  2. There's also this problem. Of our own doing:
  3. I went through the area for the first time last week. Rode my bike all the way up through Altadena. Lots of large trucks hauling away shit. But many lots look like the fire hit just last week. Still shells of vehicles in driveways, etc. Many of the lots are now for sale, per Zillow, and looks like some are just choosing to move on. Went to this place a couple of times years ago when we lived closer to Lake/Woodbury. Wasn't too impressed at the time. Perhaps we owe it a visit.
  4. I don't practice in Texas but seems to me there's an argument that can be made for manslaughter. Homicide laws actually do have quite a bit of nuance (per usual.)
  5. What happened to returning all manufacturing to the US? I thought that, and eliminating trade deficits, was the impetus for these tariffs?
  6. So, playing ball is simply them removing the tariffs and then we'll remove our tariffs and we're back where we were before this admin?
  7. What does China "playing ball with us" look like?

Add "makes being transgender a crime" and he'd pull off the Regan 84 map.

Ah, made the mistake of doing it at a private residence instead of the US Capitol.

"Although the survey was conducted prior to Trump’s announcement of a 10-percent base tax on all goods coming into the U.S. earlier this week, the president has promised to implement sweeping tariffs since his presidential campaign. Fifty-four percent of voters, per the survey, said they are against the president’s levies on imported goods while 42 percent of survey respondents said they supported the measure."

    Cable subscription? In this economy?
  12. Foosters replied to Derka's topic in Cloak Room
Yeah, 20-30% of the country will be convinced that losing their money is a good thing. But all the Benny Johnsons in the world aren't going to convince the "independent" or the swing voter that going from "elect this president to save the economy and usher in an age of prosperity" to "actually, you're going to get fucked financially but don't complain" is a winning argument.

Yeah, calling it a "financial disaster" was hyperbole on my part. I came across this article the other day that didn't leave me feeling all that optimistic about the chances of breaking even. But you're right, it's probably not fair to compare to other games when they had to build the infrastructure and venues to host. https://www.cnbc.com/2025/03/30/la-olympics-2028-summer-games-cost-budget.html

I'm also hoping that we can somehow find a way to get rid of the '28 Olympics. Going to be a financial disaster for the city
  15. I got rid of YouTube TV last month. Paying $90 a month to watch like 3 sporting events doesn't seem like a great deal, although will have to re-up during FB season. I bring lunch to work every day, although I don't have access to "wild game" on a regular basis. Leftovers from last night's dinner typically do the trick. I cut back on THC consumption - mostly for health reasons and overall well being, but it saves a decent amount of money a week as well. My issue, that I can never seem to solve, is that there are typically months in which I know spending is going to be higher - summer travel, holidays, etc., and I tell myself that I'll save a lot more during the down times. Of course that's when the fridge needs replacing, the car insurance bills comes due, or the dog has to have some sort of random 1k medical procedure. I'm also guilty of allowing lifestyle creep to run unchecked. I'm making more than double what I was 8-10 years ago and you'd never know it based on my bank account.
  16. "But what if something happens?!" "what could happen to an old fashioned?"
  17. I assume there are tons of witnesses, so should be relatively easy to determine if Karmelo was first attacked by two large guys. If that is the case, then I have to imagine that he's got a pretty decent shot at self-defense, depending on the actions of the other 2, at what point the knife came out, what started the intitial argument, etc. Although I'm not familiar with TX self-defense jury instructions
  18. Between this take and the "well, the economy survived WW2 and a pandemic" it's starting to feel like there's really no reason to criticize or analyze any decisions any administration makes. After all, we'll never know and the sun will still rise tomorrow. Of course, hearing this message from the same folks who blamed Joe Biden for global inflation makes one wonder.
  19. Man, we've come a long way from "this guy is going to fix the economy" to "well, WW2 and a global pandemic also happened in the last 100 years and we survived."
  20. also i think his dick already fell off or something
