July 4th Hill Country Flooding Tragedy
I've seen that video, and can't understand why the Bubble Inn and Twins campers weren't with that group going to Rec Hall. I don't know the timing on that video, maybe it was after the waters started receding? But that doesn't seem to jive with what I've read coming from some of the girls that were evacuated to Rec Hall. And yes that building is in the floodway, but it has a second floor or balcony that the girls were taken to above the flood waters. The risk there was if that building would have gotten washed away, or if the river had kept rising. Neither of which happened. Not sure why they chose to evacuate there. Maybe closest and quickest place to get as high as possible?

July 4th Hill Country Flooding Tragedy
I certainly don't either. I was attempting to come up with an explanation as to why certain cabins were hit so hard, based on what I remember about the camp. Should have have just kept that to myself. You obviously have first hand information. So apologize that I misspoke about the reality of the situation, and, just sorry your family has been thrust into this horrible event.

July 4th Hill Country Flooding Tragedy
My daughter was a Mystic camper several years ago and stayed in one of the cabins (Bumble Inn) that lost all of the girls and counselors. If you look at the map showing the location of the cabins (white outline), the two furthest to the northwest are Bumble Inn and I think the other is Twins I and II. The rest of the cabins are in a line running northeast to southwest. Those cabins are right up against a large hill (dark gray color). So, I am thinking the girls in those cabins were able to get out the back windows and immediately climb up hill to safety. Where as the cabins further away from the hill (Bumble Inn, Twins I and II, others?) had no where to escape and were quickly surrounded by water. I have not heard what other cabins besides Bumble Inn took the most losses, but I think I read somewhere that Twins was one of the ones Dick Eastland was trying to evacuate when he was swept away with girls in his vehicle. It's absolutely no excuse but unfortunately I would guess the second quote (Hook's) might be pretty accurate. The Eastlands and previous family members have owned this camp for close to 100 years, obviously they had never seen anything of this magnitude. I mentioned in a post earlier in this thread, that all the facilities (dining hall, infirmary, activities building, etc..) are all down below in the "flats" area of the camp where the younger girls cabins are located. And the older campers are on Senior Hill which is a bit of steep hike for the younger girls and is more suited for the older campers. So I'm fairly certain proximity to facilities and ease of access are the main reason for why the young girls were located in the flats. One other thing I noticed, the valley the river runs in, along the camp "pinches in" against the large hill to the southeast, on the far east side of the camp area, creating a kind of funnel. With the amount of water in this flood, I am betting that narrowing might have caused the flood water to back up and rise even higher than the max river crest. In a sick twist of irony the name of the infirmary building is "Heaven Can Wait". This whole thing is just shattering. I have met some of the people who were lost and one of my nieces friends lost her daughter who was at Camp Mystic and has not been recovered to date.

July 4th Hill Country Flooding Tragedy
My daughter was a Mystic camper and stayed in Bubble Inn one term. I just saw her group cabin picture this weekend. My niece was a Mystic camper and UT grad. One of her roommates and good friends (also UT grad) that she lived with shortly after graduating, is the mother of one of the missing Mystic girls from San Antonio. This shit hits way too close to home. For the poster asking about the location of the young girl’s cabins in the flats close to the river. They did that because of the closer proximity to all the facilities. The older campers were on Senior Hill. It’s a little tricky walking up and down to those cabins. More suited to older campers. I think the cabins in the flats are about 20 feet above the river. I don’t think the flood in 1987 reached those cabins. This one did. Just can’t wrap my head around it. So tragic.

Transfer Cycle 2024-2025 - Stop Being Poor
Seems like this guy has potential, but gives off a very mercenary type vibe. If he doesn't get as much playing time as he expects, I could see him portaling after a year. Who knows, maybe he's worth a shot.

Yeah, knocking tOSU Dlinemen backwards (especially on the goal line) definitely doesn't fit.

2024 Volleyball: SEC, here comes Daddy
I pay attention to middles quite a bit, and I think the graduation of O'Neal was a big loss for this team. Her slide was unstoppable and was almost a guaranteed point every time. She is a natural one footed jumper and could jump over almost all the blocks. Plus she served really well and was a solid blocker, and a team leader. The middles this year are a work in progress, Singletary improved throughout the year and was pretty solid by the end of the season. Ames is just a freshman so too early to tell, but I'm not sure if she has the athleticism on the slide or quickness that this team has had in the past.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
It's a bit difficult to give you much credit here, when you call him a pussy at every opportunity. I agree for the most part, with Sidis's longcat post. Plus, Sark's not going to play Manning for any meaningful snaps at this point, unless Ewers gets hurt, so we have to deal with Quinn's good and bad for the rest of the season.
