What happened was you have a true freshman LG and a back center playing together for the first time.  Both had their first road start in their careers.  Robertson couldn’t block anyone and Brooks basically couldn’t handle any stunts and twists.   When you have a bad OL, try to simplify it.  Instead of having them go backwards and pass protect, have them go forward and push someone.  Except…. We have 1 running back on this entire fucking roster that can run and he’s beat up bc he’s a change of pace back that we have running inside.

Sark gets a fucking failing grade for the offense he has put together this season.  Wingo absolutely terrible.  I cannot believe Sark used him in the same breath as Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams.  He’s a jag that cannot get separation, has shitty hands, and is a shitty blocker.  DeAndre Moore is our veteran WR leader and he showed his poor IQ last night.  Endries can’t block for shit.  He got abused last night.  Arch can’t hit easy crossing routes, looks uncomfortable throwing a simple screen, and is mentally broken from the hits he has taken this season.

This offense is on par with the Charlie Strong/Shawn Watson experiment.  A total failure.  Sark needs to have play sheet stripped of him.  Get a legit OC.  Hit the portal hard.  Every position needs to be open to competition next year.  Get rid of guys that are eating up money like Baxter and Wingo.  You can’t produce? Then see ya later.  This is a fucking business now.  These players leave the minute they get a better offer.  On the flip end, they need to be “cut” if they can produce on the field whether it be injuries or just plain sucking.   And the offensive portal additions were fucking terrible.  Good thing we got Mosley who can’t do shit while teams like aggy got Conception and Craver… guys that can get separation and can catch.   Somehow, in year 5, we have a drastically worse offense than we had with fucking Casey Thompson in year 1.

I can't believe how disappointing Endries has been this year. He's getting replaced by Washington as the season wears on. Mosley is hurt. I'll give him another couple games to prove his worth...... But, it doesn't really matter if the o line can't block. Aggy has the benefit of a veteran O line, like we had last year. If we had gotten the guys they got, they'd by just as frustrated with our o line and QBs inconsistent performance. They wouldn't be performing as well in this shit show of an offense.

But I do agree about Wingo. Those 5-stars and Wingo's 5 stars were not made the same. They got receivers, we got an athlete.

The other issue against Florida was that we had a center and LG who were just physically out-matched, with the LG also just being a terrible football player in general. Brooks is at least not physically out-matched, even if he's still trying to get better at the mental part of the game. That's why it was so frustrating they just threw him out there in the middle of the swamp without any previous game time. I think if they make this change in the Sam Houston game, we probably win in the Swamp.

Ding ding ding. Throwing Brooks out there in the middle of the game without any install practice was crazy, but obviously still better than Stroh. There was always a chance that as long as Brooks has some capability to learn and apply himself, that he would look much better against OU. Aside from learning the plays and calls and such over game week, just talking to Hutson and Goosby and getting their help in preparing and knowing what to do was going to make a huge difference. He definitely wasn't perfect against OU, but I agree, if he started against Sam Houston, he probably looks much better against Florida and helps to give us a chance.

Woof, I missed all the EOSE fun... did not stay the course and sold out mid last year. Have stay true to UUUU and IBRX for better or worse.

Had to take EOSE off of my watch list because I was too happy to triple my money a few months ago. That 3x could've been 7x, and possibly more, but I'm no longer watching it climb and pissing myself off. Profit is profit.

  4. I have seen maybe 15 minutes over two games of Kornet and damn I like the guy already. I had no idea he was so athletic and can actually move laterally. Seems like a few years since we've had a 5 that can move laterally. Harper looks great. I can't believe we still have Sochan and Fox still to unleash. This season is going to be fun. Just watching today was fun. Castle and Kornet and Wemby looked like beasts on Defense.

There's a billion nuances to OL play that I don't understand. There's targeting shoulders with hand placement, reading slants, passing loopers off to teammates, etc, etc. It's a highly technical arena.

However, it starts with being connected to the playing surface. The ground. Building a strong, solid base with your feet, keeping your body mass positioned over that base, and firing your power up from the Earth, through your legs, torso, arms and into your opponent. An OL who's off his feet is just a projectile. He's less than useless, because he's going to trip his own team.

If you were going to draw the best OL player ever, you'd draw Conor Stroh. Massive. The right height. Strong. Everything ready to dominate!

But he won't get his butt down! He plays high, standing straight up and down. He leans over his feet. With his body mass now high in the air and away from his base, a grandma could pull him over. He's beaten by physics. None of the other techniques or attributes are worth mentioning, because he won't stay connected to the ground.

This is killing me to say, because all the potential in the world is right there. Maybe get him paired with a Sumo master for a week or two. Get the feel for what a strong base is and how to use it when an opponent tries to disrupt it. Learn it, and let me see what all that power can do. Otherwise, he's unplayable.

Yep. You're describing that "athletic" thing that the youtube film guy was talking about earlier in the thread. It's interesting that you say he's "beaten" by physics, when there's guys that are (basically) Stroh's size all over the NFL. Their genetics and/or baseline athleticism "beats" physics right back. NFL O linemen are routinely 6'5 - 6'7, but, very few of them are unable to squat down and play/move from that squat position. If he can't do it, it's not necessarily something that can be learned at this age, imo. It is much easier to move a 6'0, 250 lb high school defensive tackle than a 6'3 - 300 lb *athletic* defensive lineman that has the strength and quickness to avoid his hands and rip through a shoulder. Being able to move your feet, while holding strength in the legs, is absolutely crucial. I'm not sure all the potential in the world is there. He's like a baseball player with 2/5 tools. He has *some* potential, but not sure it's enough. He needs flexibility (is the body able to squat down and stay there?), and athleticism (can he do so quickly and powerfully?). Being big is a baseline. I'd gladly take a 6'3" guard if he could stop the man in front of him.

I know Kefferlyn Brown.  She’d be quite welcome on this board. I assure you she’s not right wing.

Same with Rich Reddick in COE. I was a part of his grad program a decade ago. He's great, but feel like the teeth of that program have been filed down since he left. I'm not sure how much influence they'll have on anything in this committee.

  7. Just got back. 10/10. For 3 hours it never let up. Leo was great, Benicio was great, the daughter was great.

The ending song coming after her grandmother said she comes from a long line of revolutionaries earlier in the movie was pretty cool. Nice tight knot on the "American Girl" being born of a distinctly Black experience.

Leo was hilarious throughout. That scene before the dance was great. Him falling/failing to keep up with the carnales was also great.

It seems to me that OL is the one part of the team that is the least amenable to quick fixes via the transfer portal, and no amount of NIL money can fully mitigate this.  Traditionally the best programs have had OL "pipelines" where freshmen, no matter how promising, tended to redshirt and take a year to eat massive quantities of food, work out, and learn the system.  The guys actually playing are upperclassmen who have been in the program for 3+ years.  Even if you can rob an all-star OL from a lolpoor school, he still will need time to integrate into the program to be fully effective.  That just seems to be the way it is

Maybe, but it's not hopeless. Compared to any other unit on the team, O line is also able to benefit from a puzzle piece or two. There's lots of cross training at IOL, and if a guy can play LT, usually he can switch over the RT easily. Getting a solid extra piece may mean a big difference in getting your 5 best guys on the OL and letting them develop now that you've assembled the puzzle. It's also much easier to deal with deficiencies like "this guy is a net positive in the running game, but struggles with pass blocking technique" vs. "this guy is 18 years old and just got manhandled by a 22 year old, 325 lb. monster". One of those can be mitigated easier than the other.

This team isn't soft, they are just dispassionate. There's a lack of any vibe on the sideline or in the game. Everyone in their own world, no one hyping the team.

I distinctly remember the Taaffe interception and how he was getting up and ran over to arch manning and was hitting him in the helmet or shoulder pads with the ball all excited and no one even high fived or patted him. It was fucking weird. Arch acted like he wanted him out of his face. Trying to find it on broadcast and I'll out a clip.

Taaffe is surrounded by 1-year mercenaries and all-SEC guys who we had to "restructure contracts" to keep. And others who were all-SEC preseason but have more game-killing penalties than game-tilting big plays, 5 games into the season. Barron did a lot for this program. Before him, Whittington did a lot for this program. I really like Moore and hoped he'd be that guy this year, but it just doesn't seem like he's quite the player Whittington was. Not sure where else to look for the fire.

And this was being said during the Ohio State game. This isn't a new revelation. Seeing Arch sitting on the sidelines, only down 7, talking to nobody, nobody hyping him up.... It's worrying. This is basic competitor shit. If you're down by 7 and felt like you should be at least tied, you're on the sideline trying to pull out some fire from your teammates........ Or you're just waiting for it to be over.

  10. It always seemed like the offense was the most likely to be a problem, but damn if I'm not completely deflated by our shit defensive performance. Our DT transfers looked like ACC players. Our All American linebackers get zero pressure. I don't know if Burke is still on the team. Guilbeau is always chasing down somebody who just burned him. Nobody to replace Mukuba 5 weeks into the season.

Im sorry Quinn… im really sorry

I'm kinda with you, but also.... Quinn had 3 NFL-ready receivers to throw to and an NFL TE. Arch has a poor man's Helm (the next tackle Endries breaks will be the first) and a bunch of JAGs at receiver. Even Wingo is clearly a third of the route runner any of Worthy, Mitchell or Golden were.

One of my early football memories is attending the Thanksgiving game where Creed performed at halftime. In the middle of their heyday and peak of their stardom. It's used as a meme now, and you can find the clips all over the internet for a cool little chuckle, but at 12-13 years old I fucking hated it. I had their CD on loop, so to hear the same mix and realize that they were half-assing a syncing I got pissed. I think that was when I found out that not all performances are live. It would certainly fit the bill of White America demanding artists that haven't had a hit in over two decades though. Back to the good ol' days or whatever.

The schools took advantage of the lenders taking advantage of the kids.   If this administration is serious about tuition (it's not), that is the only thing that will fix it. Tighten up the money supply, and the rest will follow.  Those assholes fucked an entire generation with the bankruptcy reform bill.

I'm mostly with you on this, but I don't agree that the cause is so linear. Around the same time, and probably in the decade before, our own state government started to drastically cut funding for our state institutions, which caused them to try and find that money elsewhere (tuition). The state government decided along the way that higher education is no longer worth nearly as much of our state funding, and from there, dominoes started to fall. Everything you described also could be called "privatization". They handed over yet another public service to private control in order to line someone's pockets. Capitalism has been gut-deep in higher ed for a bit longer than 2003.

I can probably give some leeway to the argument that university budgets have also inflated over the years, especially in construction & building upgrades and staff.... but there's definitely an argument to be had about it. I don't think slashing budgets offsets how fucked the rest of the balance has become. That's one of those things where I think it becomes a recruiting issue. You better keep up with the joneses if you want to continue to be called a "great" school and public ivy or whatever. But...... that was also a few UT presidents ago and before a regime took over.

  14. Everything is a fucking shakedown to him. "Better access" to funding. Kiss the ring and daddy will let you set on his lap and give you a few dollars. Fucking disgusting. What a joke of an educational system we're going to have. International reputation for academic excellence? Ehhh, if God King says it's ok to teach, we'll teach it enthusiastically, otherwise, what is "knowledge" anyways. Smart people don't like him, so smart is actually dumb and education is gay.

  15. Son of a bitch. Played like ourselves for too long. Always reactive, no real creativity. Just hope Bukari or Uzuni gets behind the defense And can outrun them. And the amount of fucking passing between the back line ...

  16. Maybe Florida isn't a sleeping giant that is just waiting for us to give them a little bit of hope to unlock the 5-star, Top 15 talent that they have all over the field but couldn't unlock themselves without the generous help of By Gawd UT.

Maybe we play a bit conservative, Arch throws for one and runs for one, has a solid, if unspectacular game, and the defense strangles their ass and makes them execute play after play as they try to slog their way to 3 points each drive. I trust Taaffe in center field if they want to go deep. I trust Pete K will be just fine taking away the deep ball and insisting they try to nickel and dime their way down the field. It's kinda what our Defense excels at.

20-13 Texas. Leave Florida with a win and prepare for a better matchup with a healthier WR and RB room ready to unleash some wrinkles.

  17. Speaking of Moody Center sucking shit, I'll be there in a few hours again to see Alabama Shakes. Always wanted to see them live, I'm going to bet that Brittany Howard has less problems projecting through the microphone than Leon.

Was at the show as well.

Enjoyed both sets but Leon was challenging to hear. I don’t know if the mix was intentional…if his voice was shot at the end of the tour so they tried to mask it behind the instruments…but it was annoying.

He has a softer voice anyway so maybe it is what it is but it sounded like we were in a stadium (ala NRG where I saw him years ago at the Houston Rodeo) and not a supposed amazing venue for live music acoustics. The songs without drums sounded much better to me so maybe that was it.

Or maybe this all says something more about my hearing than anything else.

Charley, I think, tries too hard to come across as “cowboy” but I’ve gotten to the point where I look past all that and just focus on the music which I usually enjoy.

I thought the mix was a bit off in general, some of the songs were missing the great bass lines that kinda make the songs, especially the ones from his 2nd album and the Khruangbin songs. Unless the band just didn't want to touch that. It didn't sound great to me either, so maybe your hearing is fine.

I'm right there with you on Charley. That's what bothers me about him, and I'm trying to come around, but having so much family in the RGV and hearing him call himself the San Benito kid when he lived there until he was 9 makes me roll my eyes. His family moved north to Dallas and I'm 1000% sure ain't never been back, a tale as valley as any, but he seems to hang on to any persona he can grasp. None the less.... the music is alright sometimes and I did like his live show.

  19. Got a chance to see the Leon Bridges/Charley Crockett tour last night. Loved Leon's set. I'm a big fan of the funk/soul that he does, and he played plenty of the danceable upbeat songs I was hoping for. Pretty much every non "Beyond" and "River" hit that I hoped to hear was played, including the jams from his Khruangbin collabs. Great set.

Charley is very slowly growing on me, but I still haven't played a full album from him yet, just still haven't gotten all the way into his vibe. Pretty decent performer though.

Hell yeah man.  I'll for sure get the first round.

If IBRX ever hits, I hear Harrison is going to buy the first round of lap dances for the after party.

Been in both UUUU and IBRX long enough to remember the morning that IBRX hit $40+. UUUU is my biggest position, thanks to this thread/Harrison (albeit at less than a fraction of the shares as others here). I just pulled out my initial investment and pondering how long to watch this ride. While also accepting that nuclear energy is a much more safe long-term bet than pharmaceuticals. But seeing IBRX hit $44 and hold it long enough to see it now at $2.65 will do a lot to a man. I think I might lasso in the rest of my UUUU profits in the low 20s.

Vandy should be the concern my dudes. Ball control option offense. Low position game. Sleepy atmosphere if DKR isn’t lit. Could be like the Vandy or Arizona St game from last year.

I am actually looking forward to the Vandy game at home. A month away from home, against a possibly Top 25 SEC team? I think we'll be plenty lit. Pavia is a CFB household name now, I trust our fans to know what we're up against that game. If Vandy goes 0-3 before us, it could hurt the expectations of the game, but it would also tell us a lot about who they really are. So be it, in that case.

  22. That's wtf I'm sayin!!! Uzuni and Bukari tried their best to eff up all our chances in the last 10 minutes, but youth prevails. Fodrey put one in Uzuni's lap and stole the win! Let's go!
