  1. I'm no historian, but I read some books. My take: 1) Banking. The Old Testament bans the charging of interest, but medieval Europe found a loophole. They all decided it was OK to pay/charge interest between Christians and Jewish folks. Ie King Thomas can't loan money to King Michael, but he CAN loan it to a Jewish intermediary, who then loans it to King Michael. Presumably that's how banking ended up with lotsa Jewish people. We all hate bankers, and lotsa bankers were Jewish. So... 2) The Black Death. I guess the Old Testament has some specific rules of cleanliness. Sweep up stored grain, pick up your trash, etc. Christians fell away from that over time. Then the plague rats come in. Jewish households are unappealing and they move on, leaving their residents unharmed. Said plague rats set up shop in the homes of dirty Christians, they all get plague, they die. Christian survivors can't help but notice their Jewish friends aren't dying. They jump to the wrong conclusion...
  2. (Inspired by Rob Reiner.) So many directors only have 1-2 notes. They're great at action movies, OR comedies, OR science fiction, but can't do them all. Seems to me it's like being a multi-sport athlete. So who's good at it? Robert Zemekis. Comedy, sci fi, horror, character drama, action. James Mangold. Comic book movies, westerns, drama, action. Who you got?
  3. All this business is gonna give Michigan a pseudo Death Penalty. Gonna take 3-5 years to climb out of their mess.
  4. Dude covered a diverse range of movie types. Coming of age, romance movies, comedies, drama. Heck of a range.
  5. Of all the Surly threads that have turned dumb, this one might be the winner. If he thinks he was wrongly fired, he can sue for wrongful termination. (Good luck with that.) Ladder climber or no, his mistress appears to be of low moral standing. Being with a man who is cheating on his wife. No good. It isn't racism. Looking at corporate America, there are plenty of executives who have been fired for the same behavior. Prominent Ohio State podcast says they should go after Kyle Wittingham.

  7. https://www.elevenwarriors.com/the-big-ten/2025/12/160454/michigan-reportedly-commissions-investigation-into-culture-of-athletic-department-following-sherrone-moore-s-firing According to reports by ESPN and The Detroit News, Michigan has commissioned a Chicago-based law firm, Jenner & Block, to investigate the culture of the athletic department due to the many scandals within Michigan athletics in recent years. Jenner & Block began investigating Moore earlier this fall after Michigan received an anonymous tip that the Wolverines’ football coach had engaged in an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. While that investigation initially did not find enough evidence to confirm the relationship, Moore was fired Wednesday after the staff member told university officials that she had been in a relationship with Moore. Moore was subsequently arrested and charged with home invasion, stalking and illegal entry after entering the staffer’s home without permission. In the wake of Moore’s firing and arrest, Michigan has asked Jenner & Block to expand the scope of its investigation to the entire athletic department.

  9. I threw the antibody test on to my semi-annual blood work last June. Came back low for all 3. Got reboosted. Didn't die.
  10. Every hit on Russian energy production drives up demand for American oil just a little bit. Call it Machevelian, but that seems like a good thing for America. If I'm the Halliburton CEO, I'm donating to the cause.
  11. Kershaw is a fine choice. If you want a 100% utilitarian knife, go with Buck 110. I've cut all kinds stuff with mine. Never let me down.
  12. Hardly a revelation. Friggen' Tesla has a great plan. Build an aspirational, tent pole EV brand, then let everyone else draft off you. And sell them parts. Great the charging format standard, license that too. Woulda printed money.
  13. Oracle had a bad earnings report yesterday and Larry Ellison, Brice Underwood's sponsor, is $34B poorer than he was a week ago.
