  1. Yeah, this is what I was getting at. I've developed major envy for parts of the country that have distinct, defined seasons. I'm not even just talking about up north or in the mountain states. It starts getting pretty nice this time of year in places like Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville.....etc. Pretty much anywhere north of Dallas.
  2. Probably a smarter business model for the neighborhood than just being a traditional lunchtime BBQ spot.
  3. I'm a lot more tolerant of Summer when it's July and August. Less so in the middle of September.
  4. Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle dominated the box office this weekend. $70M in US and Canada, over $400M international so far. I'll wait a few months until its available to stream, but that's pretty cool to see.
  5. Had to step outside for a second before going to bed last night. 81 degrees with a feels like of 87 at 11 pm. This shit getting tedious. Hope everyone enjoyed that nice 60-hour stretch from last Sunday morning until Tuesday night. Looks like it'll be a while 'til we get another dose.
  6. Altuve absolutely pissed on that one. Team has some fire under their ass tonight.
  7. Don't think this has been posted yet.. Cole's former teammates at Corpus watching his first AB. How can you not love baseball?
  8. Most fun I've had watching a game in a while, but this is the shit that frustrates me the last 2 months. We'll do this tonight, but either get 2 singles and 0 runs tomorrow, or lose 3-2 after getting 10 hits and taking 4 walks but going 2-13 with RISP.
  9. CPI comes in a little warm while jobless claims tick up. Dual mandate pressures weighing on the Fed.
  10. BBQ joint coming to the old Petrol Station? "Heights BBQ" is a pop-up run by the guy who used to be the pitmaster at Pipers BBQ on Shepherd. In the comments on a Facebook post about this, the guy confirmed that it will not be called "Heights BBQ" and is not affiliated with the Pipers/Preslee's group.
  11. A big ridge of high pressure will soon settle in over Texas. Every day from tomorrow through next Sunday will basically be a repeat of the day before. Low to mid 90's, near-zero chance of rain.
  12. Probably ate 100+ meals at the PIccadilly inside Parkdale Mall in Beaumont growing up. There's still one in Denham Springs not far from my in-laws house. One of these days the wife and I will have to stop in during a visit. I'm sure the nostalgia will be better than the actual food.
  13. Yes, and sometimes it's touching 90 and swampy on Halloween. That's why averages exist.
  14. Uhh, late November, maybe. First time visiting Texas? To be more precise, the average high stays below 70 from 11/25 thru 2/23 (data for Houston).
  15. Today and tomorrow look glorious. High 80's and 60's with low humidity. Enjoy these next 48 hours as much as possible before it warms back up a bit. Extended forecast is basically copy/paste starting Wednesday through the following weekend. High's in mid-90's, lows in low 70's, very little chance of rain.
  16. This team just ain't it. The roster has been absolutely decimated by injuries. The pitching staff is currently bearing the brunt of it, but they're not getting much help from a finally-almost-healthy lineup that was below even 60% strength for the vast majority of the season. I'm honestly expecting to wake up tomorrow to hear that 1 or 2 of the guys that pitched tonight has elbow or shoulder discomfort. More losses than wins since 7/1 and very few of the wins have come easy. Our largest margin of victory in our past 30 games is 6 runs (while losing by double digits several times). We only have a positive 10 run differential after tonight. We've played and looked like a slightly below .500 team since the ASB.
  17. Lol, 4 straight balls. Great start Lance!
  18. The neighborhood now has its first Irish Pub (that I'm aware of.) Pimlico opens their 2nd location today at the old Barking Pig on Ella, catty corner from Tony's. I'll have to pop in on a cool, drizzly day sometime later this year.
  19. Busy dove hunt out in Sealy yesterday afternoon. Tons of birds, but they were all just passing over our field with no intent to land anywhere nearby, so flying high and fast. Our group of 5 fired easily 250+ shots and ended up with 38 in the truck (plus another 10 or so lost in the brush or fell in the field behind us). I lost count of how many birds we knocked feathers off of but not enough to down. I'd feel worse about my shooting, but my buddy, who is a competitive skeet shooter and the best dove shot I've ever hunted with, was roughly 12/50.
  20. It appears we'll settle into a consistently steady pattern of warm, dry, sunny days next week. Daytime highs in the mid-90's, but pleasant mornings and evenings with low humidity. It ain't gonna feel like Fall, but it ain't blastfurnace.
  21. According to a post on HAIF this morning, Target is going to be the anchor tenant for the former Sears property on N Shepherd. Permits filed recently indicate an April 2026 construction start date. I'm sure people will be bummed b/c they were hoping for a Costco or HEB. There were originally plans for a Target with several floors of apartments on top to go in where they've cleared out most of that block between 26th and 27th, but that was going to require a weird building design to wrap around the doggy daycare. Looks like they called an audible when the Sears property came available.
  22. The low humidity this morning made for a very pleasant walk with the dogs. Unfortunately, that same low humidity will allow for extremely efficient heating this afternoon and it's going to be damn near 100 at 4 pm, just in time for me to go stand out in a dove field. The duality of early September weather in Texas.
  23. Latest projections with just 3 weeks remaining. Baseball Reference: HOU 87-75, 87% chance to make playoffs, 70% chance to win division SEA 85-77, 56% chance to make playoffs, 18% chance to win division TEX 84-78, 35% chance to make playoffs, 12% to win division Fangraphs: HOU 89-73, 94% chance to make playoffs, 77% chance to win division SEA 86-76, 77% chance to make playoffs, 21% chance to win division TEX 82-80, 12% chance to make playoffs, 2% chance to win division
  24. W over the Yankees while M's and Rangers both lose = a perfect night.
  25. I had a very similar situation, and the only time I've ever been close to thinking about shooting someone. Woke up middle of the night about 4 years ago to dogs barking up a storm. Head downstairs and opened one of the curtains to see what they're barking at (usually a stray dog or the neighbor's cat in the front yard) and there's a guy standing on my front porch, literally an inch or two in front of the window. Scared the shit out of me. Dude starts knocking on the window "hey, let me in, let me in." I ran back to the bedroom, grabbed my gun and came back down. Told him to get the fuck out of there through the window, but he seemed to be totally out of it and wasn't hearing/responding. I could tell pretty quick this was either mental health crisis or he was black out drunk/on a bad trip. Called neighborhood constables and waited in the dining room, gun in hand, watching him through the window. They showed up within a few minutes and threw the guy in cuffs and sat him down in their cruiser. Turns it out was a young guy with schizophrenia. Snuck out from his sister's house a few blocks away and was wandering the streets, thought my house was a church that would take him in. The sister showed up a few minutes later and they released him into her custody after I said I didn't want to press charges (he hadn't damaged anything or tried to force his way in). Extremely relieved it worked out that way. If I had forgotten to lock the door or he had started trying to kick down the door or climb the driveway gate or something, I don't like to think about how I would have been forced to react.
