putting. And then it goes away for a week, you panic, over correct, and you're back to square one. Welcome to your new hell. Eventually, you develop a core feeling that you can always fall back on. That helps to reduce those over corrections and you start to see real progress and consistency. That was the big hurdle to get me from 12-15 to 5-7.
  7. Ghislaine opinion on "inappropriate" and "unconsenual" is a little different than the rest of ours.
  8. Help me out here... I have 5 independent normal distributions X1 thru X5 with differing means and stddev. I'd like to compute the probability that a random variable from X1 is greater than a random variable picked from X2 thru X5. Here's how far I've gotten. I basically have to figure out the P(X1 > X2) and P(X1 > X3) and P(X1 > X4) and P(X1 > X5). I can compute those independently fairly easily. P(X1 > X2) is the CDF of a normal at 0 with mean equal to the difference of means and stddev equal to the square of the sum of the squares of the stddevs. Rinse and repeat for the other 3 probabilities. So I have those 4 probabilities that X1 beats the other 4 but then I'm stuck. The distributions are no longer independent (they all depend on X1) so I can't just multiply the probabilities together. What's the next step? My initial thought was just multiply them together and scale them so the sum of the probabilities equals one and that's a "good enough" answer but if I can get this exactly right, that would be super.
  9. 60 and 50 for me - depending on how much height and how much spin I need. Same chipping motion for both. My only swing thought for chipping these days is "accelerate".
  10. 3-5i are my get out of jail clubs beyond just being the right stick for certain stock yardages. They are easier to force a hook or a slice with and easy to keep low out of the trees vs a 6 or 7. Now if the question is do I go 3-5h instead of 3-5i, that's a more interesting question imo. But for me, I'd rather drop my woods than my 3-5i. Regarding your equipment - it's not the head that you're feeling a difference in, it's the shaft (har har). Shaft is 90% of the club.
  11. JJ Spaun is our 2nd best player. We're going to get rolled.
  12. Yes, aging affects people. That's not the argument you made. Great catch, they weren't in the same car. How did I miss that? But those cars they were in were plenty fast.
  13. Signed, Nico. And Max. And Vettel. What a dumb hot take.
  14. We have a pretty active annual thread for this: https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/topic/39920-2025-golf-i-dont-think-the-heavy-stuffs-gonna-come-down-for-quite-a-while/page/5/#comment-7230901
  15. You literally posted the same data as JJ except truncated by 2 years to fit your narrative. If there ever was a perfect microcosm of the perils of having all this info at anyone's fingertips, this is it. People are fucking lazy.
  16. Just finished off a week long trip to Scotland - played 6 courses in 4 days, walked all of them. Incredible trip, incredible courses. Golf is so accessible there, it's bonkers. And the courses make anything in the US look like a manufactured joke. It's almost upsetting the difference between the US and Scotland when it comes to golf. Day 1: Cabot Highlands Day 2: Tain + Fortrose and Rosemarkie Day 3: Brora + Royal Dornoch Championship Course Day 4: Cruden Bay (9 hole course + Championship Course) We joined Tain as full members for a whopping 350 GBP for the year (which is ridiculous unto itself and isn't unique to Tain, all these courses have stupid cheap annual membership dues). That got us free rounds at Tain (85 GBP normally), a 30 GBP round at Brora and F&R (100+ GBP normally), 25% off at Royal Dornoch (80 GBP savings), and 50% off at Cabot (160 GBP savings). As the saying goes, pictures don't do it justice. Hard to capture the elevation changes but here you go! Cabot: Tain: Fortrose and Rosemarkie: Brora: Royal Dornoch: Cruden Bay:
  17. Had so much potential for an entertaining race but other than the 2 laps of pit stops and the ensuing reshuffle, that was dreadful.
  18. George has his moments where you can see it. Then he bins it on the final lap. I did put a question mark on his name, in my defense.
  19. Random thought... With the reg changes coming meaning this year's car will be very different to next year's (so less to learn from a competitor, relatively speaking), I think it'd be wildly entertaining to have drivers swap cars and do a few laps. I'm curious what the elite drivers (Lewis, Oscar, Fernando... George?) would do in that Red Bull and also what Max would do in a less pointy car. And then for real shits and giggles, stick them all in the Alpine.
  20. So if inflation has been defeated, does that mean we're going to have deflation? Because.... That doesn't go well. At least that's what the economists tell me. But what do they know.
  21. The Austin public golf scene compared to the other big cities in Texas is embarrassing. All of them except Austin have a good assortment of courses at varying price points with many consistently in good condition. The only courses in Austin you can count on for good conditions (Avery, Falcon head, Wolf dancer, TV, Star.... I think that's it) are, as previously noted, egregiously expensive. The other courses in Austin all vary wildly as far as playing conditions and just general course quality. Not to mention the round lengths for the cheaper courses are frustratingly long.
  22. I'm honestly not sure who you're talking about.
  23. Is there a flightaware equivalent to track all the bombs in flight with their org, dest, and ETA? I'm getting confused whether Urban is our coach or not.
