Do I get to start the James Talarico thread?
Snake Diggity replied to tchookem's topic in Cloak Room
Talarico is very very close to the ideal Texas Democratic Senate candidate: White male. Super duper duper Christian and knows how to articulate that to people across the spectrum. Speaks Spanish. Background in education and is able to seem authentic and come across as a true public servant rather than a super-ambitious power hungry egomaniac (which was what I thought killed Beto). Legislative experience. Understands that the way for Democrats to message is to constantly reframe almost every issue as a class (rich vs poor) issue instead of whatever bullshit the MAGA side is spouting. The one thing heās missing is being pro gun. I havenāt seen much from him on the topic. But he needs to learn how to shoot and if/when he wins the primary he needs to release an ad showing him frying bacon on an AK47 that he just emptied the clip on. Texans are fucking morons and wonāt vote for somebody they think will take their guns. And if thereās an attack on Talarico, itās that heās too soft of a personality. Undoubtedly the attack ads will say stupid shit like āTalarico wants to take your guns and let illegal immigrants walk through your yardā¦ā He probably doesnāt have a chance. He will have a better shot against Paxton than Cornyn. But I do think heās a better candidate than Beto was. -
I have assumed opinions of Trump are mixed among military officers, but making Hegseth their boss cannot possibly have made anyone more of a fan of Trump. Even if theyāre MAGA through and through, any officer in that audience HAS to have had the thought āI cannot believe I report to this dipshit.ā

If Houston trades Pena Iād expect them to get more than what they got for Tucker. So something like 2 MLB Top 75 prospects (preferably in AA or AAA), an MLB-ready BoR SP who the Astros think they can improve, and a solid controllable big league player. What I would really like would very likely require multiple moves; but hypothetically a 3-way trade like this might work: Astros get: IF Joey Ortiz SP Ryan Pepiot SS Cooper Pratt 2026 Competitive Balance Pick (from MIL) Brewers get: SS Jeremy Pena Rays get: C Jefferson Quero PTBNL (from 15-30 range on Brewers org list)

Well to be fair Wulaw wants to trade Yordan so he can give $200,000,000.00 to another 1B in his 30s (Alonso). So for him itās not a rebuild move itās a reallocation (albeit one I think is really far fetched and dumb). And if another team met his pipe dream of giving up 4 top 100 level prospects for Yordan Iād probably be ok with a Yordan trade (although I would not be ok with giving Alonso $200M to replace him). Im ok with trading any player for the right value. But I donāt see any realistic scenario where it makes sense for Houston to rebuild, or trade Alvarez, Brown, or Altuve. I can see a situation where it makes sense to trade Pena (because his value is at its peak, Correa can play SS, and the SS market is barren this offseason). I can see it making sense to trade Walker (because he sucks, Houston is cash strapped, and Paredes can play 1B). But neither of those moves would preclude Houston from being a contender next season.

The Leopards Eating Faces and Unlubed Dildo of Consequences Thread

Well then they might be presented with a real moment of truth. Either they break the rules and create an international incident, or they confirm their status as sell-outs and lose all credibility as comedians in the right. -

Iām torn. On the one hand I agree with you, but on the other hand if they donāt police his material, is it a bad thing for Burr and Chappelle to get paid to go over there and roast the shit out of the guys who are paying them and speak truth to power? Or even if their material is policed, is it a bad thing to get paid to expose their people to these guysā brand of comedy? Iām not sure, I tend to assume people sell out. But I donāt think itās black and white. -
The volume of fans suggesting Houston trade Yordan Alvarez is shocking. Trading Yordan is neither smart nor realistic. A DH only who is owed over $80M and is coming off a season in which he hit a total of 6 HR in 48 games is a guy you only trade if you are convinced heās washed and you are absolutely desperate to shed payroll. No team is going to value him as a MLB Top 5 hitter, which is what he is when heās healthy. If you have designs on trading him to rebuild the farm or free up payroll, fine, but wait until heās rebuilt his value. If Houston needs to free up payroll, theyāll trade Christian Walker or Josh Hader. If they need to rebuild the farm, theyāll trade Jeremy Pena or Hunter Brown.

There is some value in familiarity. Introducing a new manager adds risk, as the new manager could generate conflict with star players, which can completely derail an organization. Thatās not necessarily an endorsement of Houston keeping Espada, but just to say comparing Espada keeping his current job versus interviewing for other jobs is not apples to apples. I will also say that as a fellow Puerto Rican I would expect Correa to lobby hard on Espadaās behalf; who knows how much weight that holds.

Assuming they make a move to replace Framberās production (either with one true ace or with multiple quality arms) that doesnāt impact the big league roster elsewhere, the pitching staff will be at least as productive as it was this year, barring another insane injury bug. Having Alvarez, Pena, and Paredes healthy for a full season adds 5-10 wins to this roster vs 2025. Having Correa for a full season also probably adds another win or two. So even before accounting for the possibility of a young player (Smith, Cole, Melton, Matthews, Blubaugh, Ullola, Pecko) breaking out, or Walker or Diaz rebounding, this team projects to be a dozen or so wins better than they were this season. Aside from injuries, the only real downside to this roster is age related decline in Walker and Altuve, and those guys only combined for 3 wins this season, so itās not like thatās a major risk. If they replace Framberās production and stay healthy, this is a 92-102 win team.

My 2 variations of a reasonable offseason plan: Option 1: Trade Walker, Sanchez, and Dubon to free up salary Sign a 2nd/3rd tier free agent SP (Gallen, Flaherty, Eflin, King, Kelly, Verlander, Littell, Civale, Morton, Houser, Fedde, Scherzer, Heaney, Canning) Trade upper level high risk/ceiling prospects for a high ceiling SP (Gore, Lopez, Ryan, Alcantara, Pepiot, Rasmussen, Cabrera) Sign a free agent 7th inning RH RP (Maton, Harvey, loads of other options) Resulting roster: SS Pena 1B Paredes DH Alvarez 3B Correa 2B Altuve RF Smith LF Cole CF Meyers Bench: Urias, Salazar, Dezenzo, Trammell SP: Brown, Rasmussen, Javier, Littell, Blubaugh, McCullers, France RP: Hader, Abreu, Harvey, King, Sousa, Okert Option 2: Trade Pena for 2 elite (MLB Top 50) prospects plus a young #4 SP Trade Meyers for 2 decent prospects other teams will want Trade some of those prospects for a high ceiling SP (Gore, Lopez, Ryan, Alcantara, Pepiot, Rasmussen, Cabrera) Sign a free agent 7th inning RH RP (Maton, Harvey, loads of other options) Roster: CF Smith 3B Paredes DH Alvarez SS Correa 2B Altuve 1B Walker RF Cole C Diaz LF Sanchez bench: Dubon, Urias, Salazar, Dezenzo SP: Brown, Rasmussen, Javier, TBD, Blubaugh, McCullers, France RP: Hader, Abreu, Harvey, Sousa, King, Okert

That is at least partially a product of how late theyāve drafted the last 7 years. Prospects who have both hit and power tools get drafted in the top 15 picks. After that youāre choosing between Jacob Melton types (power/speed with k issues) or Grae Kessinger types (guys who make contact but canāt hit for power).

Iām actually encouraged by him saying his foot was hurting him. He needs to play less next season but I still think he can finish out his contract/career as a ~2 win player who can hit in the middle of the order. But his days of playing 150 games a season and playing the field 110+ games a year should probably be over. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. There might be a team out there that views Dubon as a stopgap 1-year solution to a vacant everyday SS spot and would be willing to toss Houston a 3rd tier prospect for him. For Houston I think the $7M+ heās gonna cost would be better used to add pitching.
-
I donāt want them to trade away pitchers Ethan Pecko, Bryce Mayer, or Anderson Brito, and they should avoid offering up their very high ceiling guys in the lower levels (namely Xavier Neyens and Kevin Alvarez), but yeah, any number of their power/speed/k guys from the upper levels (Melton, Cole, Dezenzo, Leon, Corona, Matthews, Sullivan, Whitcomb) would probably be best used as trade chips.

The absolute morons running the Democratic Party never cease to amaze me. Why in the blue fuck would they cooperate with Trump and the current version of the GOP in ANY way?!?!?!?!?!?! The fucking ONLY thing they should be saying about the budget standoff is āDonald Trump is a criminal authoritarian and we cannot be complicit in his continued quest to turn America into a dictatorship. If Donald Trump would like to dispel any of these accusations, he can endorse our balanced budget proposal, which includes universal healthcare, massive increases in education funding, dramatically increased incentives for first time home buyers, and massive tax hikes on billionaires and the super wealthy.ā The fact that they are even feigning an attempt to negotiate is a tacit endorsement of Trump as a legitimate leader. Fuck that.

Sure, theyāve been more than willing to watch the suffering thatās already happened, but: This. Restrictions on birth control, restrictions on women voting and working, mass extermination or imprisonment of people based on religion, race, gender, sexual preference, economic status, or political affiliationsā¦these are all things we are on track to start seeing and I am not sure Trump supporters will stay faithful through all of that. It might be too late to change anything by the time they wake up, so it might not matter.

https://www.nokings.org This is probably ineffectual but canāt hurt. There will be mass protests on 10/18. Everyone on this board should consider attending. If there are tens of millions, and if theyāre louder than ever, it may give these motherfuckers pause, or at least inspire opposition leaders to act more firmly. My opinion is that itās too late. But I will still attend.

The Supreme Court ruled that ICE can target people because of how they look. No one is talking about it. Teachers and entertainers are being fired en masse for publicly stating opinions about a far right wing content creator and his death. The CDC has replaced multiple tiers of their leadership with anti-vaxxers and are changing the vaccination schedule to reduce access to vaccines. The president is sending troops to large cities against the will of locally elected officials. The list goes on. But thereās enough evidence that this problem is now well beyond the point where participating in the existing system (I.e. voting and protesting) can be expected to work. Itās pretty obvious that the only actions that can address this problem are very likely illegal in the eyes of the people currently in charge of creating, interpreting, and enforcing the law. So this thread is probably a bad idea. I donāt know what the answer is. But I think we are all now faced with a clear choice to either get in line or risk our lives. Any organized resistance is going to be very difficult given how easy it is for the government to surveil everyone. Good luck to all.

Dude if you think thereās any meaningful chance that anything resembling the current platform of the Democratic Party will ever hold control of the presidency or congress (much less both at the same time) any time in the next 20 years, you havenāt been paying attention. The time for that action has long since passed. Very convincing. āJust wanna say we definitely did NOT kill him.ā -guy who would totally have had him killed -

It is only a matter of time before MAGA turns on itself. The question is how much damage they will do before it happens. The left/Dems need to help it along. They should have been doing this long ago. Playing by the old rules is forfeiting the game. -
