  1. War on Woke? Lately Trump looks like he’s fighting a War on Stroke…and losing.
  2. There are really only 2 types of candidates the Dems should be fucking with: the type you just described, who rail against the GOP and the crisis they are creating (using a lot of cuss words while they do it), and the type like Talarico, people who can effectively challenge the notion of the GOP as the party of religious people. These milquetoast Allred McGrath types are fucking losers.
  3. McCormick and Garcia are for sure gone. Only one of Dubon or Urias will be kept. Jesus Sanchez will probably be dumped. Trammell and De Los Santos are potential non-tenders. All totaled, if they cut/trade Garcia, McCormick, Sanchez, and Urias, they’ll enter the offseason $30M-$40M under the CBT threshold. If they were also able to shed the bulk Walker’s salary they’d be in really good financial shape; $50M-$60M is a very healthy amount to work with considering their needs (2 SP and a backup C).
  4. Have you ever been married? THATS WHY THEY HATE IMMIGRANTZ!
  5. Anyone still saying “Trump has a plan” is a hopeless moron. That person is not worth wasting one second of energy discussing politics. Fuck that dude and everyone like him all the way up their ass. Also, Talarico doesn’t lay out his legislative plan in any given speech, for 2 reasons: first, he knows that’s not the way to generate campaign momentum in an election like this, and second, he’s running for Senate, not President; I don’t think it makes much sense for a senate candidate to lay out a bunch of legislative priorities they determine <1% the vote for. Also, it’s pretty find out where he stands on the issues and what his legislative “plan” would be as a Senator, if you’re willing to spend 15 minutes looking on the internet.
  6. I think that guy might just be the 2nd shittiest human being on the planet.
  7. My wife, setting up her new phone: “Surry, play some music. Surry, play some music. SURRY! Play some music. SURRY!…” Me: “What are you doing. Are you trying to say ‘SIRI’?” Surry. wtf.
  8. That’s the most disheartening part of all this. The powerless feeling that my only option is let the fuckers win by pulling my kids out of AISD and putting them into private schools. I REALLY do not want my kids going to a religious school and really don’t want to close them off from experiencing diversity, but I’m also not going to let them get a shitty education. It’s all fucked. Fuck the state govt all up their ass with a hot iron poker.
  9. We got rezoned to a lesser rated middle school which is 3 times further away than the middle school we were previously zoned to. Cool. And fuck my life.
  10. I think it’s pretty funny this post was begged by King George.
  11. That dude has a book out called Christian Patriot. Fuckin A. Get in that grift son. I am extremely tempted to have AI write me a book called Patriot Christian. Doesn’t matter what the book says, I have full confidence I could sell a few million copies.
  12. It always amazes me how much people enjoy embarrassing themselves. Folks just running in here straight up yelling “look at what an evil dumbfuck I am! Hahahahahaha!!!” Shit is crazy.
  13. Yeah Correa and Bregman not being on that roster is ridiculous.
  14. He’s a low IQ bag of shit. Pitiful, really.
  15. By super duper Christian I mostly meant that his faith is at the forefront of his presentation and it is authentic and rational enough that it *should* be able to neutralize the way right wing politicians try to monopolize the “Christian values” crowd. I echo your skepticism that it will work, but I think it has a better shot than other Dem politicians and I don’t think a guy like Talarico has been tried before. He’s unique in the right ways. Does that mean he’ll win? Probably not. But I think he’s by far the best chance they’ve got.
  16. Yeah it’s clear that right vs wrong or progress vs regress has no impact on Trump’s support. A shitload of influential people who otherwise would hate him are staying quiet (or actively supporting him) because they stand to profit from his policies. I think at this point the only way this trajectory changes is when it becomes clear that Trump/MAGA is bad for business. That point is inevitable, it’s just a matter of how long it takes to get here. The democrats need to hasten its arrival.
  17. Trump has been the candidate for the “burn it all down” crowd from the beginning. That’s his base. It’s well past time to indulge them.
  18. I’m sure Trump gathering all his military leaders and telling them they are about to be used to fight “the enemy within” has absolutely nothing at all to do with the massive anti-Trump protests scheduled for October 18th in every major city in the country. Purely coincidence.
  19. Barron looks like the midpoint of his dad and Martin Shkreli. A real ladies man indeed.
  20. I kinda gave my thoughts a few posts up (I think he’s a pretty great candidate relatively speaking, but I’m not all that optimistic about his chances of winning), but I will add that I have met him and he came off really well. I also know someone who is close to him (not through politics or church) and they say he is the real deal in terms of character and selflessness. He is only the 2nd politician I have ever donated money to. If he wins the primary I may even volunteer for his campaign which seems crazy to me since less than 10 years ago I considered myself completely uninterested in politics. But just from everything I’ve seen and heard, regardless of how his policy ideas align with my ideology, he’s the kind of person we desperately need in national politics right now.
  21. I’m not convinced he wins the primary either. But if the Dems choose a black man who just lost a senate race last cycle against a lesser opponent or a proven loser in Beto, they deserve the shellacking they will end up getting. Talarico probably doesn’t have much of a chance of winning the general, but he’s got a shitload better shot than Beto or Allred.
  22. Talarico is very very close to the ideal Texas Democratic Senate candidate: White male. Super duper duper Christian and knows how to articulate that to people across the spectrum. Speaks Spanish. Background in education and is able to seem authentic and come across as a true public servant rather than a super-ambitious power hungry egomaniac (which was what I thought killed Beto). Legislative experience. Understands that the way for Democrats to message is to constantly reframe almost every issue as a class (rich vs poor) issue instead of whatever bullshit the MAGA side is spouting. The one thing he’s missing is being pro gun. I haven’t seen much from him on the topic. But he needs to learn how to shoot and if/when he wins the primary he needs to release an ad showing him frying bacon on an AK47 that he just emptied the clip on. Texans are fucking morons and won’t vote for somebody they think will take their guns. And if there’s an attack on Talarico, it’s that he’s too soft of a personality. Undoubtedly the attack ads will say stupid shit like “Talarico wants to take your guns and let illegal immigrants walk through your yard…” He probably doesn’t have a chance. He will have a better shot against Paxton than Cornyn. But I do think he’s a better candidate than Beto was.
  23. I have assumed opinions of Trump are mixed among military officers, but making Hegseth their boss cannot possibly have made anyone more of a fan of Trump. Even if they’re MAGA through and through, any officer in that audience HAS to have had the thought “I cannot believe I report to this dipshit.”
  24. If Houston trades Pena I’d expect them to get more than what they got for Tucker. So something like 2 MLB Top 75 prospects (preferably in AA or AAA), an MLB-ready BoR SP who the Astros think they can improve, and a solid controllable big league player. What I would really like would very likely require multiple moves; but hypothetically a 3-way trade like this might work: Astros get: IF Joey Ortiz SP Ryan Pepiot SS Cooper Pratt 2026 Competitive Balance Pick (from MIL) Brewers get: SS Jeremy Pena Rays get: C Jefferson Quero PTBNL (from 15-30 range on Brewers org list)
  25. Well to be fair Wulaw wants to trade Yordan so he can give $200,000,000.00 to another 1B in his 30s (Alonso). So for him it’s not a rebuild move it’s a reallocation (albeit one I think is really far fetched and dumb). And if another team met his pipe dream of giving up 4 top 100 level prospects for Yordan I’d probably be ok with a Yordan trade (although I would not be ok with giving Alonso $200M to replace him). Im ok with trading any player for the right value. But I don’t see any realistic scenario where it makes sense for Houston to rebuild, or trade Alvarez, Brown, or Altuve. I can see a situation where it makes sense to trade Pena (because his value is at its peak, Correa can play SS, and the SS market is barren this offseason). I can see it making sense to trade Walker (because he sucks, Houston is cash strapped, and Paredes can play 1B). But neither of those moves would preclude Houston from being a contender next season.
