  1. And the airlines aren’t just going to lose just 10% of their flights. Who the fuck is going to choose to fly if there is an increasingly likelihood your flights are going to get fucked? Who wants to get stuck an extra night in Des Moines? Anyone who doesn’t have to fly won’t fly. They’re going to start seeing their bookings fall sharply tomorrow.
  2. Victory bump. Good job Georgia.
  3. "Relatively" is doing a lot of lifting there; Cuomo's numbers look like shit. The only crosstabs he leads in are 55-65, 66+, and living in subsidized housing. That's it. Cuomo is +1 on responders over 55-65 and +3 on the over 65 crowd. I am willing to bet age strongly tracks with native-New Yorker and those born in the US. In other words, if you normalize for age, I'm guessing the correlation would for birthplace would look weaker. The same might be true for subsidized housing - 47% of the households in subsidized housing in Bronx County are 62 or older. That goes up to 68% for 51 or older. That wouldn't cover all the difference, but it likely makes up a lot of it. The biggest thing this tweet is telling me is that some folks are squinting really hard to find something bad for Mamdani in those numbers. And that older Democrats are more conservative - shocking.
  4. It's possible Platner is doing shit that doesn't sit right with this guy. It's also possible that Platner has enough baggage that Wertheimer is worried that it might limit his career. I'm not much for blaming the "Party", as I think it is overly simplistic to imagine the Democratic Party as a bunch of fat cats drinking cognac, smoking cigars, and deciding which candidate they will put up for what slots. But, it's worth noting that until maybe 2019, it was the policy to blackball any vendor who worked for a candidate trying to primary an incumbent Democrat. Putting financial pressures on the people that can support candidates is a way to put your thumb on the scale. If multiple staffers have bailed, it's possible that the word is out that this campaign will not look good on your resume for future campaigns, or for appointments might Dems control in the future. Or it could be that Platner is regularly doing stupid shit that is causing those around him to bail. Either is plausible.
  5. I'm flying SeaTac to a small city in Texas, connecting DEN on the way there and DFW on the way back. I'm bringing lots of snacks, a bottle to fill with water, dressing in layers, etc.. Calling it an adventure. (And I've told my wife that I plan on working until I'm 78, in case that comes up in a damages calculation...worst case scenario.)
  6. One of the interesting dynamics I noticed on Facebook is that about half the Trump apologists are blaming Dems for SNAP being shutdown, but the other half are just attacking the people who need it. The same recycled cruel shit like “get a job” and “don’t feed the animals.” I like this. This is a wedge issue in the MAGA universe. Fucking Senate Dems should not cave. Poor people need to understand that a good chunk of Republicans believe they should starve.
  7. It would be pretty funny for them to ram this through only for Trump to get beat by Obama.
  8. Not apples to apples to what I highlighted there, but Harvard economist Jason Furman estimates that 92% of the 2025Q1&2 GDP growth was around AI investment. (article)
  9. The most common theory is that they don't want to get blamed for the loss of the ACA subsidies. I don't really buy that though. 1) they already voted for the loss of the subsidies, 2) I think they would be willing to negotiate on the subsidies if they really feared the public backlash. My guess is they want something to separate them from Trump's whims. If they nuke the filibuster, then they are the only thing between Trump and new law. If tomorrow, Trump says he wants to wants to build a 1000 meter Colossus in his likeness, they want the Democrats to prevent it from happening rather than telling Trump no. Once the Democrats are removed from the equation, they know Trump will become more demanding. Now, maybe that was a lesson-learned from they way the Big Beautiful Bill was handled to avoid the filibuster, which is how the subsidies were removed, but I don't think there is any attempt to avoid the ACA subsidy removal.
  10. That seems like a good way to end up with $80 worth of persimmons. Do that at Trader Joes and you'll just end up spending $50 to get diabetes.
  11. I found a picture online of Amber Harris with Shane Trejo, and then an article from the Arab News from back in February that quotes Trejo: ...because Napoleon really put France on a great trajectory.
  12. I would guess that 100 people is probably about right for midsize (100MW to 200 MW) data center, depending on the company. Physical security is the biggest job category. You also have IT security, IT programmers, folks that maintain cooling and electrical systems. At a large data center, just pulling replacing old disks might be a 24x7 job. They may also have other functions colocated. The client will also take credit for temporary construction jobs.
  13. There is a paranoia level of secrecy in working on these things. The shell company thing is common for the land purchase and even some early permitting. I hadn't heard of NDAs for elected officials, but it is standard for anybody else involved. My company even had a code word for our client, to avoid accidentally saying their name in front of others who weren't under NDA. I remember after my company had filed some paperwork for the shell company, I would get calls from tech magazines asking for confirmation on the project. (They all knew which shell company equated to what brand name, because of past projects.) But, at some point, the client makes a big announcement about how much they are investing, how many jobs they are creating, and the what community programs they starting. We still can't say shit without them saying it first, but it does loosen things up a bit.
  14. And it is more likely to get snap in rural communities.
  15. Regarding narratives, “first to market” is a huge part of the tech hero story. Normally you could expect some level of caution from established companies. Not with these companies and not on this subject. Second place is just the first loser.
  16. Salt on the wounds: "Amazon shares were up 1.5% to $227.53."
  17. It's behind a paywall. Do you want to change three words and then post it here. It's what AI would do. (Bonus points if the three words you change make the basic premise indecipherable.)
  18. I recall overhearing some dipshits parents talking about bringing their kids to Sleepers. if this whole parenting thing is graded on a curve, I feel I did pretty well.
  19. Yay, there’s a thought process I call “magic AI” which is basically just faith that AI will make everything better. It’s so dangerous because it completely sidesteps any responsibility to address predictable negative consequences. It’s similar to radical Christianity ignoring global warming because surfer Jesus will take care of us.
  20. My issue is that it is a rationalization to justify the end goal. Nobody cares that they are selling fake shit publicly. The majority of the people who deal with the nuisance still oppose the federal government diving in. (Are there any mayoral candidates supporting ICE actions?) It took some rage-grifter youtuber to confront them and then lobby the DHS to get the attention. Because no one fucking cared. It is naive to pretend that the vendor actions are what drove the ICE crackdown. This was not the problem for which people were searching for a solution. The problem is that ICE wasn't meeting its quotas and getting bad press for arresting students, and grandmas, and nurses. That was the problem that drove this "raid." Vance said it outloud when he discussed Springfield, Ohio. "If I have to create stories so that the American media actually pays attention to the suffering of the American people, then that's what I'm going to do." The suffering had nothing to do with eating cats. It had to do with black immigrants existing around white people. That is what is driving the immigration crackdown, not Canal Street. That's why they are arresting students, grandmas, and nurses. And I am sick of the milquetoast rationalizations that imagines it wouldn't happen if we just kept people from selling knock-off purses.
  21. If the ChaptGPT has taught us anything, it's that our government is not nearly as uptight about IP as we once believed. If these idiots had just been billionaires, all this would have just gone away.
  22. Well, and all the people buying that counterfeit shit, knowing full well it was counterfeit shit. It's worth mentioning that four citizens were arrested. People actually from New York, who were around when the shit was going down, and who tried to interfere. Because New Yorkers are more concerned by fascists than fake bags or walking around people on the sidewalk.
  23. Really, I missed the plot because one of them was arrested for "with intent to distribute" tacked onto his possession charge. Note: arrested, not charged, not convicted. Zero fucking evidence and for you that makes him a "career drug dealer" who is moonlighting selling knock-off purses on the street, because that seems logical to you. In the time that I have been on this board and its predecessor, I have "hung out" with some shitstain who dropped rocks onto cars and another who faked cancer. And those are just two that I knew about. You have the confidence of an idiot.
  24. The $/sf doesn't raise too many alarms for me. We aren't talking about a hotel. The facility will need to have security measures that will drive up the cost. That's not just bullet proof glass and reinforced doors; it's supply chain requirements similar to military projects, which is where you wind up with $300 hammers. You can't buy light fixtures that might have bugs in them. Ask the Palestinians about buying pagers. I have no idea what it should cost, but 3-5x doesn't seem crazy in the context of secure government projects. I would imagine they would follow similar construction to embassy builds, but with it being private money, they might look to avoid that red tape. Who the fuck knows. They are insane and there is nothing about this that seems planned out. The comments on the inconsistent renderings is definitely interesting. Maybe the ballroom is one floor with working space above or below. Or maybe they just typed some prompts into ChatGPT to get renderings. Again, who the fuck knows. But they really should have had the basic design agreed to before doing the demo.
