  1. I would suggest that anyone weighing whether to have kids ask themselves a few questions first: (1) How solid is the marriage? This is important for a few reasons. First, kids make marriage about 5x harder. Suddenly your spouse cannot devote the time and attention to you they did before (and vis versa), and both parents will sometimes be prone to feeling like they are spending all of their time doing things for other people (i.e., the kids), which can lead to resentment issues. Second, once you have kids, you are a more locked-in to the marriage. While they would probably never admit this out loud, I have friends who I suspect remain married more for the sake of their kids than anything else. You don't want to be that person. (2) Do both people really want kids? Seems obvious, but sometimes one spouse essentially agrees to have kids (or additional kids) to make the other one happy. Someone can grow into a good parent even if they did not want kids, but this could also lead to resentment or one person simply deciding to be a less active parent. (3) How much do you (or your spouse) drink? This one may come off as too judgmental, but I think there is a conflict between heavy/regular drinking and parenting young kids. Parenting takes a lot of time, attention, and patience (including early in the morning), and it seems extra difficult for the types of parents that needs multiple glasses of wine every night.

ESPN lists McKennie as starting Juve's Seria A opener today. I guess the injury keeping him out of all those preseason games was not as serious as previously reported.

  4. I actually like a lot of the food in OK. Fried onion burgers are awesome. Indian tacos are great. My favorite place for CFS is in OKC. And I even have a soft spot for Braums.
  5. Last year kids hat it a lot easier in July.
  6. PSA: If anyone is in the market for a strat, this is being auctioned off in Austin soon. Guessing not many guitar players look for gear at antique auctions . . . so could go for good value. https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/131885962_fender-stratocaster-rare-color-fender-custom-shop
  7. I wouldn't say PRS are ugly . . . but it's an aesthetic that does not appeal to me at all. The flame tops and fancy inlays are all too much of a maximalist aesthetic for my taste. I imagine the target market as the type of boomers that buy big houses in the burbs that are designed to look like French castles or Italian villas. Not ugly per se, but not something I (or most people under 50) want to own.
  8. Super interesting chart, but I have to think urban heat island effects have some influence on Camp Mabry temps over time. Texas is getting hotter for sure . . . but for the sake of my own sanity I have to believe it is not quite as drastic as depicted here.
  9. This is probably true. Julian Lage is one of the best guitar player out right now, and plays with levels of touch, subtlety and musical sophistication that someone like JB could never approach . . . But it goes under the radar because it’s jazz.
  10. JM has sold tens of millions of albums and has a bunch of Grammys. He is one of the biggest pop artists of the last 20 years. He has no problem writing “commercially successful material” … its just that most of it is pop that doesn’t highlight his guitar playing. So a better comparator would be someone like Prince (except that JM’s music has no soul).
  11. It is fantastic. I have the tan version, which comes upgraded with jj tubes and a celestian cream back. Highly recommend it. only drawback is that it only has the top boost circuit, and it is picky about drive pedals. I have a few pedals that sound great on a fender and terrible on the vox. There is a reason most vox guys stick to one of a small handful of drive pedals (Timmy, hot cake, Rat, rangemaster clones).
  12. El Alma gets my vote. Not the best marg, but best one I can think of with quality outdoor seating.
  13. Willie from 73 to 75: Shotgun Willie; Phases and Stages; Red Headed Stranger. He also put out Yesterday’s Wine just a few years before that.

I definitely think 2010 Spain benefited from trotting out predominantly Barca players (with Real players filling the gaps). And Germany seems to be at its best when playing a Munich heavy lineup (like in 2014). Continuity matters.

I really hope we see Busio. If for no other reason, it would be nice to have someone on the field that can strike a dead ball. Aaronson's corners against Mexico were not great. It would also present the option of subbing in Pulisic for Musah if we need a different look/formation. We could play a 4-2-3-1 with Busio and Adams forming the dual pivot and Aaronson playing as a 10, like he does for his club.

    Funk.

Citizens of the universe . . . we have come to claim the pyramids
  17. I have always thought of the Verve as possibly the best one hit wonder ever (though I know they had a few other really good songs that were not hits).
  18. Duesenbergs are usually 25.5". Every one that I have ever played sounded pretty awesome. The styling can be a bit funky and they are expensive for an Asian made guitar, but the quality is great.
  19. I had that same model strat . . . had texas specials in the neck and middle and a SD Pearly Gates in the bridge. I remember seeing an article that mentioned that Sadler Vaden (who always has killer tone) plays pearly gates pickups in an SG.
  20. He is a bit of an enigma. But I think it mostly comes down to him simply not being fast/athletic enough for the EPL, and a lot of teams successfully exploit that. He always looks good in international games, and I bet he would look great playing in the Italian or Spanish league. I don't think he is ever going to be a consistent performer in the EPL.
  21. I used to have one. Never loved it. Could sort of fake the classic fender sound if you turned the mids all the way down, but still wasn't quite there. And I want something lower wattage than that.
  22. I'm thinking of buying a new amp. I want something really small/quiet with a classic fender tone. Currently leaning towards the new 68 Champ RI -- I was able to a/b one against an original silverface champ and liked the RI better. However, those are expensive enough that it probably makes sense to shop boutique alternatives that offer a bit extra (12" speaker, spring reverb, etc.). Anyone have a champ alternative they really love? Tone King Gremlin looks interesting, but I don't think there is a place to demo one in Austin.
  23. I enjoyed the last episode thoroughly. I spent part of my childhood in an area where deer lady stories were prevalent, so that part resonated. And, for all the Letterkenny fans, it was great having Tanis as the deer lady. I'm hoping Wes Studi's character becomes a regular. Between him, William Knifeman and Uncle Brownie, the ancillary characters are really making this show for me.

Good group overall. But I am surprised to not see Cannon, who is always reliable. And I didn't think Bello did enough in the Gold Cup to warrant a call up for this. Strange to only have 5 midfielders -- but maybe it means Aaronson will get some time in the midfield. Hopefully Lletget and Roldan are only used as late game subs.
  25. Meh. These things tend to even out over time. All of the big clubs have had bad stretches. You could have said the same thing about Liverpool during the 6-7 years before Klopp arrived. I think its likely that Arsenal corrects at some point and reverts to the mean (likely finishing 3-5 in the table most years). Similarly, I think LCFC reverts to being a consistent mid-table team at some point, and Spurs is already headed in that direction (and will get there quickly if Harry leaves). And if I am wrong and Arsenal continues to stink for a few more years, then I think there simply is no longer a "big six." Its a pretty recent categorization that only came into being because of the sudden rise of City. Its not hard to imagine that we return to talking about a "Top Four" comprised of LFC, United, Chelsea and City.
