  1. We're fine. Outplayed them outside of the fucking ref show. Get it back in the 2nd
  2. Absolute fucking horseshit officiating. Unfucking real. Never should have been 4-4, phantom fucking call, and then that? Fuckin cocksuckers.
  3. Didn't catch any of that game. As awful as NHL scheduling is for all central time zone playoff teams, last night for Minn was worst I've ever seen. What time did the puck actually drop?
  4. Yep. And Otter outplayed Blackwood in game 2. Blackwood didn't really play "poorly" either in game 2. We really could have scored 6+ if he was having an off night. I think Otter would have probably liked to save 1 of those first 2 Avs goals yesterday but he also came up really clutch with some first period saves when they were rolling to keep it within reach (and then was locked in after the 3rd goal). I definitely think Otter will probably need to steal a road game with an A performance for us to win this series.
  5. He got pushed. Looks like he went down easy. I was at game but there was some point (3rd period I think) where there should have been a legit penalty that didn't get called. Possibly due to his rep. I'm the first to bitch about the Marchment experience with my Stars buddies. He takes way too many stupid penalties (first period resulting in MacKinnon power play goal Exhibit A), embellishes more often than most which hurts him with legit calls, and just about the time I'm ready to be completely done with him, he'll score a huge goal.
  6. You whine incessantly about called penalties you don't think should have been called but aren't complaining about the refs. Got it.
  7. If you didn't think the Stars play a solid game 1 you are letting the final result cloud your judgment. Colorado's first goal was a total fluke. Then Blackwell made a ton of great saves and we also just missed some good chances in the first and the 2nd. Then we were in the exact situation as we were in the 3rd period last night. We were down a goal and pressuring, very easily could have scored and tied it up, instead rebounds goes out for an odd man breakaway and that's the game. The 5-1 final was not indicative of how close the overall play was. It was a pretty evenly "played" game. They just had some luck and made the plays and saves that mattered. That's the thing about hockey more than any other sport. So much of the game is dictated by bounces. I mean look at the game winner last night. The rebound just sat there on the ice for Blackwell spinning which probably helped him elevate it. We were due for a bounce like that.
  8. I'm still pretty optimistic about Rantanen long term. The skill for a guy his size really pops even when it doesn't produce a result. I think once he gets more chemistry with his teammates the points will follow. I'm sure he would love nothing more than to have a big game in Denver. Hoping he and Duchene both can shut that crowd down this week.
  9. Oh for sure. We played like shit most of that 7 game win streak leading up to the losing streak and a few games before that. I think it was a combination of a condensed schedule + pretty much being locked into playoff seeding. I mean after that loss @ Winnipeg early part of March it was going to be damn near impossible to catch them and only got close because of a bunch of lucky wins. But whatever it was, I do think the team flipped the switch and I wasn't sure they could. That doesn't necessarily mean I think we are winning this series. I still favor the Avs unless Miro can somehow get back soon and fall right back into form. But I legitimately thought we might have to flat out steal games maximizing on scoring chances + elite goaltending while being completely outplayed (much like several games during that win streak). We have absolutely held our own so far. As for Rantanen - I don't think we can really evaluate until next year. He's clearly still trying to find his role. Hopefully he can come up with some big moments for us. I felt like the top line with Rantonen/Robertson/Hintz were starting to figure it out a bit and then of course we lose Robertson. Speaking of, definitely missing Robo this series. From ice level, it seems like numerous times there is space and we just need an accurate shot. I could be off but feel like this is the kind of goalie Robo would get to. Oh well, nothing we can do about that now. Need to keep elevating the puck.
  10. This. Maybe hold off on your hot sports opinions if you only watched half of a playoff game. I don't know if the losing streak (or play before the streak) just broke a lot of our fanbase or what but that isn't the same team we've seen the last 2 nights. Let's put things in perspective. The Avs are a Stanley Cup Favorite, favorite to win this series and we were home dogs both Saturday and Monday. Without Heiskanen, not only our best player but most important player, we are at a talent and schematic disadvantage against this Avs team. Yet we played a solid game 1 despite outcome (analytics say we outplayed them in game 1 but just didn't get the bounces and didn't finish) and after the first 10 minutes last night we thoroughly outplayed them. Again, the Avs are a really damn good team. I think they are definitely better than last year and it was hard to put them away then when we had both Tanev and Heiskanen. I was concerned our play from the last month would carry over into the playoffs but that obviously hasn't been the case (despite the final score in game 1). So personally, I'm far more optimistic now than I was before the series started despite losing home ice. Avs still rightful favorites but they have to be a little concerned they haven't dominated play so far with the Heiskanen wild card in play for the 2nd half of the series. I'll say this, Harley is turning into a flat out top tier defender before our eyes. He played 28 minutes Saturday and 36 last night. We need Miro back because I don't think he can carry that load all series but his future is really bright. Really liked what I saw out of old guys Benn/Seguin/Dadonov and 4th line. We really need more out of Duchene, Johnston and Rantanen. Miko played a ton last night but still just doesn't seem comfortable on O. It's like he's always looking to make the perfect pass. I'm sure he's going to connect on one at some point, but we need him to just say fuck it and try to get pucks on the net. I feel like the team overall took that approach as the game played on and that is the way we're going to beat these guys. There just isn't enough space in playoff hockey against this team to wait for the perfect play. I'm exhausted today but great night at the barn.
  11. Hmm. Maybe I should have debated the rules. I assumed it was allowed and just never actually happens unless MacKinnon asks for it.
  12. I'm not debating the rules. I'm saying it's rich complaining about refs when you have 2 guys that get superstar treatment consistently by the refs and citing this as evidence. To be clear, 29 wasn't writhing in pain on the ice injured. He was standing and bitching to an official while his team had possession on the complete opposite end of the ice until the ref finally blew the play dead. The point is if that is literally anyone else for either team, the ref almost certainly just shrugs and tells them they didn't see it and skates back down to the action. I mean it's a side benefit of employing arguably the best player in the league. I'm jealous.
  13. That's laughable. I don't think I've ever seen live play stopped like that well after the fact. I've seen plenty of missed high sticks where the offended player complains to the ref and they basically shrug and say they didn't see it. I don't know the broadcast view but this was all happening right in front of me. Colorado had possession and was attacking and 29 just stayed on the other end and bitched at the ref until he finally blew the whistle. I mean yes, the right call was made in the end, but I don't recall ever seeing a player call his own penalty like that.
  14. I'm not debating it is technically allowed. I'm saying nobody other than MacKinnon or McDavid would actually get the superstar treatment to stop live play a good 8-10 seconds after the fact when a ref obviously didn't see it live. Because from the arena it was very clear they didn't see it and stopped play after MacKinnon lobbied for it at length while play was continuing on opposite side of the ice.
  15. Absolutely ZERO chance play is stopped to review if that were the Stars or really anyone but 29. No official saw it at all. I'm not sure what it looked like on TV but it was bizarre from the arena. If that happens to anyone else the ref shrugs, says he didn't see it, and it's just another missed call (that happens all the time).
  16. And MacKinnon is 1 of probably only 2 guys in the entire league that gets to call his own penalties when nobody in stripes see it happen live. Don't understand why an Avs fan of all people is bitching about refs when everyone knows you're going to get the benefit of calls 9 times out of 10 against anyone you play. I'll freely admit Marchment's bullshit (taking bad penalties and diving at times) is annoying and his rep costs us and him but that was a penalty whether or not he oversold it. Not sure what you are arguing about.
  17. Haven't logged back in since before game 1 but strongly disagree with this take. I think that was easily the best we've played in over a month. We had some terrible puck luck, particularly the first goal, and you can't take a double minor even if it was the result of Mackinnon apparently just call his own fucking penalties because nobody saw it (it was bizarre in the arena as it took a while to figure out WTF was even going on) but I thought we played them pretty even lopsided final score aside. Their goalie made some great saves when we were pushing to tie it up leading to the breakaway goal on the other end. That's hockey. MoneyPuck had us at 3.84 to 3.64 expected goals and 59% chance of winning in the "deserve to win O'meter". The one thing that concerns me is not finishing great chances. I still haven't seen replay but one that jumped out at me from the stands was a Benn look where he could have elevated and buried it but shot it right into the body. That kind of thing is what hurt us last playoffs where we left way too many goals out there (all 3 series). On to tonight. I don't feel great about the series absent a Miro miracle as I don't think Harley can hold up playing that many minutes every game but do feel good about grabbing game 2. I'm pretty sure I'm 2-0 this season not drinking at all, so probably going to try to keep that streak alive for a 9PM start on a Monday after a holiday weekend!
  18. I'm guessing 'week to week' is code for not good at all. Likely going to have to win this series without him. I saw in practice they had Granlund/Hintz/Dadonov on a line and Benn/Johnston/Rantanen. With Robo out do we see Rantanen taking more double shifts like he did at Colorado? The vibes are bad but if we can grab game 1 the energy completely shifts. No reason, even without Robo, we can't score on these guys. Blackwood has never played in a playoff game. Score on him early and let him feel some pressure. Then we probably need Jake to play his A game. With state of our D and who we are playing, just no way we're going to shut them down. He's going to have to stop some super high quality chances for us to win.
  19. I served on a criminal jury in a domestic violence case last year. The victim testified in the trial (matter of fact testimony) and it was such open and shut case we reached a guilty verdict in less than 5 minutes. In the sentencing phase, the victim did not testify/give an impact statement or stick around. We deliberated about a day and a half on jail time vs. probation and landed on max probation. I was initially jail time and it was split down the middle on day 1. It was a fascinating deliberation experience for a bunch of reasons I won't get into for purposes of this thread and we ended up compromising at max probation. But what I personally struggled with was not knowing what the victim wanted. She was unemotional in trial testimony. If she would have testified at sentencing phase she wanted him in jail I would have 100% deferred to her wishes and not budged (and I think others would have felt the same). So in my experience the victim could have likely dictated a harsher outcome should they have wished. FWIW - I ended up reading it correctly in my gut as I spoke at length with prosecutor at end of trial that said victim had just moved on and was somewhat indifferent to punishment as long as he was found guilty (and prosecutor was very happy with max probation). I think after going through that I would almost certainly put very high value on what the victim (or their family) desired (should they articulate it) in punishment phase of a higher stakes criminal trial as well.
  20. There is more than enough high quality reporting over this entire fiasco that the picture of how this went down is pretty fucking clear unless you are wearing a tin foil hat. And that is besides the point that it flat out wouldn't make sense economically considering a Dallas franchise (top 5 market) is inherently more valuable than a Vegas franchise.
  21. JFC dude. Nico not getting fired this offseason is not fucking evidence of your tin foil hat conspiracy theory.
  22. I think time for everyone to just start ignoring chainsaw. He's either a troll or a complete moron. Either way, waste of everyone's time.
  23. Can we bitch in this thread about once again getting shitty slotting (home games 2 and 5 on a Monday with 8:30 starts (meaning actually 8:50 puck drop)). A Stars tradition like no other. If you want to attend and drink, hardly any ubers out so surge pricing to get you home after midnight with a Tuesday hangover. Perfect way to start the week!
  24. I dunno man. One of him on the jury might get you to a hung jury and a better plea, and in this world of pure idiocracy we live in, may not be a bad bet.
