  1. A coworker came back from a short vacation in Seattle last week. A couple days later, he had flu symptoms so he went to his doctor. They asked if he had travelled lately, and when they found out he had, they put him in a mask and isolated him. A while later they came back and said there was an ambulance out front to transport him to the hospital. They made him go to the ER to find out he had a cold, not the flu. Wouldn't even do the flu test in their office. Yeah, we're all fucked.
  2. Flight attendants are probably 2nd most likely behind only Mall Santas. Just be thankful this didn't hit 2 months sooner.
  3. Less than 2 weeks, thanks to a certain flight attendant. And I for one welcome our new viral overlords!
  4. Where can I get some good fish? Inquiring stomachs want to know.
  5. If I'm wrong, I'd love to hear it, but taxes and individual tax rate shouldn't matter if you're trading within an IRA. You're not pulling money out of your account, just revising your investment profile. In my case, the money from the sale is sitting in a money market fund until I'm ready to re-invest. If you're dealing with mutual/index funds, then length of ownership would matter. Depending on your account, there could be transaction fees for short term investment strategies with these sorts of long investments.
  6. If you're looking at total shares in ownership, then yes, you would be ahead. Whether or not the stock will climb back to the highs reached prior to this tumble is not for us to say. Looking at the long term trends in the market, it would seem inevitable, but there's always uncertainty in the future. Regardless, if you're in it for the long haul, then yeah, you're still better off having sold off and bought back in at a lower market price.
  7. The aforementioned expulsion for a drug offense was the result of a zero-tolerance policy. They still exist and are enforced.
  8. My MIL just retired a couple months ago after being a counselor for special needs students for years, both Jr. High and High School. I can assure you that kids do get expelled. Some require admission to in-patient treatment facilities, others go to juvie. One of her success stories ended up going to a military-style last-chance boarding school (after being expelled for a drug offense) to ensure the he graduated. If there is a legitimate reason why the student can't behave in a regular class environment, the district should be providing the resources/accommodations necessary for that student to learn without disruption to other students.
  9. I tried to sell off about 12% of my Blue Chip Growth mutual fund on Friday expecting the market to tumble. Unfortunately, I didn't get my order in before EOB, so it wasn't filled until after Monday trading, so I only got about 95% of the value I expected. I'm going to sit it out for a bit and try to jump back in on the eventual rebound. I see it as setting some winnings aside at a craps table to ensure I come out ahead.
  10. Really tempted to divest nearly all of my stocks and set it in a money market until the impending correction. I can't believe the economic situation is a rosy as the market would have you believe, even without a potential pandemic.
  11. Sanders is older than Bloomberg. Bloomberg just turned 78. Sanders turns 79 in September. Biden turns 78 in November.
  12. I forgot, I added a splash of heavy cream to mine as I had some left over in the fridge from making steak au poivre for Valentines. That's why the gravy isn't as dark as you would otherwise expect.
  13. Had a solid 3/4lb chunk of ground chuck that I formed into a patty roughly the shape of 2 side-by-side slices of bread. Seasoned the top with salt, pepper, onion powder, and garlic powder. Brought a stainless skillet up to temp and added a little oil and put in the "steak" seasoning side down. Once it's in the pan, don't move it; we want a nice crust. Seasoned the now top with salt and pepper and cooked over medium high heat for 4-5 minutes. Scrape the burger off the pan, making sure most of the crunchy bits stay on the meat, and cook the other side for another 4 minutes. The middle might now be cooked enough for your liking if your meat is too thick, but that's not a problem. Put the meat on a plate to rest tented in foil, sopped up some excess oil before adding a little butter. Once it's done bubbling, add about 1-2T of flour and cook for a couple minutes, scraping up the fond. I added about a cup of hot, concentrated beef broth (about 2-3 times the Better Than Bouillon called for to make a cup of broth) and stirred vigorously to make a roux. Bring to a boil and taste for seasoning, dilute as needed if it's too thick. Add the rested meat and whatever drippings from the plate back to the pan. You can cook a bit longer now if needed, but mine was good, so it just went back from the pan onto my waiting untoasted bread. Cardiologists and lack of manual labor are probably good reasons why this isn't more common anymore, but damn does it hit the spot when all you want is beefy goodness.
  14. Open face hot hamburg sandwich is a decisively underrepresented piece of American cuisine. So fucking delicious.
  15. Dig up, man. Dig up. Defending/justifying the actions of the deceased here just kills any credibility you have relative to other actual bad cop shootings.
  16. If he had, he likely would have hit the 18 year old girl in the passenger seat.
  17. Sounds like the deceased's family is wrapped up in a lawsuit, trying to get a civil claim of wrongful death, but I don't know if there's a jury in America that would side with the idiot that tried to run down a cop. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
  18. ”Any reasonably trained police officer would understand (Gomez-Guerrero’s) actions to mean he was attempting to turn his car away from the police officer," according to the deceased's attorney. Sure, Counsel. Sure. https://www.chicagotribune.com/suburbs/lake-county-news-sun/ct-lns-waukegan-police-shooting-video-st-0213-20200212-qfwgorguvrga5nlrkag4eql6ju-story.html
  19. Not even close to the same situation. The car was stopped when he approached and intentionally started moving towards the cop. I'm as ACAB as the next guy, but I really don't see anything wrong in this case. Cop is lucky he wasn't run over.
  20. Don't forget to pack your essential oils! They're essential!
  21. Looks fantastic, but why don't they call it what it really is, boeuf bourguignon?
