    That Ukrainian media blackout in the Kherson region is a dead giveaway something is up.

    If they launch a major offensive on Kherson (more than what's going on now), Russia will have to pull troops out of the Sveredonetsk area, so that would be some relief there.

    they're already pulling troops out of Mariupol to head east.

    As far as Kherson - good video from a dude I follow:

    Rostov-on-Don borders Ukraine, so it's not that deep of a strike, but it's hitting infrastructure in Russia proper, that Russia needs to support Crimea/Kherson/etc.

    Also, misidentified drone - it's a Ukrainian-made drone.

    Very nice hit, definitely did some major damage.

    I’m sorry but I have to jump on this.

    This seems to be a growing sentiment and I’m not questioning it; I’m denying it entirely.

    Richard Nixon had been told repeatedly by Senate Republicans in the wake of all the Watergate exposures and when impeachment proceedings were about to commence that they had enough votes to convict and convict they would. He had no chance to survive.

    Now, if you want to credit those Senate Republicans for actually taking a half assed principle (more on that in a minute), ok fine. And yeah even a half assed principle is considerable compared to what these current degenerates have.

    In any event, Nixon resigned precisely because he was going to be removed and he was told so. Giving him credit for making that decision is like giving credit to Bob Livingston for “falling on his sword.” No, that man resigned because Larry Flynt had told him he would release all the lurid details of his marital infidelity if he didn’t.

    Sure it gives to the general public a facade of integrity and it lets the perpetrator step down with some “dignity,” but in the end it’s all for show. Nixon was a monster. Period. If his party was littered with the kind of degenerates the republicans are known to be today, he serves out his entire second term.

    it was also over 6 months after the release of the tapes before impeachment proceedings began - and even then the initial recommendation on the judiciary committee was a party line vote. It really wasn't until Haldeman and co were indicted that the momentum started to swing to removal.

    This is a great post and why I still think Nixon was worse than Trump. Trump is narcissistic and gullible. Nixon was smart, cunning, RUTHLESS, and incredibly paranoid.

  5. I can't find the tweets now but although things going well in Kherson for Ukraine it appears the Russians have made some significant gains in the Donbas in the past hours and Ukraine is in full retreat. Keep in mind this is where Russia has gone "all-in" with their offensive. Both sides have suffered heavy losses there.

  6. Another long video from Perun - this time covering the economics of the war.

    Some interesting tl;dw points:

    1. Russia making a killing in the short term due to skyrocketing oil and gas prices even though they are selling less. Even then the oil they are selling to places like India is at an extreme discount.

    2. Russia's propping up of the Ruble may be bad longer term (makes their stuff more expensive - especially if they want to be paid in Rubles) and they can't sell anything other than oil and gas in rubles;

    3. Russia's biggest vulnerability is on imports - they need imported goods and cannot get them (or pay for them). The Lada Granata (the "sanctions buster car") used as an example - has no ABS, no air bags, no seat belt pretensioners, etc. These are all manufactured outside of Russia.

    4. Poverty rising in Russia and lost all post COVID growth already;

    5. Ukraine is fucked if the West stops supporting them to the level they have so far.

    I really dont.

    I dont want to be in an actual full on shooting match with Russia.   Yeah, it really looks like 99% of their military funds have been diverted to an oligarch's pocket, and we would seriously impact their ability to make war in a few days...

    but that gives the fucking lunatic 1 final fuck you to the world.... "if I cant have it, no one will" and the fucker drops nukes....  even if its only on the border countries/ukraine/ belarus and only 10% detonate that will fuck up millions of lives.

    I just dont want to have to cross that line.... HE MAY cross it and we all will see what happens when he fucks around and we fully commit to an all encompassing, massive, full-on everything we got except nukes, response.    it would fuck up russia for sure... but that may be what he wants... the final fuck the world moment.

    Putin isn't risking triggering Article 5.

    Good chance Russia starts suing for a cease fire once Ukraine starts to take back some of the land they've taken in the next month or so.

    Remember, more than half of the US military aid is still on ships heading to Europe. Lend lease isn't even in play yet.
