The NY Times Magazine today had a very interesting (and lengthy) story about a Russian officer and how he deserted the Russian military. Lots of interesting insights into the corruption of the military, how Russians think, and the just abject suckage of everything on the Russian side of the āSpecial Military Operationā. If you have 30+ minutes itās extremely insightful into how fucked up Russia is. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/09/20/magazine/ukraine-russia-war-deserter.html?campaign_id=9&emc=edit_nn_20240922&instance_id=134963&nl=the-morning®i_id=126775420&segment_id=178500&te=1&user_id=ef676bb5d96b21e35fc214ee034066fa

7 weeks before the election and this guy is golfing? Such a lazy motherfuckerā¦- 2024 Senate Elections
Trump is losing by 25 (?) points in California right now. Honestly the smarter move for Garvey right now is to not get the Trump āendorsementā. (Regardless heās still going to lose bigly)- 2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.
I love the idea of people in Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri or other shithole MAGA states āworriedā that theyāll become California if Kamala is elected. And of course the moron does it while standing on a bluff overlooking the Pacific instead of in front of Skid Row or some other āCalifornia is going to hellā photo op. Just the dumbest people.- 9/10 ABC Presidential Debate Game thread

Meh, that was in 2016 when probably a lot of people thought Trump was an outsider who ātold it like it isā. Sheās not MAGA.- 2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.
That song you mention (Any Man of Mine) is Shania Twain, for whom I had a super gay crush on in the 90s, mostly for the āThat Donāt Impress Me Muchā video since she was an absolute diva. Sheās Canadian and most definitely not MAGA.- S&P+ rankings: Overperformance or overcorrection?

I bet Elmo takes up the mantle. He seems like heād want to be a dictator. (Of course, not for president since heās ineligible thank God.. But for sure as MAGA puppet master.)- 2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.
Spotted on the freeway today. Trumpās disdain of the military seems to have been noticed by many members of that group.- Š ŃŃŃŠŗŠøŠ¹ ŠŗŠ¾ŃŠ°Š±Š»Ń - иГи Š½Š°Ń ŃŠ¹

Itās only 87 miles from the DNC and in a battleground state. I think itās great, and shows the campaign isnāt taking anything for granted. They are out there doing the work every waking second (unlike Sleepy Trumpās campaign).- [Harris+Walz] The 2024 DNC: TURN DOWN FOR WHAT?!

Example #5,673,967 of Republicans trying to disenfranchise voters: Republicans Ask Supreme Court to Block 40,000 Arizonans from Voting in November https://www.latimes.com/world-nation/story/2024-08-19/republicans-urge-supreme-court-to-block-40-000-arizonans-from-voting-for-president-in-november WASHINGTON ā The Republican National Committee is urging the Supreme Court to intervene in an Arizona election dispute this week and block up to 40,000 of the stateās registered voters from casting ballots in the presidential race. Republican state lawmakers say these voters did not provide proof of their citizenship when they were registered and now they should be barred from from voting in person or by mail. ADVERTISEMENT Although Congress made it easier for Americans to register to vote, those federal rules cannot override āthe Arizona Legislatureās sovereign authority to determine the qualifications of voters and structure participation in its elections,ā they said in an emergency appealfiled Aug. 9. The fast-track appeal may signal whether the conservative court is ready to intervene in partisan election disputes. The Arizona Republicans asked for a decision by Thursday because counties will soon begin to print ballots. Arizona Secretary of State Adrian Fontes said the appeal should be rejected. āThere is no evidence of fraud and undocumented voting. The 2024 election is weeks away and acting now to restrict the voting rights of a large group of Arizonaās voters is undemocratic,ā he said in a statement. ADVERTISEMENT Many of the affected voters are āservice members, students and Native Americans who did not have birth certificates while registering,ā Fontes added.- 2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.
Not that this is a surprise but the latest Berkeley Institute/LA Times poll came out for California. Harris 59% Trump 34% Margin is +7% over where Biden was earlier this year. Huge gains among the young, Black, Latino and independent voters. What bodes well in other states: The Berkeley poll delivered another piece of good news for Democrats ā showing that people who donāt belong to a political party and those who describe themselves as moderates favor Harris at significantly higher levels than they did Biden. Moderates in California said they would pick the Democratic nominee by 59% to 31% over Trump. That puts Harris 12 percentage points ahead of where Biden stood in February, the poll found. And among nonpartisan voters, the poll showed a stout advantage for Harris, with 62% of California independents saying they support the vice president, a 17-point improvement over Bidenās standing in February. https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-08-14/poll-harris-and-walz-build-huge-lead-among-likely-california-voters- 2024 Presidential Election Thread - Let's keep the party going.
