Post a pic that makes you lol
I don't have any problem with people standing up. I get irritated when people from the back rows start pushing their way forward in the aisle past people in rows ahead of them. But like CTH just said, maybe they have legitimate reasons to get off the plane quicker. I think I just assume that the rest of the world is filled with assholes. Too much time on Surly I suppose.

I'm sure I will stir up a hornet's nest with this comment, but it's such a bitch move to jump up and start jockeying for an exit as soon as the seatbelt light comes off. Dude, you're in row 24. Wait your turn or pay more to sit further up front. Or if you have explosive diarrhea then tell everyone to get out of the way.

Moving to Honolulu
Windward beaches are generally the best for a relaxing beach day on Oahu, all the way from Bellows to Lanikai. +rep for Aiea Bowl. Also great food at Moku Kitchen, Liliha Bakery (cream puffs), 1938 Indochine (Vietnamese), Highway Inn (Hawaiian), Side Street Inn (Hawaiian), Ginza Bairin Tonkatsu (Japanese pork), Teddy's (burgers), Ted's Bakery (chocolate haupia pie), Lanikai Juice (smoothies), Da Cove Bar (açaí bowls), Phuket Thai (Thai), Diamond Head Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings. Surprisingly the Foodland Farms grocery store at Ala Moana has a ton of legit food to go. Thai, Korean, Japanese, and Chinese are good pretty much all over the island. Any hole in the wall with a half-dozen different ramshackle menus hanging up by the kitchen is gonna be good:

Tell Me About Texas a&m
Can someone post the video of that female sports person blathering about aggy's supposed superiority over Texas? She gets put in her place about 1000 times by the other guys on the show but is still too oblivious to see the truth.

Moving to Honolulu
I moved back to a great place on the mainland several years ago and only miss Honolulu every single day. We still have our place there and I get back as often as I can. Most people that move to HI from the mainland relocate back to the mainland after an average of 7 years. I think it's mostly because they miss things on the mainland you can't get in Hawaii, and because making new friendships and kinships is tough. I've heard all of the tropes that locals are prejudiced against haoles (whites) but that's BS. I've never felt more kinship anywhere else. It's a shock to some mainlanders, but turns out that taking over a sovereign nation for business and military interests doesn't endear you to the local population. So it takes a long time to build trust. Hawaii is not your playground. It's a former nation with its own language, culture, religion, everything. So tread with humility and interest in Hawaiian life and history and you'll be welcomed in time. You just have to embrace Hawaii on its own terms. You want barbecue? Better start liking Korean bbq. You want college football? Better love the Rainbow Warriors or get ready to watch games at 6am. You want culture? You get hula festivals and outrigger canoe competitions. So if you move there, you have to embrace it rather than dwell on the things you don't have there -- otherwise you'll get island fever and start looking for a way back. pm me if you want more info

Anyone interested in Aerial America might like the slow tv phenomenon from Norway. They show hours and hours of footage of stuff happening really slowly -- fishing, knitting, whatever. The best is the 7 hour train ride from Bergen to Oslo -- camera at the front of the engine just records a regular day's journey across southwestern Norway. It's great to have on the second screen as you're working. "I started my workday in Bergen, and I'm ending in Oslo." Yes, I'm uncool.- Bengals RB Joe Mixon has Arrest Warrant
Nice house. You could really beat the shit out of some women there. And then drown them in the pond, if you needed to. Good choice for Mixon.- Post a pic that makes you say "Holy shit."
Crazy amounts of rain on Oahu recently, especially in the pali (mountains and cliffs). Palolo is nestled deep in one of the biggest valleys on the south side of Oahu. That's a crazy video.- Post a pic that makes you say "Holy shit."
Regarding surfing, the biggest surf event in a few years went down last weekend on Oahu. The Eddie Invitational was held at Waimea Bat. They only open it up when waves are going to be big enough during the holding period to give Eddie Aikau (local surf and lifeguard legend) the respect he deserves -- at least 20 foot Hawaiian scale (35+ foot faces). First time in 7 years they held it, more than 40,000 spectators. Invited surfers get the call worldwide and have 48 hours to be on island. Biggest event in the surfing world. "Steep, deep and undaneet!"- Post a pic that makes you say "Holy shit."

If there was any justice in that situation it would've played out like your avatar: "Did you blame the victims, or call into question their motives, in any way?" "Well, yeah, but..." "You're fired."- Post-Beard Game 6: Ok State @ Texas, 8pm, LHN

My absolute favorite part of Surly.- Am I the asshole?
Fence guy -- not the asshole, get the money or the new fence 17 items guy -- definitely the asshole, quit breaking the rules and then playing the victim- Van Halen Appreciation thread
I mentioned upthread that I saw the same tour in Houston at Rice Stadium. As I recall Dokken got a bit rained out which was fine, because they sucked. Metallica came out and destroyed everything. Security was blasting the crowd with hoses and water to keep us all alive during their set. Scorps were great on that particular night and the crowd was super into their set. VH tore it up of course. The midday stadium-wide trash fight was clearly the big winner that day, however.- 2023 WR AD Mitchell *Transfer*
- What's your stance on curbside parking?
- What's your stance on curbside parking?
I don't get this take. There's no one else parked in the curbside spaces. There are plenty of spaces to choose from if someone ordered curbside. In a busy location it's a dick move, but when there's no real demand I don't see why they can't be used. So the argument that the OP's time is more valuable than another customer's is negated -- there is no other customer. Also, the reality is that full curbside parking doesn't inconvenience customers whatsoever. If you order curbside, and all of the curbside spaces are taken when you get there, you just park in a normal space and tell them to come to your space instead. It might inconvenience the worker (who is getting paid to walk your shit to and from the store), but not the customer.- What's your stance on curbside parking?
Surly never disappoints. I was just thinking about the OP's predicament last night when I went to the pet store to get dog food, and was wondering if there would be a thread about it. This site is like the real-time Seinfeld writer's den. It was about half hour before closing, parking lot deserted. I debated about parking in one of the 6 curbside delivery spots until I realized it was idiotic not to park in one of those spaces. I was gone within 4 minutes, and no cars showed up. I think those spaces have outlived their utility as I've never seen them fully utilized at any time of day. Grocery stores and some restaurants are exceptions; curbside delivery spots make sense there.- What's your stance on curbside parking?
Your mom's an old beat up Landcruiser, HEY-OOOOO- Ames delivery driver tried to put UT MBB on blast for only tipping him $58 update: he lied, it was $87
I remember a thread on the old site arguing about what a reasonable tip is for carry out. Derka I'm pretty sure you were giving out good advice on that thread too. It was the most divisive thread this side of Applewhite vs Simms. - You know how you know you’re not cool anymore?
