  1. There is no democrat who can win a senate race in Texas in 2024. Texas Dems would be better doing something similar what Utahns did with McMullin this year: not running someone from the party at all and instead backing a moderate Republican in the primary or an independent who vows not to caucus with either party. McConaughey could be a viable example of the latter.
  2. I’m not gonna challenge your analysis. You’ve earned the right to be petty.😂
  3. Meh. My comment wasn’t wrong. I said it would hurt him, not that it would cost him the race. I think the debates/stroke did make that race closer than it otherwise would have been.
  4. I have looked and looked and I don’t really see a reputable Republican that I would point to as a role model. Romney, Sununu, and Hogan are pretty prominent guys who can at least say they never bowed to Trumpism. The mayor of Miami seems like the type of guy who could emerge 6-8 years from now as the face a new non-Trump GOP. Say what you want about Biden’s policies, he can at least put up a convincing front that he’s a good man. Not that I’d necessarily point to him as a role model, just that I’d point to him well before I would point to any Republican I know much about.
  5. Are there 5-6 sane GOP Reps who can prevent bullshit? Who are they?
  6. 51-49 D Senate with 220-215 R House is just about best case realistic scenario. Only need to find 3 sane Republicans in order to be able to pass everything needed to keep the lights on. By 2024 there’s a good chance inflation will be <3% and unemployment will still be <6%, making for a better environment for Dems, which they’ll need since the senate races coming up look bad for them.
  7. Sadly, I think even if Huffines had won the primary he would have beaten O’Rourke.
  8. Finally, FINALLY, we are getting some actual “downfall” mixed in with our “pathetic man”. Fuck yes!
  9. The more I think about it, I think the only way we will ever get a Dem governor (at least in the next 20 years) is if there is an extremely well funded far right wing independent candidate.
  10. The only boxes Beto checked on the “Viable Democrat candidate for Texas Governor” list are that he’s a good looking white male and he speaks Spanish. Boxes he didn’t check: Completely reject the Dem party stance on immigration and border security Do not ever talk about taking people’s guns away (probably ok to talk about adding restrictions to gun purchases) There are parts of the Dem platform that could probably get broad support in Texas (universal healthcare, education funding, abortion rights), but not if the candidate can in any way be labeled as favoring gun control or an open border.
  11. Trump has single-handedly cost the gop the senate in 2 consecutive cycles. LoL. I cannot wait to see how this shakes out. The odds of Trump quietly ceding the mantle to DeSantis are zero. The odds of Trump winning in 2024 are near zero. I wouldn’t say watching this play out will make 2016-2022 worthwhile, but it will be a decent consolation prize.
  12. While the House outcomes look like a pretty round rejection of Trump, the Senate is murkier. Johnson retained his seat, and it looks like Laxalt and Vance will win, while Walker will make it to a runoff. Masters and Oz were the only 2 of those 6 contested seats where Trump’s candidate was clearly beaten.
  13. Predictions: Gov: Abbott +7 Collier in a shocker (contested) Mayor: Watson +3 Close Senate winners: AZ: Kelly +2 (contested, violence), GA: Warnock +4 (contested, violence), IA: Grassley +4, NC: Budd +7, NH: Hassan +4, OH: Vance +2, PA: Fetterman +2 (contested), UT: Lee +3, WI: Johnson +3, NV: Laxalt +1 (contested); Senate 50-50 House 230-205 GOP All Austin props pass
  14. Leaving aside the fact that a stroke victim’s issues with speech are not necessarily related to their ability to think, you’ve hit on the fundamental difference between the current GOP voter and everyone else (both Dems and independents). Fetterman shows up to debate and obviously has issues with speech, then drops in the polls. It shows those that were planning on voting for him think critically and are having second thoughts. That’s healthy voter behavior. Meanwhile, the GOP runs out traitorous and retarded shitbags like Walker and Masters, and they expose their stupidity/sedition in debates, and no such change.
  15. Senator McMullin, Demings, Franken, Beasley, Ryan, and/or Barnes: things are clearly moving in the right direction. Senator Walker, Oz, Laxalt, and/or Masters: last one out turn out the lights. It’s over. I think it ends up 50-50 again. Fetterman having that stroke was a fucking brutal blow.
  16. I don’t think they’re meant to suppress turnout so much as set up for election fraud claims.
  17. There is absolutely nothing worse than having sick kids. This is the 3rd Halloween my daughter has been sick. She’s 4 years old. She was only sick for a week and it was never that bad, but we had the shit luck that my older daughter didn’t catch it until the very end so now we’re starting all over. Worst part is the older one always sports very high fevers. Extremely hard not to panic when you see those 104s coming up on the thermometer. My mind always goes to the worst. I‘m fit for a fucking straight jacket.
  18. I really really liked Fetterman before the stroke; he was one of the best prospects the Dems have had in awhile, but goddam the clips I have seen of the debate are brutal. The man could not effectively communicate. I still fervently hope he wins, Oz is a grifting ghoul. But this debate will (and probably should) hurt Fetterman.
  19. Yankees get: SP/DH Shohei Ohtani Angels get: SS Anthony Volpe SP Deivi Garcia IF/OF Oswaldo Cabrera 3B Josh Donaldson Yankees then sign Judge and Correa 2B Torres SS Correa RF Judge DH Ohtani LF Stanton 1B LeMahieu 3B Peraza CF Bader C Trevino Bench: Higashioka, Falefa, Hicks, Florial Rotation: Cole, Ohtani, Cortes, Montas, Severino Bullpen: German, Holmes, Schmidt, Luetge, Peralta, King, Loáisiga, Trivino, Marinaccio
  20. Nothing has changed since last December. No sane person expected us to win 11+ games this season. We will finish somewhere between 5 and 11 wins and update judgement of Sark accordingly: 5 or 6 wins and he must be fired 7 wins and he should be firmly on the hot seat, and anything less than 9 wins in 2023 should result in him getting fired. Also, this should mean at least one coordinator has to be fired. 8 wins and he gets judgement reserved another year; anything less than 9 wins in 2023 results in him being on the hot seat. This also likely means a coordinator should be fired. 9 wins and he met expectations; moving forward, 9+ wins is the minimum standard to avoid being on the hot seat, and a conference championship every 3-4 years is expected. 10-11 wins and he gets a raise. I still expect 8 wins this season.
  21. Not that it’s impossible, but I’d be shocked if it were a tree root; there aren’t any trees within 50 feet of the spot. I have no idea what could have caused the leak. A part of me is wondering if the vibrations from the road work a block away (I’m near the 290 construction being done near the Y) caused the crack.
  22. Pool sprung a leak. Leak inspector says return is broken, which aligns with where the grass is green and ground stays wet. Haven’t gotten a repair estimate back but the description (basically digging out and breaking up 1/4 of the pool) given makes me think it’s going to be pretty costly. Our pool is over 30 years old and we have known we would need to resurface/update/remodel sometime in the next decade or so. Anybody got advice on how to determine if the repair is worth doing or if we should just go ahead and remodel? I have no clue what things cost, pulling a guess out of my butt I am thinking the remodel we want will be in the $40k-$80k range, so if the repair is gonna cost more than $20k it would probably be better off just remodeling. Any advice/recommendations on what to do is much appreciated. Same for remodel contractor referrals; I’m in SW Austin.
  23. It would be a big surprise to see anything resembling a red wave. 51-50 Dem senate with a 225-210 GOP house is prolly where things currently project. Not the end of the world. Dems are lucky the red team sent out 2 mentally defectives for senate in swing states.
  24. We will finish 7-5 and win a bowl to finish 8-5, right in line with preseason expectations. Sark will fire PK and we will rev the hype train back up during the offseason.
