  1. Been dark as shit and thundering outside my office in central Houston for the last 2 hours. Not a single drop appears to have actually fallen though. Looks like the majority of it passed to the west of town. Nice tease.
  2. Yeah. That sucked. It was really nice in Houston almost all of April, with temps rarely going above 80 (low of 55 on April 19!). Started routinely hitting the 90's by the first weekend of May. Just skipped straight from "late spring" to "middle of fucking summer" over the course of a week. We're still in June and it has already been hot as shit for close to 8 weeks with another ~13 to go (based on historical trends of when we get out first overnight low below 70).
  3. What a shitty loss. Worst so far through 70 games. Pressly has some weird form of the yips where he seems to have to allow the tying run to come to bat. With a 2 or 3 run lead, he's almost certain to allow the leadoff batter to reach. It usually ends up barely working out for us, but the goddamn Yankees already have 20+ come-from-behind wins. They ain't the team to pull that shit on. Through 24 outs, I was impressed as hell with the way we were playing. Looked like a team on a fucking mission. On par with the 9th inning debacle is us outhitting them 11-2 though 8 1/2 but not scoring any runs except on the 2 dingers. 6-9 spots in the order were 1-15 with the only hit coming with no one on base (Yuli leadoff double, never moved past 2nd).
  4. Next 96 hours or so gonna suuuck. Houston-area forecasts are showing solid chances of rain Monday-Thursday with temps held down to the low 90's. Can't wait for that rug to get pulled.
  5. PS5 Bundle currently available on Antonline for like $725. Been up for a few hours now. PS5 Disc Edition Horizon Forbidden West MLB The Show '22 2 controllers Charging Dock https://www.antonline.com/Sony/Playstation_5
  6. 18 above .500 for the first time this season. Best way to start a successful 9-game stretch is to go 2-0.
  7. Heights Bier Garten has the best drinking happy hour in town, IMO, and there's usually some decent scenery. $3 pints on certain beers from 3 to 6, Monday-Friday and 11-6 on the weekends. Usually a good 20 or so options are eligible. The same owners are opening Bayou Heights Bier Garten at Washington and Yale later this summer, which will be walking distance from my office. Our work happy hour crew is really hoping they feature the same deal.
  8. I come across shit on LinkedIn everyday that just reminds me of how ass-backwards American corporate culture is. People constantly making it abundantly obvious that they can barely conceal their glee at the thought of going back to having work be as shitty as possible. Typical comment on some article about Elon Musk or some other knob-head CEO bitching about lazy employees working from home: "Listen up whiners, you may have enjoyed the last 2 years of having it easy, but your entitled asses are about to learn. Now that the government money hose is shutting off, companies won't be bending over backwards for you any more. And if you don't like it, suck it up and start your own companies, snowflakes!"
  9. Don't know if this got posted yesterday, but the Catcher/1B that came over along with Maton got promoted to AAA yesterday after putting up a hefty slash line in Corpus. Has actually played more games at 1B than C so far this year.
  10. Weird numbers. He's been dogshit against Seattle and serviceable to good against everyone else: 3 starts vs. M's: 13 IP, 10.38 ERA 10 starts vs. Rest: 54.1 IP, 3.38 ERA
  11. Wife and I go visit friends in Colorado for a week every summer, usually in late August or September. Typically get on a return flight that leaves around sunup when it's in the high 40's. One of the most soul-crushing experiences is landing back at IAH wearing jeans and a fleece and getting blasted in the face with 98 degrees getting off the plane.
  12. In my wife's case it was most likely "find someone with her experience and skills but 10 years younger and half the expected salary."
  13. Having watched my wife get ghosted about 7-8 times during a 6-month job search last year, I could give jack shit all about companies whining about the shoe being on the other foot. I'm not talking basic crap like no response to an application. I'm talking, phone screen with HR, initial zoom interview with someone in the department, follow up in-person interview with the boss and then "We need to fill this position ASAP. We've got 2 more candidates we're interviewing this week, but will let you know something by COB Friday." Absolutely nothing thereafter, no calls, no emails. Sometimes the same position would get re-posted a few weeks or months later. Enjoy your fucking comeuppance.
  14. Doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I park overnight in my driveway (wife takes the garage). Drive to work where I park in a shaded garage all day. Whether I'm driving to work in the morning or home in the evening, when it's as hot as it has been lately, it feels like the air coming out of the vents is ~55 degrees vs. the ~45 degrees you'd want to see. I'm gonna see what happens if I add some additional refrigerant. My gauge is currently showing ~40 PSI, which is basically ideal range for normal weather. Might goose it to ~50 (top of acceptable range) and see if that solves it.
  15. 1 month later check in. Still steady working out and eating better. Definitely in much better "shape" than when I started. Gut still soft but protruding out way less than before, pants are fitting great, starter double chin receding...etc. Still a grind to actually drop any significant weight though. 202 as of yesterday morning. In an effort to achieve the bolded, I decided to be extra strict on the diet and make sure I hit the gym every weekday this week and next. I think I can breach 200 sometime next week. Wish me luck.
  16. I've noticed the past 2 summers that the AC on my '14 F150 KR just doesn't work all that great when it's this fucking hot outside. It blows fine, but the air coming out just isn't as cold as I'd like it to be. It's not like I'm sweating, but it ain't shit compared to when I get in someone else's car and it's ice cold. I checked my refrigerant levels and they're in normal range. Air filter is brand new. Apparently this is not terribly uncommon in F150's this age. Anyone else? I just hit 80K miles last weekend (bought January '17 with just 29K and have been lucky to have very short work commutes). It's been paid off for about 2 years now. I'm starting to get the itch to get something new, but I'm in the classic dilemma where I could probably get 25K or so for it, I'd have to shell out at least 60K for a 2 or 3 year old equivalent with less than 40K miles.
  17. First back to back wins since beginning of the month.
  18. Until the 8th inning last night, it looked like the Astros were about to drop a 3rd straight series to an inferior opponent, and the Rangers were going to be 6.5 back. Les than 20 hours later, we took 2 out of 3 and they're 9.5 back.
  19. Possibly some modest relief on gas prices coming. RBOB futures are down almost 40 cents in the past 5 trading days and at a 3-week low. A decent rule of thumb for Texas pump prices is to take RBOB and add ~40 cents and then round up to the nearest 9. So, RBOB at $4.25, regular unleaded $4.69 RBOB at $3.89, regular unleaded $4.29
  20. I know this is a reference to Goldschmidt, but also:
  21. This is fun. Well, probably not for the kid that got pulled after 0.2 IP/6 ER during his first and probably only start of the year.
  22. Yep, I know some field land guys/brokers that have definitely embraced renewables work. Lots of wind and solar projects to go along with their traditional O&G.
