  1. You are completely missing my point if you think '23 Florida State is relevant at all to a game the 2nd weekend in October.
  2. I don't think there is any chance that he plays. It's a free roll for OU (from a playoff committee perspective) and Venables (from a job preservation perspective). Nobody is going to blame OU if they lose without Mateer and of course Texas won't get any credit if they beat OU without their heisman candidate. Of course, if OU wins regardless, then everyone pretty much plugs them in as a playoff team and championship contender. So why would OU risk playing an injured player without real practice time when they have little downside and significant upside letting him heal? Even as dumb as most Sooners are, this one seems too obvious to me no matter how much we all hear he's planning to play, gametime decision etc. etc. the next 10 days.
  3. Yep. 40+ on that defense in the Swamp would be shocking based on what we've seen this year. I'm currently thinking something like horns 23-16.
  4. Not expecting this to be an easy game at all here. I expect FL to play desperate coming out of a bye week and there is a lot of talent on that squad.
  5. I came across a link to Napier's press conference and listened to a bit of it. Man he does not exude confidence. Say what you want about Sark's flaws but he is solid in a press conference and that is obvious when you hear some of the other guys. Biggest takeaway from the chunk I listened to is I definitely expect them to take more deep shots this week. Seemed like a point of emphasis.
  6. If I recall, they tried to do what Baylor did against us (and almost came back and won) in the Briles era after they went to their 3rd or 4th string (running wildcat with a skill position player). I figured that was coming in the week leading up to it. Clearly didn't surprise the staff either. The actual backup that year may have been the worst QB I've ever seen take a snap at OU although Hawkins wasn't that much better last year. Kent St. will actually be interesting to watch to see if he's developed at all as a passer. I'm sure they will try to get him plenty of live throwing reps regardless of the score. No doubt OU knows that if they don't have a passing threat against us they are fucked.
  7. Kiffin has tried to leave Ole Miss but for a better 'scene'. He really wanted the Miami job per coaching circles. Doubt Gainesville does much for him compared to Oxford.
  8. So basically what anyone with a brain would have expected the reaction to be from grieving parents. So fucking tone deaf and frankly grossly incompetent as well if they were hoping to avoid lawsuits. As posted above, if some parents were on the fence about suing that should tip them over. To announce reopening without even consulting with parents of the girls that were killed is beyond ridiculous. See quote from article below. Had you paused to reflect — or simply consulted with any one of our families — you might have spared grieving families the additional anguish your decisions now cause. Instead, your communications have only intensified our grief."
  9. First time I've watched Kimmel in years last night. I was kind of surprised they let him go all in. I'm sure Jimmy told them he was going to have his say or wasn't doing the show. Was pretty solid.
  10. This is exactly what I told my wife this morning as well. My lawsuit would be on the record before weeks end. Reminds me of the Aggy bonfire traditionalists that wanted to keep that going the next year.
  11. Don't start your shit over on this board too.
  12. I mean he was half a yard away from the 4 team playoffs in 2021 which is probably closer than any other coach is going to be able to get them in the expanded playoffs for the foreseeable future. It worked pre NIL era. Not so much now.
  13. Will be interested to hear details on this. It's clear this was his last year regardless. But I think he earned the right to coach the rest of the season and announce a mutual separation on his own terms (with understanding coaching search is underway). I mean that's basically what happened with Patterson right? Or maybe I'm misremembering. In any event, I wondered if they offered that up and he told them to pound sand and fire him (and they obliged).

I mean who knows what eligibility even means anymore. I saw a blurb Pavia posturing to sue for yet another year. I'm a huge fan of what some have proposed (and I'm pretty sure Sark endorsed in one of the press conferences) of 5 years of eligibility period. No RS concept. Everyone gets 5 years max from the time they step foot on campus.
  15. Why are we worried about Arkie 2 months from now? Pittman may very well be fired by then. That team will probably implode if they can't upset ND this week. Memphis loss looked every bit to be a program killer after the prior week. Inexcusable loss. Really no point looking ahead to anyone but Florida and OU (considering we won't learn anything more about OU before we play). Every other team on our schedule has big games ahead of them before we match up.

Pretty interesting situation and I'm curious with your insight on NIL contracts. It's common knowledge UF ponied up bigtime to keep him after last season. Surely teams are protecting against "voluntary redshirts" 4 games in right? How do they typically do that? Because I know you can't structure it as "pay for play" and obviously no player is going to sign anything (even if legal) that is contingent on being healthy. But surely that contract somehow protects against a player voluntarily sitting after a shitty start to retain eligibility and portal out next year. Wonder if he is trying to take the position (via the walking boot) that he's injured and can't play. That might could work for a week or 2 but not the rest of the season. The other interesting issue from Lagway's perspective is that his value in the market next year has surely taken a hit. Of course, if he doesn't trust the offense, I guess he can take the position in portal negotiations that he was never healthy and it was really Billy's offense (rather than his awful decision making) that resulted in poor performance.
  17. Completely agree. We are an afterthought right now. If we play shitty (or god forbid lose) to Florida we won't hear the end of it, but we also will get zero credit for a solid win. I don't really see a scenario where OU isn't the trendy pick heading into that game and dominating most of the talk. Our guys will hear from coaching staff all week OU has been prepping for them for 3 weeks straight (which is true). I like that narrative heading into that game. Of course, need to take care of Florida first.

I assume ABC has the rights to Miami/FSU right? That will almost certainly be the ABC primetime game. I'm guessing Bama/Vandy gets ABC 2:30 and we get the ESPN night game but guess we'll find out tomorrow.
  19. I was watching at the tailgate without sound. How did they reconcile the 2 catch no-catch calls? I thought they should have both probably been a catch but I don't see how both of those were reversed from the call on the field when they look pretty much like the same play. "Sooner Magic" indeed.
  20. Listened to the Sunday Sirius XM show this AM driving back to Dallas. Not much horns talk obviously but they didn't give Arch or the horns much credit for the blowout given the opponent which is fair. But then went on to say how Texas will be fortunate to win one of their next 2. Talked about how Florida is really solid on D and will be tough for us to score in the Swamp. Then talked about how much better OU and Mateer is offensively than Texas is and how OU should be favored. I don't take exception to any of those points independently. But they did not say a single word about the Texas defense. It's kind of amazing how from the national perspective the only story is Arch and our offense (and we've pretty much been written off given the struggles) and everyone has somehow forgotten we have an elite defense.

Never been on a Fri/Sat night but several Saturday and Sunday afternoons. The key is to go when it's not busy and send the kids outside to play and be degenerates (with nobody but kids outside) while parents stay inside and eat and drink. Exactly what you describe in that scenario (my kids are 6 and 8). It's also a solid weeknight place to meet up for a drink and bite. Not many kids around then.
  22. To each their own, but I'm struggling to appreciate the nexus between Texas One Fund/Burnt Ends and Texas Football and MAGA. I appreciate that Texas is a public institution with Abbot largely dictating policy. But like the rest of the country, the players themselves are largely diverse in every aspect including political beliefs. If people are letting politics impact their sports fandom, then what's the fucking point? I would probably just leave the country at that point. Sports is the best release from all this shit IMO. Politics/Trump BS are the absolute last thing on my mind every college football Saturday and very thankful for that. I liked what Dan Lanning had to say last week:
  23. Hey bud, if you want to NFL fan it up and boo your team or throw shit on the field nobody is stopping you. I'll just reserve the right to think of you as a douche and assume you are a poor.
  24. Well yeah, I'm not concerned about Arch or his feelings. I just think it's lame. And you are 100% right, it's NFL fan shit. And I don't think there is a lower class in sports fandom than "NFL Fan". And I never said expecting more from the QB position makes you a douchebag. I was blowing up my text chains last week and will be cussing under my breath at DKR Saturday if it happens again. I said "booing" makes you a douchebag. And I thought the same thing when it happened to Simms and Gilbert. The only entity that should get the boo is the refs after a shit call. But P.S., I also thought it was pathetic when students threw shit all over the field last year if you want to defend that as well.
  25. LOL. The "fans" that boo at a college football game aren't the alumni writing big checks. Give me a break. Those guys might bitch and moan and certainly may not write the next check if they don't like the product, but they aren't 'booing' in the stands with the drunks/poors.
