  1. In a “great” America, Trump is not on the ballot. In a “sane again” America, Harris wins 350+ EV. In a “recovering” America, Harris wins 319+ EV. In a “surviving” America, Harris wins 270+ EV. In a “failing” America, Trump wins 270+ EV. In a “failed” America, Trump wins 300+ EV. It really sucks that our country is stuck somewhere between surviving and failing.
  2. Bregman is a moderately better hitter but most importantly he is a year younger. He will get a 7 year deal in free agency if he ends the year healthy (big question as I’ve read his elbow might require surgery after the season). I’m guessing $220M/7yrs is his ceiling with $190M/7yrs my estimate assuming he has a clean physical. Houston isn’t paying that. Best case for Houston is if teams get scared by his elbow and he has to take a pillow deal in which case the Astros have a shot to sign him.
  3. One month of daycare for one of my kids cost me more than an entire semester of tuition and fees when I went to Texas. I had 2 kids that required over 70 combined months of daycare. I probably paid 10x in daycare vs what I paid in total tuition/fees during my 5 years at UT.
  4. The Snake Diggity Education Bill: Public education starts at age 2 Mandated student:teacher ratios no greater than 5:1 for preschool (age 2-4), 10:1 for Elementary, 15:1 in Middle school, 25:1 High School Guardians receive a total of 6 months paid parental leave from their employer plus an additional 18 months unpaid parental leave (for a total combined 2 years leave), and can borrow up to 75% of their prior year’s income interest free, with the principal being deducted from future social security payments spread over the first 5 years of receiving SSI.
  5. Fuck no it’s not actually right. But at least he could say the “normal” bullshit that Republican politicians can say that people can understand (if disagree with). What he said should throw off even the most red voter. NO ONE who heard that was like “yep, that’s what we need to do to address childcare costs”.
  6. Astros have done Dezenzo a disservice calling him up to only play him every 4th game at a position he’s not used to. He’s been brutal at 1B but he’s a better player than what we’ve seen.
  7. Holy shit. 6 year degree requirements to work at a daycare? I need to let Children’s Courtyard know they’re WAY out of compliance. What an absolutely stupid answer to that question. The “right” Republican answer to that question is so obvious: “2 things Charlie: first, we’ve got to cut taxes so that dads keep more of their money and can afford for mom to stay home. Second, we’ve got to cut taxes so that families with 2 working parents keep more of their money and can afford daycare.”
  8. One cool thing that happened (or might happen) is that I might get the ice maker replaced for free. Turns out there was a class action lawsuit against LG for those craft ice makers breaking so often. There’s a site where you just enter your serial number and model number and they send someone out to replace it free of charge. The site is difficult to find (I found it in a Reddit thread on the topic) but shockingly within 10 minutes of entering my info I had an email confirming an appointment for this week. If it actually gets fixed for free I will be very happy, as I was quoted $500 to replace it by the repair man.
  9. The fact that Trump won in 2016 was shocking but understandable. A lot of shit came together. But the fact that 2020 was close, and that he is the GOP nominee in 2024, and that the race is still projected to be extremely close (PA +1 for Trump?!?! Wtff?!?!)…it’s such a brutal indictment of our electorate. Everyone knows what kind of shitbag he is. How little character he has. How quick he is to denigrate the vulnerable and blame others for his problems. Everyone knows how he’ll govern. How can this race be close?????
  10. We bought some LG shit (washer, dishwasher, fridge) 2 years ago during our remodel. The “craft” ice maker went out last month. Y’all got me tripping now reading the litany of complaints.
  11. Yeah I may be wrong too (goes without saying lol). But my current guess is they cut 50 this month then see if that momentum carries thru to October while trying to manage expectations against another cut. If the momentum carries, they’ll leave it alone in October but regardless I think they will overreact to sentiment each of these next 2 months.
  12. If they don’t cut, the stock market will crash. If they cut .25, I think the market will suffer some. I would bet heavily on a .50 cut this month. Wouldn’t bet against another cut (maybe even another .50) in October.
  13. No. His idiotic followers who refuse to hold him accountable for anything he says or does is what gets him out of so many logical logjams.
  14. It sure seems like the US is playing referee in a war between our ally and our enemy. If we’re gonna do that, we should either say “there are no rules outside of no nukes”, in which case Ukraine can use our shit however they want with no restrictions, or we say “no attacks on civilian infrastructure from here forward” in which case we will almost certainly have to get directly involved since there’s no way Russia will comply with that. As is stands, our ally is not able to prevent our enemy from destroying our ally’s civilian infrastructure because of limits we are imposing on them.
  15. Yes, all Pro-life voters are religious voters, but it’s the issue that doesn’t necessarily involve religion, and it’s the one they cling to when justifying their vote. And I understand it. If you believe that human life begins at conception, and that human life deserves equal protection under the law from the moment it begins, then abortion is basically genocide. That gets into what defines “human” life, which is really subjective and complicated. But I really do understand single issue pro-life voters. The best counter to that line of thinking is actually something I read that was taken from Barbara Bush’s personal notes. She was pro choice, and her thinking was that human life doesn’t begin until the “soul” descends into the body, and her belief was that the soul did not enter the body until birth, that the souls was essentially bestowed on a baby by its mother. Not sure I agree with all of that, but the idea that the “soul” is what differentiates human life from all else, and that there’s no necessary connection to when a soul enters a body and any biological process makes sense to me as a good justification for a pro-choice stance.
  16. Dude you need to chill with the optimism.
  17. I hate Donald Trump and proudly voted for Joe Biden and will proudly vote for Kamala Harris. The majority of my extended family and most of my friends from childhood are Trump voters. Many of them are the cliche rural racists that take in Fox News brain poison and lack even the most basic critical thinking skills. They represent Trump’s most loyal base. They’re not worth talking about. From the others, here are the 2 main reasons I have been given for why they vote Republican: ”I am a single issue Pro-life voter.” ”I vote for whoever I think is going reduce my tax burden because I think the government is a very poor steward of resources.” I have also been told by otherwise reasonable, moderately intelligent people who vote Republican that they believe the Republicans will be better on border security, the economy, and foreign policy, but those people haven’t wanted to or been able to provide any detail for why they believe that.
  18. Nah I don’t think that’s what he’s doing but if it is, it won’t work. At this point I assume Allred is just there to take in donations and funnel them to actual competitive races elsewhere.
  19. I wouldn’t say I trust them but being 8 degrees off when you’re forecasting 9fucking6 should face some consequences.
  20. Like 4 days ago the high in Austin for today was forecasted for like 96, now it’s 104?! Wtfff
  21. Wife’s car thermometer read 118 at about 5pm yesterday. My car thermometer read 111 when I picked up my kids from school at 3pm today. This is fucking crazy.
  22. We got a F1B Aussiedoodle back in November. Neither my wife nor I are/were really “dog people” but wanted our kids to have the experience. My 8 year old had been asking for a dog non stop for 5 years. 8 year old came up with the name Mason after reading about Mason the brave tornado dog, a true story of a dog who found his way back to his family after getting sucked into a tornado. We have really struggled at times adjusting to the added responsibility of a dog, and tbh we really didn’t have the bandwidth for this shit. But goddammit if this isn’t the best dog ever born. I have been the only person in the house to train him so I have a fuckload invested in him. He was potty trained by 10 weeks (within 2 weeks of us getting him). He’s NEVER shit in the house, even thru several bouts with chronic diarrhea. He is >90% responsive to sit, come, stay, fetch, fetch to pile, heel, spin, down, up, and play dead. He’s a great running partner. He plays great with the kids although my 35 lb 6 year old doesn’t know how to handle him so she’s gotten banged up rough housing with him a couple of times through no fault of his (we expected him to be 25-35 lbs, he ended up ~55 lb). I am working on getting him to enjoy the swimming pool. At this point he and I have a bond unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. His ability to read my mood and adjust accordingly to make me feel better or at least avoid making shit worse is uncanny.
  23. Yep. I normally hate fireworks, but the day that bag of shit dies, I’m putting on a show.
  24. I am pretty sure the PE firm that bought Schlitterbahn turned around and sold them to six flags. I totally agree that it is too democratized. I was thinking that exact thing when we were there. I would easily pay 50% more for there to be 30% less people but I guess the math overall doesn’t work. They would rather make a few extra bucks and have everyone leave there unhappy than not milk it and have people actually enjoy their product.
  25. He says “this is the greatest commercial they’ve ever had”, then proceeds to disparage the fuck out of the company/product by holding it up as the example of the negative impact of inflation.
