  1. Iron-on knee patches and not just work jeans. We wore those things to school. Mom made a lot of our shirts, even sweatshirts. She was a craftsman and ngl, my friends were jealous.
  2. “Fat is a choice,” is ostensibly correct but leaves out a lot and is terribly oversimplified. Work 9-5, gym membership, Whole Foods delivery makes living lean a bit easier of a choice than someone who works irregularly and hasta drive across town to buy vegetables. Yes, certainly that person and “choose to not be fat,” but it comes significantly harder. Not gonna Stan for the fats, but the complexity of the issue is far beyond the mental capabilities of most Surly posters. Now I gotta hang up. Personal chef gonna be here shortly.
  3. Those fake ears make a good disguise.
  4. Before the next holiday speak to them 1:1. “My views on healthy living include portion control. That is very hard because of how tasty your meals are. And it is nothing personal when I decline seconds. I know there is always more available to me and I know how much I want. Please don’t pester me about it. I do not appreciate it.” If they persist, you persist to. Raise the sharpness until they stop.
  5. Article goes on to discuss the fixes, but still. Biological humans are holding our own. We can kill more effectively than any robot. https://euromaidanpress.com/2025/04/18/forbes-ukraines-robot-dogs-failed-the-war-test-they-couldnt-hide-from-russians-humanoid-robots-are-up-next/
  6. It's a spoof account; a very good one. I was 4 Tweets in before I figured it out.
  7. The thing that set up that scene was never outdone on the show.
  8. He doesn’t eat until he kneels 30 min. If that kneeling happens only after he passes out for starvation, so be it. Prison rules.
  9. And if you already have FT job, I'm sure they'll hire you for evenings and weekends. Get you some walk around money.
  10. That's gotta be on purpose.
  11. I live in Sioux Falls, a city that has had strong growth for like 30 years. (We are the Austin of the nothern plains.) City government gets most of its revenue from sales tax. 2025 budget was for 6% YoY growth. I presume that growth assumption was a rather pragmatic, as I see our government as pragmatic in general. So we say January sales tax numbers this week. 6% growth budgeted. 0.1% actual. Just January. Folks just tightening up in anticipation of tariff inflation. Woof.
  12. How is it in the summer?
  13. I have friends, college-educated professionals, who have gone all in on this. Historically we have kindly discussed/debated our views on politics and economy. This time we are not. Seems to me the results will be obvious by Labor Day and the best thing is to be quiet and let them witness in person. If the bad things we think will happen...happen, any rational man will recognize it. And any person who does NOT recognize it never will. No point in engaging in conversation then either.
  14. Does the market trade today? Gotta know if I need to preheat my crack pipe.
  15. So TSLA's BoD is gonna ride him all the way down to zero?
  16. I really wanna believe that but I dunno. I read it as the US throwing up their hands saying, "Goodluck, bye."
  17. And Texas gets hot in the summer. I can not imagine how miserable Amarillo is for a 280# man.
  18. Are we EVER gonna get a Star Wars/Star Trek crossover? Would print money come on.
  19. Must be a CR poster.
