  1. I think they can and possibly would. Sometimes countries can find their own autonomy post regime change. Most posters here, due to historicals, have completely dismissed the Iranian peoples ability of self determination and self rule. It's myopic and a discredit to the humans living in the country of Iran. They are a proud and historical amazingly strong people. I DO get the historical realities of the ME, but to automatically assume with certainty that the Iranian people are completely incapable of self determination is frankly racist.
  2. I know you can't change. Being a GRU member means no matter what is produced by US politicians it has to be shit on repeatedly and frequently. Putin would be proud of you and your efforts.
  3. I get it. The current admin doesn't dicuss it, fuck them they suck. Current admin does discuss helping, fuck them they suck. Doesn't matter what they do, "FUCK THEM THEY SUCK" Great talk Brisketexan.
  4. There is a lot to unpack in this rather long Reuters Paylink Article I'll put some highlights in spoilers below but broad take aways with as little bias as possible 1) Iran saber rattling and declaring no surrender 2) Russia getting in the saber rattling game. 3) Iran making veiled threats to OG facilities and shipping which won't help their cause with US or ME OG powers. 4) Internal concerns in Iran about tactical errors due to leadership deaths. 5) Iranian people fleeing cities 6) Iran going full dictatorship and banning public filming. Limiting purchases etc Iran's Khamenei rejects Trump's call for surrender as thousands flee Tehran -
  5. Appears some sort of quid pro quo between Ukraine and the US is being worked out. Not surprisingly it looks like "defense projects" and "reconstruction" for "mineral rights". Also unsurprisingly, the details and specifics are very vague but at this point at least its a positive direction so... Ukraine says it held talks with US on supporting defence projects under joint fund Reuters Paylink
  6. This assumes everyone wants the Iranian regime to stay in power. They don't. And Trumps comment was well covered. Nobody rational disagreed. It doesn't have to be rehashed multiple times on every page of the thread.
  7. I think the current Iranian regime was already on a bit shaky ground prior to Israeli attacks. With who has been killed in thr regime and their general inability to respond it makes them look even weaker. It's not just Israel that wants them out. Given all that, absolute surrender of their big stick would further that perception by everyone, including internal Iranian interests. That's all to say, I dont think Iranian leadership CAN offer up something that will appease US leadership to any degree. Maybe something for the rest of G7.. but.. Further, I don't think they would even if things weren't so bleak. There also isnt enough time even of they could. Finally, I don't think it would stop US leadership if they could and did. As far as hating one another here, I try my very best to keep it to discussion without diving into the typical rhetoric of US political bullshit. I don't engage in shit talking. It's not productive and diminishes the quality of this thread. I think there is some really good conversation going on, and I'm mostly ignoring the rest. I also admit outside the news I post, my takes are guesses and opinions and back my reasoning. However, and importantly, I also own my reasoning might be incorrect and my knowledge isn't complete. Finally, that I'm always open to discussion, with logic and data, not political shit flinging, about why my takes might be or are incorrect.
  8. I can agree with this. I'd add "cute" or "sweet", but while I'm really loving it, I openly admit its not great.
  9. @bolverk Trump isn't going to give it that much time by design, and frankly the blow back from Iran, down the road, isn't something Israel will risk either. I don't think Bibi can nor does he want to, and I know Trump would proceed out of spite of anything the G7 produced if it did happen in time, which it won't, imo.
  10. I promise, that same aspect of Santiago was making me really twitchy and is why I almost gave up at 4. Try 5.
  11. I binged Stick through episode 5. Preamble - I'll watch anything with Maron in it and have liked everything he's been in, or at least loved him in it. I also like Owen Wilson. Not love, but been a fan since Bottle Rocket. If you dislike either, this series will be a struggle. So I, shockingly, love the chemistry between Maron and Wilson. Through the first 3 episodes its the only thing that kept me watching as I thought it was otherwise pretty cliche and predictable. Then in Episode 4 it really found its legs. A lot more is revealed and the story started to pull me in. I'm loving the plot, writing, cast and the chemistry. I'm pretty suprised I like it as much as I do. And Raylan Givens has yet to appear.... and he's a big part of why I turned it on it the first place. So, it's more serious than I anticipated and it gets way better after the 3rd episode. Definitely worth watching, imo. But this is Surly, and it's a series, so I certain there will be disagreement.
  12. I just don't think ground troops are going in, but again that might just be me wish casting. I'm damn near certain bombers and long range missiles will be in play.
  13. I won't speak to your other points as there is certainly potential validity. I am purely addressing the underlined, specifically the bold. Forgoing the why, Bibi's plan relative to Iran has been clearly short term from the start. 2 weeks. Bibi is well aware that the war with Iran is destabilizing for the region and in particular the OG markets. While the rest of the OG and ME are willing to step back, it won't be for long and Bibi knows it. Strike while the iron is hot. There is clear reasoning why, from onset, Bibi has set the time line for this event. He knows OG money isn't letting this go on long. Whatever happens will happen quickly. Primarily because of OG money/influence but also because the US leadership isn't known to be long term planners either. On top of of all that, the longer the play the more likely dirty nukes, outside extremist and broadly speaking threats to western countries increase. You said it in your last sentence, neither are capable of thinking about tomorrow. OG is... they want it done quick, Bibi has said 2 weeks, Trump will, like he does everything, move quickly because he has the attention span of gnat, and we are having a different discussion next week.
  14. It's laughable, at this point, that anyone thinks negotiations are even a remote possibility. I suspect big action is over by Friday, maybe before.
  15. Iowa it shit destination, middling program and shit fans. Fuck New Jersey. Shit location. I lived in Chicago for over 10 years, NW is terrible at football. There is no upside, hotels will be stupid expensive but you can get good food. I promise that place has gotten super sketchy down towards the loop. Have you been to Lincoln? Super fun tailgating under the overpass. Sure, I wouldn't mind beating them again, but they're also a nobody these days. I'm down for Washington. I was in Pasadena last time we played UCLA there so absolutely in for that one. Never been to Oregon, I'd put that as number 1. USC... of course. So I think we've found some common ground and variations on opinions. Shocking thing to occur on Surly.
  16. In broad strokes, OU's coaching staff has for the past 20+ years consistently had their players better prepared in the mental game aspects than Texas'. I won't even beat the horse skeleton that is Mack Brown. There is a huge mental aspect to the game and last year Quinn in particular came out shakey, but he wasn't alone. It was improved over 23 and I hope there is another step forward. It probably belongs in the Arch thread but my instincts tell me his competitor spirit flies in this game and I think it helps lead the team mindset. All that psychobabble to say, OUsux and I hope we curb stomp them again this year.
  17. The only reason I wasn't suggesting Michigan was BECAUSE we just played them. I've said I'd rather go to Wisconsin. We were discussing other options in the B1G. Based on my personal experience MSU is the second best option since Michigan is likely not an option. Why is this so hard to understand?
  18. Agreed other than the widely reported and confirmed managerial check box call Bibi made prior to launching the attacks this has been all Israel's plan from the get go.
  19. Fixed and Co-signed! But... MSU isn't in Wisconsin for the record.
  20. Well, in fairness, I actually suspect he may be spot on, just not in the way he thinks/hopes. If the correct pieces are in place and they ALL appear to be moving in that direction, a very quick end to escalating tensions may be the best tactical move. At least, that's what my under informed mind believes. Happy to learn why longer term engagement is a better option if I'm off in my assumptions.
  21. People forget how insufferable CU fans are and what bitches they were as a conference member. Boulder is a nice town, but there is no upside and I don't have interest in dealing with Buffs.
  22. Based on my fairly wide range of experience, the tailgate scene at MSU is legit, second only to Wisky. Flights to DTW are easy in and out with a not a bad drive. Heading north or west in Michigan at the right time of year for the coast makes for a nice extended weekend. Other than being an ag school and its abuse history which is substantial, its a pretty solid and fun trip. Which is to say, nothing at all like aggie.
  23. I personally much prefer spending time in Bloomington over West Lafayette. Bloomington has far better restaurant and hotel options. I can't speak to tailgates at IU but West Lafayette is about like you'd expect which is pretty hum ho. Not bad just very underwhelming.
  24. No one will claim you're inconsistent on your takes and concerns about the current US administration.
  25. It has paid long term dividends to be "open minded" regarding my sexual partner preference throughout my "career" I for one support our new cockroach overlords! Viva la Blattodea!
