Why didn't you just use the bacon fat, skip the butter?

Andrew Yang for prez...
OK, I don't know the answer to that. It does sound like he wants to keep all the existing programs going, which misses an opportunity for a great deal of savings on overhead if we were to get rid of those departments and go with straight cash instead.

UBI has to be U(niversal) or it wouldn't fly politically. If it were only a benefit for 'those people' it would die with a quickness, if it ever gets born at all; that's why pushes to means-test SS and Medicare are misguided: once they become welfare programs for the poor they'll be killed. It's the same reason the Nordic countries' programs are so successful - they are not socialism in the sense of given on the basis of need - that is, mainly to the poor - but universal services: everyone gets the same benefits.

I thought you said you listened to it. I only listened to the first 20 minutes of it and he answers this question. You've got it backwards - the $1000/mo. isn't reduced by the amount someone is already receiving. Everyone gets at least 1000/mo. If they already get more than that from other benefits, they don't get reduced down to 1000/mo.; they still get the same amount they were getting before. They just don't get another 1000 on top of it.

Cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, etc.)
So it turns out cryptocurrencies aren't unhackable after all: https://www.technologyreview.com/s/612974/once-hailed-as-unhackable-blockchains-are-now-getting-hacked/ Color me surprised.

True. And it can't be repeated too often. Can everybody just stop paying attention to Twitter? Please?

Nope, even then. UFCU was 1.75 at the time.

New Car Deal Thread of Frustration
Yes, the credit union financing is a must. UFCU can do it Horn's way, above, or you can get a predetermined amount in a check before you even go into the dealer; if you've negotiated a price already (e.g., through the Costco program) this works well. It's what I did last time, about a year and a half ago, and the dealer couldn't come close to the interest rate UFCU gave me. I actually put some of the balance on a cash-back credit card, but the dealer had a limit on how much you could put on a CC.

New Car Deal Thread of Frustration
From what I've read, and in my limited experience, the dealership makes most of its new car profit from your trade-in; they always low-ball the trade in offer by a few thousand. This can be the most difficult part of the negotiation; they're willing to bend on most other stuff, but getting more for your trade takes money directly out of their pockets. And vice-versa for you. The only real way to handle it is to get a firm quote from Autotrader or Cars.com or wherever, and be willing to walk away from the deal you've just spent a lot of time and energy negotiating on the new car if they come in too much below that. Of course the convenience of the trade-in process, not having to hassle with selling the car yourself, and the fact that the trade-in counts as a reduction in the price of the new car, thus saving you some money on sales tax, all factor into it too.

Top 5 candy rankings
Never had a Zagnut. Am I missing out? Never even heard of a Chick-o-stik. Is that a chicken-flavored candy? Cause that sounds disgusting.

do you replace the tires on your vehicle with the same brand/type?
Agreed - I did the same thing when I had a WRX a few years ago. Problem is I was spending so much time driving in traffic that I hardly ever got a chance to take advantage of it....might as well have been driving a Corolla or some shit 90 percent of the time.

Smart guy. Well thought out ideas. Good stuff. It's interesting that ideas like UBI and other stuff considered wildly radical and too fringe to even be taken seriously, are now being taken seriously. Is this a crack in the corporate media propaganda bubble, or something else?

Running Alt-Right Thread of Mockery and Hypocrisy
What the fuck is going on in this country? There was a kid in my high school, decades ago, that used to stand for the pledge of allegiance. That is, he stood and walked out of the room when it came on. Every day. Nobody gave a solitary fuck.

2019 Body Transformation Thread
Metamucil is just psyllium husks with flavoring added. I hate the artificial orange flavor, and just buy the unflavored natural psyllium. Not much taste, kind of a disgusting texture, and it works the same. Just chug it down fast. Cheaper, too.

Shart Thread 2019: Year of the Squirt
2 already today and it's still early. I'm on antibiotics for a foot infection, and I blame that. For the first one I was pretty sure the fart was treacherous, but let it out full bore anyway. Yup. I was still at home so I just cleaned up, changed underwear, and went on with my day. Embrace the shart! Second one didn't make it to the underwear because of some excellent situational awareness on my asscheeks' part. I think it still counts. Probably going to end up with a hat trick for the day.
