  1. Big merger news today for some Houston and Denver folks: Funny enough, I ran into some SM guys at a golf thing earlier today and they had just learned of it at the same time as everyone else, via press release.
  2. Third straight year that I didn't fire a shot on Opening Weekend, but still enjoyed hanging out at the lease. Saw a young 7-point Friday evening while hoping to shoot a pig, and that ended up being the only animal I saw all weekend. One buddy shot a pig Saturday night, but otherwise, we got skunked. Got plans on Saturday, but thinking about taking Monday off and running up on Sunday morning for a quick 24-hour trip. Otherwise, might not get to make it out again until the weekend before Thanksgiving.
  3. Almost time!
  4. This big fella showed up again right at 6 pm yesterday and nibbled on corn for a good 20 minutes. I hope he's dumb enough to do so again this weekend. Just a little over 60 hours out from legal shooting time on Opening Day. Starting to get antsy to hit the road for the lease after lunchtime Friday. Likely my favorite weekend of the entire year, even if I come home empty-handed.
  5. Feels incredible temp-wise, but damn is it windy today. Got literally pushed forward several steps by a ~40 mph gust walking outside of my office to go grab lunch earlier. Really looking forward to tomorrow and Friday, when it's both cool AND calm. Planning to light up the fire pit and enjoy a couple heavier beers after work tomorrow evening.
  6. Such an ass-backwards misunderstanding of LOTR . Elon probably thinks Moby Dick is about how to hunt whales, Lord of the Flies is an island survival guide for pre-teens...etc.
  7. Famous horror movie scenes done in the style of Peanuts:
  8. About 2pm this afternoon is the warmest it will be, by at least 7 degrees, at any point in the next 7 days.
  9. Blastfurnace gonna make a final push at lunchtime tomorrow before retreating back to Hell to begin plotting next year's reign of terror. Definitely some "warm" days ahead next week after this front passes, but looks like we're all but done with evenings that don't get below 70. I can tolerate a November day that hits the low 80's a lot easier when it drops to the low 60's after sunset and the AC can finally catch a breather.
  10. 30 degree temp drop between 3 pm TUE (86) and 7 am WED (56).
  11. For the first time in a while, weather forecast for Opening Weekend out at my lease looks awesome. Last year it was really nice on Friday evening and then on opening morning it was so warm and foggy I couldn't see the feeder. Feel like work this week is really gonna drag as I sit there waiting to hit the road Friday afternoon. bartscottcantwait.gif
  12. Much-needed soaking yesterday, and it looks like this afternoon should be pretty nice once clouds clear and it starts to dry out. Currently about 60 hours out from cold front arrival late Tuesday night. Gonna feel like a different season on Wednesday compared to Tuesday. One nice thing about this front is it looks more like a harbinger of larger pattern shift than a flash-in-the-pan that lasts 48 hours and then reverts right back to the same ol' shit.
  13. Mystery buck at my stand last night. Can't see horns for shit but a good size body.
  14. I've noticed construction has picked up on this place the last few weeks. There are some concept photos on their OpenTable site. https://www.opentable.com/r/lazy-lane-houston?fbclid=IwY2xjawNooapleHRuA2FlbQIxMQABHndRKyGu9pSdWaWgVdUwXQN5nHB3U66ellM6m2x7b4RKZheqEUh_dFklncKI_aem_wB2jmK3J7G3-8nVg5dQqyw Looks like it will be relatively upscale. Carbonara, pork chops, tenderloin, old fashioneds....etc.
  15. ^^^ I'm giving serious thought to sitting outside sometime around 2 AM Wednesday just to feel the front finally rolling in. The last time I experienced a temperature below 60 was on a trip to Colorado back in late July. Locally, it was back in the early part of April. This is about as late as it ever gets in the year before the first legit front arrives. Well overdue.
  16. Still on track for Fall to finally start on Wednesday.
  17. If he's not careful, his support among ranchers and farmers may eventually plummet from +60 all the way down to +58.
  18. Psycroptic still bringing it. New single out a few months ago that I just heard earlier today. I don't really know any other metal guitarists that write riffs like Joe Haley. You can almost always tell a song is by Psycroptic in the first 2 seconds.
  19. Only fitting, as I'm both in charge of producing all weather forecasts in TX and run the computer models on which they're based.
