  1. Not as we know it, but there also wasn't steam power, antibiotics, or the letter J, but here we are. ONe need only read Otto Frank's increasingly desperate pleas for a Visa to escape Holland to understand the need for empathy toward refugees.
  2. Man, my ancestors, fleeing land evictions during the Highland Clearances and the Revocation of the Treaty of Nantes were accepted as refugees in this country and allowed to stay and fluorish. Whatever cuck communist that put that policy in place didn't want to make America Great.
  3. I think it's fairly common in Eastern Europe/Former USSR and Republics.
  4. If there’s any military on earth where your could drop off a bunch of equipment on the border and say “figure it out” It’s the Ukrainians. You could give them a fully equipped carrier with no instructions and they’d be bombing the fuck out out Crimea within a few weeks.
  5. It's funny but the second in command, James Raterman, who is actually a military interrogator in real life, came off as much more menacing by the end. His final interview with Regina Hall was quietly very scary.
  6. Game day announced at Eugene next week.
  7. The cuts at other flagship state programs is 100x worse because they don’t have a PRF. At schools like UVA or UNC the state barely provides any funds at all. It’s the primary driving factor behind admitting out of state and foreign students: you can pump the sticker price and charge full freight to offset legislature imposed tuition caps for in state students to please the body politic. Maryland is notoriously hard to get in state admission, even as they will let any fool from New Jersey who can cut a full price tuition check. Which is a direct by product of New Jersey decision to starve their public higher education system outside of the Rutgers Campus.
  8. You’re generally correct, but naming names is a throwback to McCarthism.
  9. Putting aside the above, Perfida’s activism was more about the action being the juice (to paraphrase Heat) than any true political ideology.
  10. I’m not sure there is a short position in the world other than hiding in a bunker full of gold that will prepare you for a Trump appointed Fed just printing money. I think the Supremes will allow the tariffs to stand out of fear of roiling the bond market, which is relying on short term tariff revenue to reduce the deficit, but probably includes some wishy-washy Kavanaugh language about we reserve the right to revisit/this isn’t precedent. They clearly care about the state of the stock market or they would have allowed him to fire Lisa Cook and Jpow.
  11. For the left, he was roundly disappointing even at inauguration. For the rest of us, he was “meh” but relief. I don’t know anyone outside his immediate political circle was actually excited and jazzed for his presidency other than he wasn’t TFG.
