  1. exactly. additionally, WVU has (or had?) long-running rivalry games against Univ of Pittsburgh and to some extent against Penn State. Those games and that history likely ensures them a pipeline just like OU has one in north Texas. And unlike OU, West Virginia's campus is pretty and isn't even that far from PA border and from Pittsburgh... that whole Mon Valley area is a major high school football recruiting area because of many good quality programs and talent... far more than the much larger Philly area.
  2. Lawrence? Lawrence what of Arabia? That name sounds like royalty. Are you royalty? I don't like the name Lawrence, only faggots and sailors are called Lawrence. From now on you're Gomer Pyle. @BERT will appreciate this quote.
  3. interesting; i'll be interested to see how A&M's recruiting has changed post-SEC move. But the web site seems to be running quite slow.
  4. Joe Jon certainly making quick career moves. Came over to A&M after Brewster left and used Jimbo's TE-centric O to land a gig and probably higher pay at Ole Miss, using Joey Freshwater's fast O and senior TE to make the most of that move...and now to OU and a title upgrade. Baylor, Mizzou, A&M, Ole Miss, OU... quite the tour in a short time...been coaching only since about 2013.
  5. "That's gold, Jerry. Gold!" I need to go binge watch Curb again. Definitely the sense of humor is up my alley.
  6. "With that being said..." really is starting to grate on my nerves; it's very similar reaction to the "no love lost" which is actually a worse phrase in the context it is written by the 'cruits. It sounds like... With that being said.... yada yada yada...
  7. The whole Wanya Morris to A&M feels like a portal flavor-of-the-month deal. Earlier there was talk about going after Jordan Moko, a Juco from Utah. Personally, neither of those seem likely (A&M hasn't landed very many guys from Utah and Georgia), unless they feel a buy-in about the A&M OL coach and overall scheme fit. I do feel that any transfer Jimbo might try to land would be at the OT spot.
  8. Not sure whether A&M would look at the transfer market, especially for a short speedster-- they probably feel that sort of a player is already on the team in the name of Anaias Smith. Plus, it seems the problem is Jimbo's overly complicated wide receiver playbook which requires receivers to run crisp routes but also be good blockers and be more cerebral. Tack on, on top of that, breaking in a new starter at QB. This past season's passing game struggles were real though a bit muted because of a senior QB who provided stability (mediocrity is also stability, you should understand). His main target was Jhamon Ausbon-- who opted out of the season. Another senior WR speedster with some game experience, Camron Buckley, also went down with a season ender injury. Then Chapman was coming along but got season-ending injury in the Florida game. Buckley is coming back, and hopefully Chapman has full recovery. And then Demon Demas and/or Moose Muhammad better take advantage and crack the starting lineup. Demas didn't play his senior year in high school and might need to not just get rid of rust but also get rid of any thoughts of having been a 5-star recruit and just be a blue collar team player-- that's how a low-rated (but speedster and nose-to-the-grindstone work ethic) guy like Chase Lane from the same recruiting class started his freshman season and became a decent contributor.
  9. Not sure what @HtownHorn meant by referencing "injuries at OL" but if I had to assume, I would say he meant "potential" future injuries at OL-- especially among the planned/expected starters who were in the 2-deep in the just concluded season. If so, that injury bug is always looming on any team, that's not something peculiar or specific to Jimbo. AFAIK, there aren't any injured OL among the ones expected to start or contribute, nor is there any major history of OLs getting injured, aside from one-off guys like Blanton who was supposed to be great coming out of high school but never played a meaningful snap in games. OTOH, there are in fact good quality OL, but it'll be a matter of finding the 5 that play together and gel. And maybe Jimbo will try to land a plug-and-play transfer. WR room is more urgently needing speedy talent.
  10. Is his brother named Rayon? Does he run silky-smooth routes? just having some innocent fun; not racist, but perhaps childish. (the previous year's recruiting class had one name that stuck out in my mind: Ga'Quincy McKistry; he is a top rated DB. Would have been perfect had he signed with, you know, UGa. But he chose Bama. Didn't change his name though )
  11. WR De'Nylon Morrissette, Snellville (GA.) Brookwood has to be one of the most interesting names in this class! Is his dad named Nylon? (De'Marvin Leal's dad is Marvin). Maybe his dad goes by Cotton? And with a last name Morissette (or a version of the spelling), wouldn't it be ironic for Cotton to name his son Nylon? (Alanis might agree). Do wide receivers like wearing cotton socks or nylon? does De'Nylon knock people's socks off by his speed and route running skillz? So many questions, so little time! Am I running way off tangent on this name thing? Maybe I should stop while I'm behind.
  12. I'd be more worried about Ole Miss. They may start to have a better D to go with that explosive O.
  13. what was his first dream realized? getting into UT? Especially that aerospace engineering program? i wonder if he is referencing the famous Dr. Randy Pausch lecture about how to realize one's dreams; if so, the kid is rare among jocks/footballers in at least that respect. (I recommend watching the Last Lecture by Dr. Pausch on youtube, if you haven't seen it yet or don't know what I'm talking about)
  14. There is decent talent in the two deep that can hopefully step up along OL and LB. Not as much worried about the DL. But OL and LB are two spots that get better with more experience, and you can't replace in-game experience. So yea, it'll be an "adventure" next year. That Colorado game early is looming large. I bet it will be played up even more, since you guys demolished them in the Alamo. Blake Trainor/Grayson Reed battle at one OT spot; hoping Kenyon Green is kept at guard, he is great there; Luke Matthews (the last of the Matthews kids) or Layden Robinson at Center (whoever wins that competition for starting spot should be pretty decent); Bryce Foster could push for starting at the other OG spot unless Aki or Josh Bankhead step up; and then maybe Reed/Trainor take the other OT spot... unless Jimbo can land a plug-and-play guy from transfer portal-- Jordan Moko (but L$U and Oregon are pushing for his signature too). They probably want the signed class to all redshirt, including Fatheree. Linebacker is slightly better, but that's where you need a brains and brawn-- disciple to stay the lane or shadow a mobile QB, never take a penalty, etc. Buddy Johnson excelled in all of that, but as we know so well, these things have to be learned and most often come with experience. Andre White has played some meaningful minutes, but need at least another of the guys to be ready-- one of the 3 4-stars and 2 high 3-stars. And then, one of the safeties often plays closer to the box and next to linebackers... plenty of potentially decent to good options for this spot. The spring training and fall will be super important with this turnover needing to be sorted out and then starters given time to scrimmage together and gain reps. Covid could screw all that up...
  15. haha that is certainly a nice thing to hang your hat on, isn't it? it'll never get old for you. That's quite ok. Truth is truth. I'm not sulking over the matter though, you see. So you guys shouldn't sulk over a guy you had committed for less than a month, two years ago, either. It's not a good look. Especially for the mighty Longhorns, is the gist of my comment here. Didn't mean to seem like I was salting an open wound.
  16. Unless Jake has a side piece seems to me he is missing out on his prime college stud days with so many pretty options running around in Austin. Now that Bammmer QB from a couple years ago who put a ring on a reigning state beauty queen-- he did well for himself.
  17. Since this popped up, I got curious and hopped on to 247 and kept looking at the Texas class of 2020, and couldn't find this guy. Didn't realize he was committed to you guys for less than a month...back in spring of 2019 (from Feb 16, 2019, to Mar 8, 2019). that's almost 2 years ago.
  18. Elko is alright. He is getting paid very highly (top 5 paid for coordinators or something like that?) for turning around a lagging D, but the backside of that D (and he is a DB coach by position) is still left wanting. He did put together a decent set of D coaches as a coordinator. Seems to me the really important coach on a value basis is that DT coach with mid-atlantic connections who has landed several 4-star studs along the DL and really made that run-D stout. Pay that guy and keep him a couple more years if possible. There was smoke of him potentially getting poached by Rutgers or Maryland last year but he stayed on and obviously has made a positive difference along the front 7. Elko has the wandering eyes and possibly an ego to sate, and nothing can fix that other than having tried out that head coaching experience. Rare is the guy like the Clemson DT who is happy with his station in life and doesn't want to have the larger title. Good news is, your coaches are usually sought out if they're considered good by others. And if Elko does leave, he will have left behind a cupboard well stocked to entice a decent replacement.
  19. My buffer zone just went from 1200 miles to 2 feet! You know what you're doing, don't you? You're killing Independent Jerry! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzxQc7jGehA
  20. someone here was dreaming about landing Dylan Wright from A&M when he hadn't gotten much playing time and then when he officially portaled; news today is he ended up going to Minnesota. SIAP.
  21. What kind of offense does Harsin run? I wonder if Aubs is in for a complete retooling or will they hit the ground running? I'm guessing more than likely Auburn can expect to end at the bottom of the SEC West most likely, as even Arky has looked good this year even in its losses, and the Miss schools will likely take the next step in Year 2 of their corching regimes. Auburn probably averages out at 8-4 in the next three seasons; they could have gotten the same or better with Gus and potentially more in some years.
