  1. We're talking about the guy that called the governor requesting that the " National Guard "shoot to kill" rioters " So yeah, that would be a horrible client.
  2. Found an article from the other day. Judge agrees Houston mayor’s action was unconstitutional but denies restraining order based on technicality I'd love an explanation of the 1st amendment issue - the contract gave Houston an out in case of a pandemic. Bro, we gots a pandemic. I guess maybe today's rehearing is because Dickey and the Texas GOP joined the lawsuit after the SCOTX told them no on theirs? I just don't see how anything changes and this one doesn't get denied as well.
  3. Texas Supreme Court rejects challenge to Abbott’s pandemic powers Sounds like the justices disagree with the Governor's orders, but state law says they can't do a damn thing about it. Womp womp.
  4. Uhm, apparently they still want an in person convention and are trying to get a TRO against Houston to hold it there. "Federal Judge Lynn Hughes has granted our Motion for Reconsideration in our petition for a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) against Mayor Turner for banning a live Republican State Convention in Houston. After problems developed trying to host a digital convention, the Republican Party of Texas (RPT) Chairman James Dickey decided it was in the best interest of the RPT to joint our petition for this TRO against Turner. We are grateful to Chairman Dickey for his decision that both he and the RPT would join us a plaintiffs." Hearing was at 2pm today, no word yet that I've seen. Steven Hotze might be the dumbest motherfucker around, and that's saying a lot in a state with Danny Goeb as Governor Lite.
  5. What happened to him? His wife is a smoke show.
  6. We had a few scares in my department, we've had a number of infections company wide (we're in Texas, Cali, Washington, NYC, Chicago, NJ, etc) and a couple of deaths. Couple of weeks ago they told us to not discuss anything about Covid scares, testing, infection with anyone else in the company. Yeah, good luck. Thankfully I work from the house, most of us do now, so I don't have to worry about the cleaning part.
  7. Since the rumor around the capitol is that he wants to primary Abbott and become governor anyways... why not do it now? I think the problem may be overplaying his hand, though. He becomes governor, opens things up 100% like they seem to want, and it becomes a bigger shit show than it already is. I think his best strategical move is to get them to not impeach so he doesn't have to actually do anything in regards to Covid, which means he'll probably push ahead full steam.
  8. Yeah, the May 12th letters removing local control from municipalities was one of the worst moves ever. And the whole haircut barbie episode where he got upset that his own executive order allowed the jailing of violators - f off dude, you put it there, don't get upset when it gets used.
  9. Talked to my buddy in the Senate. He doesn't think impeachment is on the table yet. He also thinks if anything is announced tomorrow it'll be on a county by county basis, depending on cases and hospitals.
  10. I mean, we did have multiple county parties (at least 6) censure him. Impeaching him is just the next step. So that is a state senator, that wants a special session to second guess Abbott.
  11. I think if Greggy does try any more shut downs, the legislature might work their way towards an impeachment. Since we aren't in session, it would take either: Proclamation of the speaker following the submission of a written petition signed by at least 50 members of the House. or Proclamation signed by a majority of the members of the House. There are 150 members of the Texas State House. I think the House might actually try and get to that 50 member count. 83 Republicans, entirely possible they could get 50.
  12. I'm hearing this Friday thing from a few places. What do we think he is going to shut down? I think a good start would be closing restaurants, or only allowing spaced out outdoor dining. Closing amusement parks, rivers and beaches - those last 2 are safe, by themselves, it's everything else around doing them that's the problem. The outfitters in NB have pretty much maintained their business, just with less expense to them now as they charge the tubers to park and then tell them to figure out their own way back - either pay to park a car at the end at some other outfitter, or something else. Schlitterbahn - they are trying, but there's no way to make those lines safe. The beaches? Nueces County is doing great in their number of cases if you like hockey sticks.
  13. Temporary Beach Curfew for all beaches in Nueces County until August 1 The title is a bit misleading, hiding the lead of: Which means, beach closed, basically. You can go walk and run and walk out and get in the ocean and swim, but when you come out, you best be standing. Though no sane person would travel to Texas' #1 hotspot Nueces County at this point, so it's somewhat moot.
  14. Corpus Christi Beaches Expected to Close Again It's 1 day, but 605 cases would put them a bit under 200/100k population, that's the #1 hot spot in Texas and it aint even close. Victoria was 2nd highest with a 100/100k population 7 day average. I can't imagine any sane people wanting to travel to Port A/Corpus right now, but my wife read me a post on a mom's FB group about someone wanting dog friendly accommodations down there so they could go to the beach. Also, a FB friend of hers just had to travel to "her happy place" for July 4th. Strangely her 2 daughters started throwing up this weekend, having headaches and high temps. Pull out the symptom book for the rona: check check check. She took them to the doctor yesterday and doc was like yep, you got the rona, let's swab and confirm. Covidiot. Here's their slides with daily counts from yesterday, I bet today's exciting also.
  15. I'd love to know where that graphic started. Every covid denier has now posted it on social media. Also they all started using 'played' or 'playing' in posts, where did they all get that word suddenly?
  16. I think Lockhart ISD had the right idea, at least for their district. They are using 3 existing towers and building 4 new ones to provide fixed wifi to their students. I know the solution won't work for all districts - you'd have a tough time getting all of gigantic Comal ISD covered with fixed wireless, but dang if that aint the perfect solution for them. Supposed to be ready by the end of July. LISD to provide internet service to all students countywide
  17. Our son is preparing to go back to A&M. He already knows that all clubs will be virtual meeting, no in person allowed. He knows that at some point he'll probably be back home just like last semester but is going to introduce himself to profs and at least try and do some in person classes. He has one POLS prof that was adamant about wanting to do online classes only due to a number of health issues - of course he is teaching in person, for now. Our daughter is a HS senior. I Think we are are gonna try and send her back, but who knows until it actually happens. Edit: Wife teaches preschool. They got a big ol email from their principal today about various things. One thing is that their board voted to require tuition, no matter if they are in person or virtual, so she will have to figure out how to teach 2 year olds over a computer instead of what she did last spring which was zoom meet a couple times a week and read a book. Now how a 2 year old learns to share and interact with others over zoom, beats the F out of us.
  18. I sometimes see some. There's a group here that started a facebook group 'Keep X Open', which in theory was about keeping businesses open - so if we all follow the recommendations and the numbers go down, then businesses can reopen or stay open. But then it turned into an anti mask group and then devolved into talking about BLM, ANTIFA, statues. They couldn't maintain a focus on keeping businesses open or even not wearing a mask. They even held a pretty protest on July 4th downtown, sans masks.
  19. Texas Supreme Court denies Texas GOP's appeal to hold in-person convention this week in Houston From the Chronicle article: " In an unsigned “per curiam” opinion, the court ruled that while the Texas GOP has the constitutional right to hold a convention, “those rights do not allow it to simply commandeer use” of the George R. Brown Convention Center " " “Houston First’s only duty to allow the party use of the center for its convention is under the terms of the parties’ agreement, not a constitution,” the opinion stated. "
  20. I LOVE live music. Like, I literally publish a daily music calendar for events in my area (and now livestreams that I find). I used to go to live music probably 3 times a week. Work at a large music ampitheater during the summer. Haven't gone to a single thing since spring break. Last time I was even close to sitting in a restaurant was on the deck at Lone Star Float House about 2 months ago, that was our 2nd sit down in a restaurant since spring break, the other being 3 days earlier at the same place. Everything else I cook and maybe every 2 weeks get a togo family meal. In late March, bought the above mentioned white trash pool. That thing has helped keep my sanity. If it wasn't for it, ehrmagherd. If I can do it, anyone can. But people are pussies and would rather fight about death numbers and wearing or not wearing a mask, when if you just stay home, it makes it all easier.
  21. Schlitterbahn's about the same. They have just the new side open, limiting the number of entries, but they don't seem to have found a way to police the lines on the tower, so that's just a germ fest.
  22. Probably the wrong post to put this on, but whatever. Backstory: My wife has a sister who isn't all there mentally, like - she says shit that just doesn't line up. Sister also has MS, which may be part of her mental issue, and so she's immunocompromised, so getting the Rona probably would end poorly for her. She started randomly falling about 3 weeks ago, requiring ambulances or Baptist church friends each time to pick her up. She finally got an appointment with her MS doctor and they are trying a new steroid, seems like she may be a bit better on the falling. At one time they were going to put her in outpatient rehab. My wife's mother had to go up to stay with her so the BIL could work and call someone to pick her up off the floor if she fell. She came back here and we put her on a 2 week no visit rule since she left her nogerm bubble. My nephew is big into Royal Ambassadors. They were doing camps around the state where the same counselors would go to each camp. He returned home at one point when my SIL and MIL were there, so that's not great. His group of counselors was so excited that they were going to some camp in Medina, but it got cancelled because nobody else wanted to go (I guess there's a pandemic going on), so what do they do? Drive to New Braunfels and stay at my MIL's house! Mother fuckers. We were already on a 2 week no visit due to her visiting with the nephew up at his house. We didn't know they were coming until the SIL posted about how much they enjoyed Freiheit burgers last night and then the MIL called for the key to her HOA pool (she rarely ever goes and if she does it's with us, so the key stays on the pool bag, which hasn't been used this year because I put up a white trash pool so I didn't have to go hang out in public). I'm am beyond pissed at my brain dead SIL for even putting the MIL in this position where 2 church vans full of teenagers that have been around the state came to stay in her house. We've always joked that the MIL seems to dumb down when the SIL get's involved, I've pretty much now got proof. So, diabetic, cancer survivor, somewhat decentish health, MIL is now on a 2 week no fly starting today. I have a beautiful seasoned tri tip that has been waiting in the freezer but she keeps making questionable decisions and gets put in time out, so tri tip will just wait for another year I guess. tldr; My SIL is retarded.
  23. Word on the streets (or at least in the Capitol) is that Goeb is gonna take advantage of this and run for governor next time. Which means one of those 2 will be losing a job. And George P Bush is running for Lt. Governor, which I'm not sure is gonna go as well, depending on his primary candidate(s), after he pissed off a large group of conservatives over his handling of the Alamo, which I still can't figure out their reasons to be pissed since they want to make it more like it was in 1836, but I guess change of any kind is hard for some people.
