I can see moving patients up - ala, some Hallmark movie of a dying kid, but moving people back?

Bribery seems valid.  Follow the money.  Of course if you have deep enough pockets, could you go abroad?

Moving someone down is effectively moving someone else up. It doesn't mean that he's taking money from the patients moving up, but rather he thinks they are better candidates. I'm sure that doctors can believe they are smarter than the predetermined rules (and they may be right) but its dangerous to act on that belief.

Looks like he had a bit too much McDonald's for lunch.

Trump is getting skinny assuming this wasn't photoshopped.

  3. Interesting article about the oil industry using fracking techniques as a method to generate electricity via geothermal process.

I wonder how this plays out for mineral rights. I would have to think that mineral right holders would be left in the cold. I don't think they own the underground heat but I also wouldn't be surprised if they somehow already carved out laws that would still allow them to benefit.

    What a twist!

Murder charges have been filed against a man who police say was behind an elaborate scheme that turned deadly to obtain immigration documents, according to records.

William Winfrey, 30, is charged in connection to the death of his accomplice, Rasshauud Scott, after a staged robbery ended in gunfire, according to police.

In a surveillance video from the gas station, Scott is seen running up to a couple at a gas pump and seemingly robbing them of their belongings.

The suspect then tries to run before being fatally shot by a bystander from a red car who witnessed what police believed was a robbery.

Investigators said that the crime was put together for the alleged robbery victims to obtain U-visas. Officials said the visa would allow them to qualify for work permits as the case is being resolved.

That's because the visas are set aside for victims of certain crimes who have suffered, according to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

Several text messages on Winfrey's phone revealed that he was involved in the planning process, along with the victims and Scott. It was also discovered that Winfrey and Scott staged other robberies last year that resulted in the alleged victims obtaining visas.

Staged NW Houston robbery: William Winfrey charged with murder in accomplice's death over made-up plot to obtain immigration visas - ABC13 Houston

That is a wild story. Winfrey now will get the visa he wanted, except it will be for Huntsville-only and then he will get deported to wherever he is from.

  5. SJL is horrible and an ineffective legislator. Perhaps she helps out her district from behind the scenes but I doubt that is possible because she would be bragging about that on TV.

Where she appears to succeed is with her personal relationships. It's how she can get the Clintons or Pelosi to campaign for her, sometimes even in person.

  6. I don't have a medical background so I'm unsure if I'm interpreting this correctly. Is it saying that a single PSA blood screening test doesn't change the mortality rate? If so, I thought the PSA screening main value was identifying drastic changes in relation to previous years' numbers.

Stormy Daniels hush money trial for election interference in NY State.

I know it's hard to keep up since he's got so many legal issues.

Rumors are that Trump’s legal strategy will be to fire his attorneys before the start of the trial next week in hopes of creating yet another delay. Most likely his attorneys are behind it. Hopefully the judge calls bs and doesn’t allow another delay. Of course, if the judge rejects this move, those attorneys will request an opportunity to appeal that ruling.

  8. The main risk that RFK poses for Biden is if RFK only focuses on the states where Biden has a small lead. Then he could look to find a way to steal votes from Biden by being the "none of the above" candidate.

EDIT: You know there are a certain percent of voters who will take the unknown over the known. For example, look at the For-Brexit voters who were in shock when Brexit was selected by the voters. For some of them, it seemed like they only wanted to express their opinion against the status quo. They really didn't want Brexit to happen. I'm basically describing idiots. And it's always important to remember that half of Americans are below the median intelligence.

So people understand in terms of the lighting given off by an eclipse (even with clear skies) it’s going to just appear like a semi-overcast day right? It’s not going to be anything close to dark or pitch black? It’s an amazing amount of hype for something that’s going to underwhelm pretty much everyone.

I've seen it described more like short-term twilight not overcast, in terms of light.

I'm thinking the opposite on the bigger cities vs. some random rural road. It seems like people coming from further east will be going to bigger towns. I'm in Nacogdoches and have been planning on going almost due west to find a spot along 287 on the other side of Palestine. The path of totality looks to cross this area 10-15 miles west of Palestine on 287.

What's the consensus, a bigger city like Tyler where they have better infrastructure or a more rural place where there should be fewer people? My plan has been to find somewhere in the red circle that has a larger shoulder where we can turn around and be pointed back to home and safely watch from the side of the road. Will areas like this be all jammed up too?

one thing to consider is eclipse duration. You can zoom in more on this page (https://eclipse-explorer.smce.nasa.gov/) but here is the basic durations. The closer to yellow line, on your map, the shorter the duration.

No burn intended. Your comment just doesn't make any sense to me. Teachers don't start over because kids miss a few days here and there. Students missing <10 days out of a year isn't going to cause schools to not "work" or be "worthless." That's just ridiculous.

hobbs and hobbes - you're putting words in my mouth and validating by the other agreeing that I said it. I don't understand why you don't move on. Have fun on your once in a lifetime trip to Hawaii.

I don’t think he’s trying to burn you. He’s just asking because you seem to think the teachers start over because a kid is out of school.

I don't know what teachers do when kids take vacations during the school year. It wasn't a thing when I was in school. and I'm not talking about college. Of course some colleges and even a couple of my UT classes had mandatory attendance. It was rare at UT but not unheard-of.

Both of my parents were teachers in secondary and college level so it was an impossibility for my family to take off during a school year. But I have zero recollection of any classmate doing so outside of illness or a death in the family. Christmas and Spring Break were vacation times along with summer. It would have been an unexcused absence where you most likely received a 0 for missed work. I realize I'm old but that is how it was. Sorry if my experience doesn't match yours.

Your statement is just very perplexing. Were you homeschooled? And I don't mean that in a negative way. I just have to assume that someone that thinks a kid missing class means the teacher starts the lesson plan over lacks some common life experience and perspective on how schools actually work.

ohh burn. Nope to the homeschool. Unlike most UT students (at the time), I went to a small, poor Texas ISD with a single high school.

FYI, the term homeschool didn't exist when I was in junior/high school. Those were called dropouts and in my town, they went to work. For elementary kids, the only alternative that I was aware of was a few religious based private schools. The main one being an hour away.

I bet the folks running the county beg to differ. I need to dig up an article about a county like that where a single family runs the county and all the oil money that flows from it.

Yes I recall those stories as well. Basically a family/group run the entire county and bring in relatives from Dallas, and other cities, to vote.

     Stupidity Are You Stupid GIF

You think lesson plans start over every time a kid misses a class? You have in fact been to a school before, right?

you really butt hurt that I called out your Hawaii vacation?

In fact I wasn't even calling you out, but there must be some underlying emotion that you're feeling about the trip and your kid missing school. You should have that checked out.

You think school doesn't work if kids miss 5 days?

If one kid misses 5 days? No. If random kids are out every week? Yes. I don’t see how new lesson plans are taught if the teacher constantly starts over.

Kid missed 5 days last year for a trip to Hawaii because he was the ring bearer in a friends wedding.
Not going to have them miss out on potential once in a lifetime things like that because they need to practice writing their spelling words.

Not an attack on you but I don’t see how K-12 grades work if there are always kids out of school for non-emergencies. Or has school become completely worthless and now operate only as babysitters?
