Before the season started, I was laughing at the comical odds of OKC repeating, but I couldn't really argue against it. The NBA record point differential they posted last year was the most telling stat of the season. Nobody really had answers for a fully healthy OKC squad. But after the first couple of games this year watching Wemby wreck shop, I threw some money on the Spurs despite their young age. The rationale was simply that SA has Wemby and nobody else does. He is so unique in the impact that he has on both ends, that I figured he might be a problem for OKC. And honestly, I couldn't come up with many scenarios where any of the other teams would present a significantly bigger challenge to the Thunder than they did last year. They represented kind of the best of the shitty chances to disrupt the Thunder.
In reality, I didn't watch a ton of Spurs games last year, especially after they shut down Wemby for the season, so I was underestimating the rest of that squad. From what I have watched this year, they have a much more impressive roster than I was giving them credit for. A 9-3 record with Wemby sitting out, combined with that 2-0 start vs OKC has me kicking myself for only buying 1200 contracts ($.05). Of course if OKC romps on Saturday, I might get a chance to pick up some more at closer to my buy-in price. Not really a Spurs fan, but I am this season! They are definitely a fun team to watch.
