  1. Inconsistent with the current stereotype, TT defense was not really all that awful last year. In conference games alone, they finished 6th overall in yards allowed--only 20 yards behind the 4th place finisher. They have everybody back
  2. If it matters, the swimming pool girlies weren't college students but grads. They were however, a tonic for tired eyes.
  3. I notice you're anxious to mention weak sisters he might have beaten, but mention nothing about wins over teams like Clemson, Michigan State, Ole Miss, #4 ranked Cal, Virginia, and Minnesota. Besides, your easy ooc schedule is the sole reason argument holds no water when you look at his overall conference record, 47-33. And that was back when the Big 12 was some pretty strong medicine. I likewise get a kick out of the implication of your posts that not winning a conference championship is apparently the same as going 4-8 or whatever. This as if there are no degrees of success or failure. Seemingly, you either go winless or win the conference title and that is it to you. Also entertained by your criticism of Tech versus A&M. Leach only went 7-3 against them. It's hardly my position that Mike Leach is the greatest coach in football history. There's valid criticisms to be made. But you simply throw all objectivity out the window and it's kind of silly. Btw, he took over arguably the worst power 5 program in the country in Washington State and they've gone from having 2 and 4 win seasons prior to his arrival to having two 9 win seasons and an 8 win season in the last 3 years.
  4. That may very well be what he is known for, but not all perception is accurate. The stereotype is that they weren't, but most of his defenses were actually pretty good by a season's end national ranking standard. A UT fan on Shaggy once upon a time posted those rankings for each year and it was very surprising. Wish I would have saved it. Those really awful Tech defenses came later. He may be known for an 11 win season, but he also had three 9 win seasons and 3 eight win seasons. Certainly not national championship numbers, but more than respectable. First two years at TT he won 7 and surpassed that every year afterward. The cream puff ooc schedule certainly seemed far more the norm for major schools everywhere then it is now.
  5. Well, pretty much anything is possible in recruiting, but my guess is, a switch to UT wouldn't be an automatic deal for him as he seems serious about having what he terms "family" already playing for Tech in the form of Ta'Zhawn Henry and Kesean Carter. Who knows though?
  6. This is such bullshit, it's absurd. Like him or hate him, I couldn't personally care less, but you're denying reality. While an average of 8.4 wins would look really good right now, in his last six years at TT, Leach won 9 games twice and 11 games once, was nationally ranked 5 times at season's end, while going to the Cotton Bowl twice as well as the Alamo, Holiday and Gator Bowls. Certainly not the national championship game, but not exactly "spare" bowl games either.
  7. Came down to Michigan and TT for Potts. Leach tells him, if you get on that plane to Michigan for your visit, no more Tech offer for you. He didn't get on the plane.
  8. Sorry about that. That's the thread I thought I was in. Moral of the story I suppose, never post while on the phone. My apologies.
  9. Texas Tech gets a pair of apparently solid corners today, Alex Hogan from Houston Lamar and Brandon Joseph from College Station. Three stars with 16 power 5 offers between them.
  10. Dude, Leach has been gone nine years. That's a long time.
  11. You might recall Harrell had almost 16000 career passing yards. Crabtree had a little over 3000 career receiving yards. Likewise, GH beat out 5 star juco QB, Robert Johnson, as well as Chris Todd (who OU and others recruited mightily) for the job.
  12. Could not disagree more regarding Harrell. He was a true technician and by far the most accurate passer inTech history. Slice up a defense like nobody's business.
  13. Re Littrell, OC Graham Harrel would be a hit with the fans.
  14. Truer words never spoken. Even as a Dec. grad, Bowman played to rave reviews in the spring. Mature beyond his years.
  15. May have played a role, but I think Tuberville left mostly because it was pretty apparent the way things had been going, he was going to get fired after the upcoming season and with his pal at Cincy, he had an opportunity to get a shiny., brand new contract.
  16. Tech fans killed Neal Brown's first born child? I had no idea. That or it's equivalent is certainly the implication of your remarks. You over exaggerate greatly.
  17. Cincy, Illinois, Kansas, UH appealing? We must have a different definition of the word. Who do you propose hiring that to you would be realistic?
  18. Fair enough, we'll have to disagree on that one. It's hard for me personally to define Beard as "his guy" when he went to great lengths to keep his predecessor. Had Beard actually been his guy a 100%, seems to me he would have seen Tubby's potential departure as a genuine opportunity and do nothing short of actually help Tubby pack boxes. And that retain Kliff decision, a poor one by any objective measure IMO.
  19. A reasonable point. I just feel like Kirby really caught some breaks with those two hires. Tadlock was on the existing staff right there under their nose and in their lap when he was promoted/hired. You no doubt recall KH turned flips doing everything in his power to keep Tubby as news of his interest in Memphis emerged. He failed in those efforts. Even though it's only been a couple of years, Beard appears at this point to be a really solid hire, but it's certainly not as if he was Kirby's guy from the get go.
  20. Wish I could say the same. His decision last year to retain Kliff pretty much destroyed any confidence I might have had in him. Was a no brainer IMO.
  21. Disagree with you regarding TT's chances of being able to get Neal Brown if they want him. Tech tends to pay their head coaches pretty well. Additionally, how many power 5 opportunities are likely to come up that are head and shoulders above Tech, a place he has been before? Illinois, Col, Kansas, I don't think so. Missouri, okay maybe. Your point about not wanting to expose himself to Leach fans is silly. ML has been gone 9 years now. Dont really understand how Littrell is the equivalent of having "given up". He has coached within some better than decent programs and certainly improved North Texas' football lot in life in a very short time.
  22. The world will soon come to an end. An ISU fan talking shit. Year before last was a true rout, of that there is no question. Last year's point differential was 18 points, by no means a nail biter, but by my definition anyway, not exactly "going in dry". While Campbell appears as if he'll be a good coach, it's important not to get carried away. Campbell is 11-14 at ISU.
  23. I'm not sure they want him. I sense very little enthusiasm for a Dykes hire.
