  2. Not a fan, generally, but I do approve of her husband’s work driving a massive investment in their state’s outdoor amenities, especially for mountain biking. Walmart family members started the investment, but the state is stepping up. Doesn’t offset all the shitty stuff, but credit where it’s due (at least for listening to him). https://arkansasadvocate.com/briefs/arkansas-tourism-economy-gains-law-promoting-mountain-bike-parks/
  3. Someone got a little ahead of themselves on his Wikipedia entry.
  4. Thanks for all the helpful advice on this thread. I finally went to the doctor yesterday and she agreed it was a nerve or muscle spasm issue. I got a pain shot and steroid, as well as a low-dose amoxicillin round in case it was an infection, and after 24 hours on the meds I feel so much better - just have some lingering numbness that I plan to keep an eye on and follow up with dentist if it's not clear by Monday.
  5. I was out of town over the long weekend and began to feel some sensitivity to ice in my lower right gums. By Monday morning, it was hurting pretty badly and starting to radiate into my jaw. By Monday night, the pain was intense, and I was having to ramp up alternating Advil and Tylenol. I got in to see the dentist Tuesday morning, and after an exam he was convinced it was grinding/TMJ. I’ve never had an issue with this before to my knowledge. He got me set up to do a scan for a mouthguard and everything. However, the pain continued to intensify, and by this afternoon it had gotten really bad, radiating through my teeth and down my jaw into my ear. I am having to take four Advil or three extra-strength Tylenol every three hours just to stay functional. I called my dentist back this afternoon and asked if it could be a bacterial infection, and he reassured me it likely wasn’t, and I should stay the course with the pain meds. But this is awful. Any thoughts? Should I push for antibiotics?
  6. Lockwood Distilling just announced they are closing their Magnolia St location and opening a new one on the square in downtown Garland (which is quickly becoming quite a destination). Cool place, so that’s a loss for the FW folks. We visit their Richardson location fairly often.
  7. I celebrate his entire catalogue.
  8. SIAP, but this is … something. I saw these guys referred to elsewhere as “Vichy bitches,” which seems apt. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/26/style/gay-men-trump-administration-republicans.html
  9. I know it’s been said here before, but tigerdroppings makes texags look kinda tame by comparison. From that thread: “The last good black woman was Aunt Jemima.” It’s all just racism out in the open now and no one cares.
  10. Fayetteville PD spokesperson just now: Multiple reports of shootings in multiple locations all around same time; so far, no evidence of any shootings or suspects. Investigation ongoing, but sure sounds like a hoax.
  11. Reported active shooter on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville. Students/staff got an alert and now in lockdown. No confirmation of actual shots fired, but huge police presence around the main library.
  12. Here are UTD’s official estimated costs for an in-state undergrad, living on campus (they have a bunch of newish dorms now), taking 12+ hours in a STEM-related field.

  14. My guess is it will be adjacent to Mar-a-Lago, and he’ll charge a hefty admission price to enter - and make a killing on even more expensive “VIP access” tickets where you get a fake gold-plated tchotchke.
  15. As expected... https://www.texastribune.org/2025/08/21/university-texas-system-faculty-senates-protests-campus-speech/
  16. Whoa, can’t get much closer than that. My kid is in Holcombe and is loving Ark so far. It’s early, but he’s happy with his choice.
  17. But even Gabriel went much more mainstream in the mid-80s with “So”.
  18. Actually, no - Keillor was distributed by American Public Media, an offshoot of Minnesota Public Radio, a totally separate org from NPR (if we are splitting hairs).
  19. Six decades of contributing to what was great about America - educational programs, cultural programs, outreach to underserved communities and amplification of voices who were previously ignored. All gone, and now leaving NPR/PBS and their hundreds of member stations to try and figure out a way forward without a coordinating/funding body. Everyone who voted for this and cheers it can go, well, you know. None of this is making us a better country.
  20. This is worth your time - a real-world example of what the GOP's defunding of public broadcasting is doing (contrary to the "iT's aLl wOkE cRaP aNd NoBoDy lIsTeNs" narrative): https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/29/media/pbs-npr-trump-defund-rescissions-alaska-remote-stations
  21. Big fan of this thread so far, and looking forward to listening to many of the vids above. The best live act I ever saw with horns was Tower of Power - in my case it was Caravan of Dreams in FW in the mid-90s, but they’ve been solid since the 70s. A couple fine examples:
