  1. Little Miss Trump looking good
  2. Ted Cruz has resting douche face
  3. Start a thread and I’ll discuss it with you
  4. Yes, in addition to being unqualified to lead based on her performance as SOS. This is controversial?
  5. You don’t think that Hillary is a criminal?
  6. If you want to start another thread to discuss this further, I’ll join you there. Frankly, it would be a waste of both our time, but I’ll try to spoon feed you none the less.
  7. I meant to say “expounding” but had a brain fart. I don’t think it’s quite the ordeal you’re making it. Absolutely I have evidence. Is David Duke a respected figure in society? Malcolm X’s rhetoric was the same only flipped on the race of the protected and aggressors. There is a reason we have a MLK Day but not a Malcolm X Day. The KKK thinks that whites are oppressed too. The Nation of Islam is considered a hate group just like the KKK. Saying that an oppressed minority group can argue segregation and violence because they’ve earned it isn’t an argument I can buy. Cut the bullshit with “black people I don’t like” accusation. The entire point of this thread is to discuss the racist photo of an elected official and the potential influence it has on his ability to govern. Malcolm X was brought up explicitly to make a point: Racism is celebrated in some circumstances and disavowed in others. (A direct argument to someone’s comment on Conferedate statues) Nothing was fabricated. I wanted to know if people can be redeemed for their actions by those quick to condemn. Speaking of fabrications, you may want to research the Obama-Wright controversy. It wasn’t just a sermon. I voted for Obama, so sorry, you can’t use that one either.
  8. Understood. The only reason the Malcolm X comparison was made was to illustrate that a person's actions/speech at one time may not ultimately define them as a person. Yet, Malcolm X is celebrated for spending the majority of his life eschewing racial views that are condemned if a white speaker claims them against blacks. If we want to talk about elected officials, Bill Clinton comes to mind. We know for a fact that he was a womanizer. It didn't affect his ability to govern. Barack Obama grew up in Jeremiah Wright's church and failed to condemn him as a person until he was left with no choice. Listening to Wright's anti-American sermons did not affect his ability to govern. In both instances, people from both sides of the aisle insisted that Clinton and Obama resign for their association with moral outrage. Neither did and the chatter died down. I think both Presidents did some good things while in office despite the scandals in the private lives. There is no evidence to suggest that Northam being a willing participant in this photo has had any bearing on his ability to serve the people of VA either.
  9. Imagine if he had grabbed women by the pussy.
  10. You didn't miss it. He never held public office at the taxpayer's expense. I'm surprised you didn't know that. Oh, that was your response to neutralize the contradiction? That he was never in office and therefore gets a pass as a public figure? Well, never mind then. My example is totally not a double standard for what is acceptable and what is not in America today. It was a reach for a point, at best.
  11. AA is very stingy on letting you use their metal for TA flights. (Especially from DFW) The Golden Era of 2013 is long gone. I'm confused on your wait list comment though. Is this a ticket you purchased that was upgraded or did you use miles? AA doesn't fly AUS-LHR so I figured that it was the former. Otherwise, you're going to get hit with the TATL BA fee.
  12. Who has advocated that this picture was OK?
  13. Right. I thought we were basing outrage on singular actions from people though? Northam apologizing for the picture and not showing any indication of racism in his policies as governor doesn't mean shit. Why should Malcolm X get a pass? You can't keep moving the goalposts. We either condemn people for their proven held views/humor at a period of their life or we admit that people can be shitty, can learn from it and move on with their lives wiser.
  14. He advocated fore the separation of races because whites are the devil and blacks are the original and superior race. You know, the reverse theology of David Duke, who doesn't have a statue in his likeness or a street named after him, preaches. There's a reason we have and MLK Day and not a Malcolm X Day...unless you live in Berkeley.
  15. Which is consequential. Had they not posted it in a yearbook, it still would have happened yet no one would have been the wiser. Northam keeps his job and this thread doesn't exist. No one would be calling him a racist and we would be talking about Trump's latest misstep instead. That's pretty much exactly my point. A stupid act by a "kid" was encapsulated when it should have been long forgotten 35 years ago.
  16. I'm going to go out on a limb here, but maybe as a poor choice of a joke between friends? I'm guessing this wasn't a pre-game for a Friday night and more of a "Jake dressed up like Dennis Rodman" type of thing.
  17. I was alive in 1985. I've also watched "Remember the Titans", which took place 13 years prior to the photo. I also remember a Jefferson Davis statue being on UT's campus up until recently. I member.
  18. Now or in 1985 when the incident occurred? In what context are AIDS jokes or calling someone a faggot OK?
  19. Depends. Over the picture? 100% agree with you and I don't think I've seen someone disagree with that. Over the circumstances? Well, it depends on what side of the fence reside on. It either exposes the guy as a lifelong racist, despite nothing in his policies backing that claim, or it was poor judgment from a 20-something back in the day with absolutely no context to the situation. (Was it a costume party? Was it a Fraternity gig? Was it a "joke"? Was it a run-of-the-mill Friday night in med school?) Are you offended by a picture of Obama and Jeremiah Wright? What about a still from the movie "White Chicks"? I think most people can put that into context of the situation.
  20. Bingo. I don't believe I've seen someone offer an opinion that the photo is anything other than completely disgusting. Yet, if you don't have your pitchfork out because of the facts, you might as well be wearing a Klan uniform even though his ability/inability to govern doesn't affect 98% of the people who see themselves as political and sociological experts.
  21. A few things here: 1. I agree, it should be left to local citizens to comment and decide the fate. So why does Nancy Pelosi's opinion, or any talking head for that matter, mean anything in this controversy? The citizens of Virginia are the only voices that should be heard. They have the ability to express their outrage, if any, at the polls. 2. I've traveled a lot. I don't think I recall seeing a Malcolm X Blvd. in a predominately white area nor a Jefferson Davis High School in a predominately black area. I'm not saying that neither of these things exist, just that it would be a unicorn. But, if racial makeup is the criteria we are using, then it kind of defeats the argument doesn't it? 80% of the population of Virginia isn't black. Still, the question remains: How do you personally feel about Malcolm X statues or streets named after him?
  22. Kind of like being a governor of Virginia and letting the fate be in the hands of those affected, I suppose.
  23. Who said that they are on the same level? I'm just asking a question. How do you feel about it?
  24. I don't think "comparing" means what you think it means. I did notice that you didn't answer the question.
