  1. I feel for Mark. He’s clearly incredibly conflicted about this, and probably a bit worried for his job given the instability in the organization now - but Bob was also being a total a-hole about it as well. I think Mark should’ve hung up at the end of the first segment and just said “hey guys, sorry, I gotta go, I look forward to chatting next week.” The fact that he chose to come back and spar with them some more doesn’t reflect well on him, or really the Ticket guys either.
  2. Last week I was having one of the best road rides I've had in ages, with the wind at my back and just feeling locked in. I was about 13mi in (lucky 13, I guess) when I swung wide to go around a parked car, hit an uneven patch of pavement and went OTB. I skidded along the pavement and came to a stop. No broken bones, but bruised my hip and wrist and skinned up my knees really badly (and tore up my gloves, too - glad my hands were protected). Approaching 50 I'm realizing I don't heal as quickly as I used to - I've felt surprisingly stiff and achy. Went on a short ride on my MTB last night around the neighborhood last night (first time since the wreck) and didn't die, so I'm ready to ease back into it. Gotta get the road bike checked out before riding it again, as it got beat up.
  3. The documentary he made about his career and cancer journey is worth watching. Apparently though he survived the cancer (albeit without the ability to talk afterwards), it was pneumonia that got him.
  4. He was a Bernie Bro who ended up having enough Trump-adjacent folks on his show that they convinced him to endorse Trump. He’s generally suckered in by whoever was most recently in front of him, as he “just asks questions”.
  5. This TCU-ND game is really good.
  6. Why? This seems like a pretty decent take with a good read on the situation.
  7. This. Similar situation with 90.1 KERA which had its first 12+ #1 book recently and is now consistently among the top stations in the market. The station is doing well and is to be commended, but their live news and discussion format is more of a draw than stale commercial music formats that are far less enticing than Spotify, Apple Music, etc.
  8. Squeezed in another ride this am. Had some trail friends peering down at me along the way.
  9. Hoping to revitalize this thread: I spent the last few days riding in Bentonville and surrounding area. We stayed right off the Back 40 Loop in Bella Vista on the state line with Missouri, so it was my first time riding these trails up here - they are great, although definitely keep you on your toes as they are mostly carved right along the edge of ravines and have a lot of up-and-down getting in and out of them. I also spent a chunk of the day yesterday riding at Coler for the first time. It is worth the trip, but looks like it’s sustained a ton of damage from the storms last year. They have cleared the trails, but there is tons of treefall piled up on either side of them, particularly in the higher areas. The Airship Coffee location right in the middle of the preserve on the trails is fantastic and was crazy busy yesterday. Lastly, I’m looking at upgrading my whole drivetrain to the SRAM NX Eagle Dub to replace the worn-out entry level Shimano that I have now. If anyone has experience with that groupset, I’d be curious to hear it (the videos and reviews I’ve seen are positive).
  10. This is really wild - billionaire Monty Bennett suckered a bunch of Dallas-area education bigwigs into signing on to help a new nonprofit, the Dallas Education Alliance - which turned out to be a front for a push to start a right-wing charter school that would benefit from a new state voucher program. Those folks fell all over themselves distancing from it when they found out. https://www.dmagazine.com/frontburner/2025/03/monty-bennett-is-secret-mastermind-behind-dallas-charter-school-group/
  11. Abbott gets a very long profile in the March 17 New Yorker (published to website today). Worth your time, though it’ll likely leave you ragey. https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2025/03/17/the-unchecked-authority-of-greg-abbott
  12. Nothing against you for posting this, but I’m so tired of BTC, Occupy Democrats, etc. posting again and again with “TOTAL TAKEDOWN OF TRUMP”/“REPUBLICANS EXPOSED”/“MAGA RIDICULED” kind of shit. It’s just fodder for the base, and doesn’t tell the real story, which is that the current admin continues to do pretty much whatever it wants and no one is mounting an actual effective effort to stop them. It’s just hopium.
  13. Cross-posting from Elmo thread. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/03/06/trump-cabinet-musk-025093
  14. The cracks finally starting to form? https://www.politico.com/news/2025/03/06/trump-cabinet-musk-025093
  15. I'd like to hope the Tarrant chamber of commerce GOPers will give him the Robert Morrow treatment, but I doubt that will happen.
  16. I'm not one to defend the admin in ANY way, but I read a long thread with a bunch of pilot comments. Their consensus was that this was a runway incursion by the small Challenger (who likely got a hold-in-place from the tower and kept going anyway), and the 737 pilot did exactly what he/she was trained to do and immediately lifted back up. Unless we hear otherwise, this was not likely a result of FAA staffing, etc.
  17. The White House just announced that, after many decades, the White House Correspondents' Association will no longer be in control of the presidential media pool and that the administration will now determine which journalists get access to media avails. So be prepared for a swath of actual fact-based legacy media to lose access. https://www.politico.com/news/2025/02/25/trump-white-house-press-pool-access-00206001
  18. Worth your time. https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2025/02/24/musk-doge-usaid-cuts-dc/
  19. Many major media outlets are actually doing a solid job right now of doing real, actual reporting on the insane actions of the current administration. Personally, I don't want Occupy Democrats, etc. in my news feed - their framing is just as bad as Fox News in many ways but on the opposite side. And really, any attempts to launch a mainstream left-leaning network of opinion programs for a mass audience that is the exact inverse of Fox News (like Air America, and to some degree, MSNBC) have not been able to build a large, consistent audience - because most Democrats ACTUALLY WANT TO READ REAL FACT-BASED NEWS. But I do not disagree that (1) fast-shrinking local and regional media coverage due to the decline of newspapers and magazines has had a terrible effect on our country's understanding of current events, and (2) Fox News (and the right-wing ecosystem it has helped foster) has done potentially-irreparable harm to our country.
  20. Let's gooooo
  21. Hartman is the SNL GOAT for me - as multiple people have said, he elevated every skit he was involved with, either performing or writing. He was also stellar on late-night appearances, especially Letterman. The 1994 appearance at 1h18m in this vid is my favorite. I am still legitimately sad we were deprived of many more years of him doing his thing.
  22. Wasn't sure where to put this, but it seemed appropriate for this thread: Neiman Marcus is closing their flagship Downtown Dallas store after a century. https://www.dallasnews.com/business/2025/02/18/neiman-marcus-closing-downtown-dallas-store/
  23. In another thread over on TexAgs this week, a regular poster was lamenting the loss of contact with their daughter after she got into a big fight with them over politics - but really, it was because “she chose the gay lifestyle” and they were spending all their time trying to beat her over the head with scripture and pray the gay away. A few replies pushed back about unconditional love and trying to be accepting - but the majority were in agreement with the OP. The tell was how many of them also admitted to being estranged from kids or other family members - all because they were being assholes and could never admit any other non-far-right-wing viewpoint was valid.
  24. Dude, Bonnie Raitt at 75 outclassed pretty much everyone else who’s been up there tonight.
