  1. Not wanting an autistic billionaire to take the reigns of the program is not a political take. Hth.
  2. ah, here's the pedo defender showing up to defend sexual assault!
  3. One last question: When doing the controlled burning, should they be operating under the assumption that they will need to account for 80-100 mph winds that toss flaming embers "thousands of feet" in the air? This McDonald's is just a few blocks from my house.
  4. you're the one telling us that controlled burns would have saved the day. burden's on you to show some proof to back that up. I've yet to see any actual expert opine that it would have made a difference with these fires, short of just control burning the entire swath of San Gabriel mountains that runs from Santa Clarita to Big Bear. I guess you could just control burn the entire bottom border (green and black line). Given the serpentine nature of the mountain range, I'd says you're looking at a track over 100 miles. And that's just the San Gabriels. What about the San Jacinto mountain range that also runs along cities and towns? The Santa Ana range? We're talking hundreds of miles of foothill communities at the base of these mountains. Hundreds of miles of this: Is that pretty similar to fixing a levee?
  5. https://wilg.github.io/la-fire-maps/images/1050010040277300.html take a look at this image. See how the entire mountain range that abuts the town is a lighter brown? That's because it all burned. I'm not the "controlled burn" expert like many of you here, but can someone explain how controlled burns in the San Gabriels would have prevented the fire driven by 100 mph winds from reaching the homes?
  6. SIAP. Detailed satellite view of Altadena and Pasadena post-fire. Gives you a sense of the scale. https://wilg.github.io/la-fire-maps/images/1050010040277300.html

  8. Are you trying to say that video shows a man lighting the Eaton fire? Because the Eaton fire started after dark at the base of an electrical tower per multiple witnesses who took photos.
  9. https://pasadenanow.com/main/the-moment-the-eaton-fire-ignited Origins of Eaton fire And here's a really good read on why Altadena is such a special place. Includes an embedded video of a family singing a Catholic hymn together as they stand on the ruins of their home in the smoke. Worth watching https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2025-01-11/eaton-fire-destroys-much-of-old-altadena-an-eclectic-foothill-enclave
  10. My daughter's school held a potluck dinner and gathering last night for our community. 19 families lost their homes. Watching children console other children was beautiful and heartbreaking On a more practical level, can any of you insurance folks give me an opinion on whether it's worth involving insurance on addressing smoke and soot damage inside the house? Or is that asking for higher rates and/or getting dropped (assuming that's not happening anyway.) I went by again yesterday and there's a fine layer of black soot on everything. Already snagged an appointment with one of those disaster cleaning crews for later in the week. Planning on moving back in today and doing basic cleaning - all bedding, wipe down surfaces, etc.

  12. Had to go into work today while my family holed up at our friend's house. Afterwards, Was able to get back into the neighborhood to make it to our house and looks like it's gonna be ok. Inside of house is covered in soot. Guess those winds just blasted it through the cracks in our old ass windows and doors. @Sbbruin so sorry. Heard St Mark's, ACC, and Waldorf are gone. We know 4 Altadena families who've lost everything. Drove into this cloud this morning before work to try and get back home to check the status but turned around bc smoke was so thick
  13. Are you able to get a sense of where the actual fire footprint is? I'm using the watch duty app and it makes it look like much of NE Pasadena, including PHS, are currently consumed by fire? All the way down to Orange Grove Blvd. Certainly that can't be right?
  14. We're now at a friend's in La Crescenta, although they've already got their bags packed in case one pops up near this mountain. I think our house is likely safe from the fire unless an ember jumps multiple blocks of homes and catches us, or the entire area burns to the ground. For Christmas my daughter was given a hand carved guardian angel that sits on her bookcase. It was one of the few things she grabbed on the way out 🥹
  15. We've evacuated in Pasadena. At a friend's house. Getting from the back door to the garage was like walking through a campfire. Never been in smoke that thick. Our house is over 100 years old and has some pretty poor seals on the windows. House full of smoke
  16. Uhh, have you looked north in the last 10 mins? Massive fire in San Gabriels right now.
  17. surely the anti-war president doesn't mean any of this....
  18. yeah, not acknowledging that Trump is a fascist is what the CR is know for. get the fuck out of here
  19. will a fire do? live look at LAX
  20. The good news is that the woman who penned the "Who knew MAGA was so racist" is undoubtedly now receiving 1000x more racism after the article was published. I imagine her inbox is basically just death threats from MAGA at this point. Oh well.
  21. Confused as to how Mickey Rourke got roped into this?
