We need to just go ahead and repeal the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, it's embarrassingly hypocritical at this point.
From Wikipedia:
The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977 (FCPA) (15 U.S.C. § 78dd-1, et seq.) is a United States federal law that prohibits U.S. citizens and entities from bribing foreign government officials to benefit their business interests.
Explain how this isn't exactly what our government is doing directly.

Sell for $dollars. Buy replacement for $dollars or $dollars - sales tax. What’s the financial hardship involved here?
I sold my 2021 model Y earlier this year and replaced it with a Cadillac Optiq, it cost me about $27,000. Granted, most of that is because I was getting rid of a 4 year old car and replacing it with a brand new car that is a little more up-market, so someone replacing a used tesla with a similarly aged used electric car won't have nearly as big a financial hit.
The trade in offers I got while shopping were $18k-$22k. Checking my area right now, a 2021 Mustang Mach E (rear wheel drive, standard range battery so a downgrade from the model y not quite an equivalent) is listed for $28k. So that's the financial hardship, $6k-$10k (depending on trade in offer)+ tax and a vehicle downgrade in both range and acceleration.
I'm not comfortable jumping down the throats of people that aren't in position to do that, I think it's shitty and shows a lack of empathy.

The sticker doesn’t let the owner off the hook. It’s getting to the point that pre-doge owners of Tesla have had time to find other options.
You sure are free with other people's money while you're virtue signaling. Not everyone is in a financial position to replace their car.

The thing is - a traditional market model is an extremely poor model for healthcare. If you're sick and at a hospital, you're probably not going to be price shopping between facilities for the cheapest care and least dickish medical coders. People have no choice but to pony up or die.
And wouldn't ya know it, THAT """market""" will bear a shitload of price increases. Because it's life and death. Wow, what a free market lol
The older I get the more I believe that free market capitalism should ONLY ever be applied to situations with low barriers to market entry (lots of competition) and highly elastic demand (price gouging kills the market itself).

I've been playing MW5:Clans and enjoying it. I may be up for a coop campaign after I've finished working through the campaign in single player at my own pace.

What conflicts has the US been involved in recently where the military/militants we were fighting were NOT supplied by Russia?

The Jets had the fewest goals allowed of any team in the NHL during the regular season. It's pretty surprising seeing them get shelled like this, but I love to see it.

I don't understand the concept of being offended. I don't think there's anything that anyone in the world could say that would actually offend me. ...words...i still don't find any of that to be "offensive" per se. those things might make me mad; i might look down on you, or feel sorry for you if that's how you choose to act;
The word used to describe feeling these sorts of negative emotions as a result of what some said is "offended."
These things offend you, that's why you feel angry and self-righteously superior.

Aren't most countries that are hostile to the US already fully equipped by Russia?

I would like to see a method of overriding a veto introduced. Right now Russia is abusing the veto power, using it to lock up the UN while they engage in a war of conquest. The veto power was intended to allow the permanent security council members to protect their national interests, not to disallow UN action while they attack other nations and engage in war crimes.
Some sort of 2/3 vote to override a single veto or similar system, such as what the US uses to override a presidential veto, would be good I think.

I have a feeling that it was your power supply.
Everything is working now with the new motherboard, so evidently it was the motherboard. What a pain in the ass though.
Thanks @immamac for helping with the troubleshooting.

You sticking with B550? Seriously it’s dogshit and will make your processor underperform.
No I did a return for refund and placed a new order for an ASUS Prime X570 to replace it. I can't say I know much about motherboard performance so I took your word for the X570 being better.
-
Well I disassembled the whole thing and boxed up the motherboard. When the replacement comes it'll be fun times repeating the whole build to find out if it really was the motherboard.

I’d try that. Then I’d try booting with only 1 stick of RAM. If that doesn’t work then it’s likely the mobo.
also you may know, but make sure the m.2 slot you use for the nvme drive is the one directly using the cpu pcie lanes not the chipset lanes.
I pulled the power supply, rerouted the cables so they had an easier path (less twisting into place when setting the power supply back in the case) and retried, no luck.
The m.2 card is in the slot between the GPU and the CPU, not in the slot by the SATA ports. Per the manual, this is the slot that supports PCIe 4.0 while the one by the SATA ports only supports PCIe 3.0 and disables several of the SATA ports when in use. The SSD I have is PCIe 4.0. Regardless, I did test booting with the SSD removed and it did not change anyhing.
I did test each stick of RAM individually with the same result, so I don't think RAM is the problem unless I got lucky enough to get 2 bad sticks.
I was really hoping it wouldn't be the motherboard, mainly because I don't want to fuck with removing the CPU cooler and cleaning off the thermal compound from it and the processor.

If it comes on at all the GPU should be fine. Have you tried reseating all the PSU connections on both sides? You should be able to get into BIOS without boot drives.
do you know which key gets you into bios? Have you booted then spammed that?
Yeah I did conclude the GPU was unlikely to be the problem after ripping the one out of my current setup and plugging it into the new build and getting the same results.
del gets me into bios settings per the motherboard manual, I've tried spamming it at startup to no avail. I have tried reseating all the power connections on the consumption side, but have not pulled the power supply out to try reseating all the connections on the supply side. I'll try that next, thanks.
-
Yes, there are motherboard standoffs. About half the time I try to power it up I see the bios logo screen for a half second or so before the screen goes blank again. The monitor indicates it is getting a signal (the power light is blue instead of amber) but displays nothing.
-
Not sure if anyone can help with this, but I've got a frustrating problem with a PC I just built. Relevant components:
Motherboard - ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F
CPU - AMD Ryzen 9 5900X
RAM - 32 GB (2x16) DDR4 3200
GPU - MSI GeForce RTX 3080 12GB
Storage - 4TB HDD (SATA connected) + 1 TB SSD M.2 connected
PSU - EVGA SuperNOVA 1000GT 1,000 watt
Problem: I assembled everything and turned it on for the first time, it briefly displayed the BIOS screen indicating new CPU detected for about 1/2 second or so, then the screen went blank. The post check lights on the motherboard indicate it pasts post check for VGA, CPU, and DRAM (white, red, and yellow lights turn on then back off) but not the boot device (green light comes on and stays on). I have not been able to get it to actually display anything on my screen with the following troubleshooting configurations, getting the exact same symptoms with each attempt:
HDD SATA connection moved to a different slot, HDD removed entirely (so just SSD), SSD removed (so just HDD), RAM pulled and reseated, just one stick of RAM (tried with each stick), graphics card replaced with the one on my current functional computer, cleared CMOS RAM, and replaced the battery of the CMOS RAM.
I also tried removing the graphics card entirely, which resulted in both the POST check keeping both the white (VGA) and green (boot device) error lights on which was expected.
Is my next step a motherboard swap, or is there something else I can try first?

Agreed. You also cannot trust Russia to keep its word. If you negotiate with them now and then agree to stand alone (neutrality) then you're just giving them the time it needs to re-invade you.
44 minutes ago, BabaYaga said:Of course. Just curious if they even bothered to write it down and/or define it?
I just assumed the reason they had vague/undefined and unmeasurable things like "denazification" was so that once the "demilitarization" part of the agreement is done Russia could unilaterally declare Ukraine as non-compliant with the undefined stuff and re-invade with Ukraine's military largely out of the way.

Slightly off topic/slightly on topic.
In very preliminary talks with a start up that is making a pizza robot. It is a modular system takes a pre made crust adds toppings and sauce as ordered and then bakes it.
Would you guys order one?
I think Costco already uses something like this, at least for the sauce and possibly toppings and baking as well. This doesn't sound like something I'd invest in.

I assume you pay your property taxes every year?
This is a discussion about federal taxes, not state taxes. Try to keep up.
The answer is no, I don't pay income tax to the federal government for my net worth increase associated with my house appreciating in value. This is also why Jeff Bezos doesn't have to pay taxes when the Amazon stock he owned before the year started and still owned at the end of the year became more valuable during the year. The same people saying it's unfair that he "gained wealth" that he didn't pay taxes on would be pissed off about getting an income tax bill from the federal government because their local housing market got hot.

It neither supports nor refutes the claim. A tensile strength result relates force to cross-sectional area and does not include weight in its calculation in any way.
