  1. I hadn't been checking these Star Wars threads but you can kinda see which guys are a little too emotionally invested and have long term connections to films like its part of their identity and which guys pay attention to things like acting, direction, plot, character development, treat the films like any other movie.
  2. Gonna be so funny after he wins a Super Bowl and everyone pretends that they had his back the whole time....
  3. From a production and documentary aspect, this show is miles ahead of what passes for a reality show on cable these days. They players and coaches aren't doing stuff just for the cameras, they aren't put in odd situations by the production company.
  4. I put in so many hours on the Campus Legend game mode. I started to think that I was the guy in the video game. I would walk around in real life feeling like I was a big time college football player. It was so realistic. After a while I couldn't tell where real life ended and the game took over. It was such an improvement of the Race For The Heisman mode of earlier games.
  5. I just finished Nazi Mega Weapons and Nazi Mega structures and the intro where the voiceover says "Nazi weapons of death that killed millions.... Is brought to you by.... viewers like you!" was a little awkward but ultimately accurate statement.
  6. I have only finished two episodes and the two transfer running backs show how the position is about as disposable at the Power-5 as it is in the NFL. So many guys with measurables and stars who can't hit the hole or break a tackle or read the defense and make a cut back even when they are faster than every guy they are up against. Why would a P5 coach keep guys like the ones here around when there are so many big strong kids who want to be running back.
  7. I was a little too involved in the role playing feature they added in the last years of the NCAA Football game.
  8. Are we talking about Dakota Allen? The guy with linebacker size and speed that had good grades and had some kind of religious rebirth while at EMCC? I don't want to sound cynical, but there are tons of guys with NFL type bodies and size and speed and measurables who can't get their act together in High School or college. There are more wanna be quarterbacks than there are starting spots, and half the four and five star guys leave when they don't have a starting spot.
  9. No Latin or African dudes? And you guys call yourselves music fans? Tony Allen Airto Moreira Papete Wilson Das Neves Nana Vasconcelos Paulinho Da Costa Dom Um
  10. Only the best urban planners in Ames Iowa. Anyone who has driven the two main streets everyone uses every day can confirm.

pics remind me of some guy on Ebay who would take ridiculous steps to make authentic looking promo stickers for classic album pressings from back in the day to get super high bids for a copy of some album with a promo sticker on it. I would feel sorry for the people who over pay for stuff like that, but who would part with more of their money for an old promo sticker?
  12. Some bands just have a different philosophy, a different reason why they do the things they do. Its like the old baseball writers who would say "Its why they play the game...." At least some d-bag artists like Kid Rock will admit they only ever made music to get girls attention and get laid, when you look at all the models that a guy like Richie Sambora hooks up with before he hangs it up it all starts to make sense.
  13. One of my favorite days of the year.
  14. NIN is classic angry male music, just set to a dance beat with vintage nineties production values. Not exactly candy for the teenage girls who spend so much time, money, energy following their favorite musicians.

I've kept all my cd's from the past 2 decades in boxes in storage hidden from everything. I haven't pulled them out in a long time, but sometimes I find some when I am cleaning another part of my house.
  16. Its an incredibly ethnocentric way of viewing the music of the world. The whole idea of a World Music genre, category, to lump every non-Western music style together is a relic from the past. You would get run out of the Musicologist convention for even discussing World Music as anything but a outdated lens to see non-Western music.
  17. World Music is a dated term for music made outside the United States. Its a category for music that is basically ridiculous.
  18. Its one of the basic things about pop music is that guys will want to be the performers and rock stars and a large faction of the female fans will want to "be with" the performers. Its a fundamentally different experience. Its no secret that the pop acts or rock bands with nice haircuts, well groomed and good looking guys will get more exposure, and female fans respond to that kind of thing more. The clothes, costumes, fashion choices have an effect to how a lot of female fans respond. Hair cuts are important for female fans, just think of how many guys with obnoxious over-style hair will have some huge female following. Like all music marketing, having a dance beat and some catchy understandable sing along lyrics help. Its already been mentioned before, but the progressive rock category fails on many of the metrics that lead to female fans. The bands are fronted by awkward, average to below average or straight up fugly guys, then you have the long song lengths and on top of that the wacky time signature that can't be danced to.
  19. I played this game a few years ago, good time killer but nothing too deep or engaging, like a cheesy action movie to watch when you have nothing else to do. These open world games with the same map and crafting and taking down enemy camps games have grown like those crazy frogs in Australia over the past few years. The gameplay and action sequences were tight, easy to pick up. I never felt the need to try the other Far Cry games, and they are pretty far down on my list of things to do now.
  20. Some google searching found out that these guys are still alive and had a new song last year:
  21. When I watched the show I liked to look at the sets and think about where the scenes were shot around Hawaii. The plane scenes were filmed in a special plane used in lots of Hollywood movies, its something like a real plane taken apart in a studio in LA. Everything else is in Hawaii until the final season. There is something like an abandoned YMCA camp where a ton of the series was shot, then there are old WWII bunkers for other scenes, and they have a plant person who puts plants everywhere to make the same jungle area look like different places on the island. Lots of blue screen shots to get the mountains to look right too.

I was going to post this in the Mexican Music thread. But if anyone ever sees the album Whipped Cream and Other Delights by Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass, pick it up the moment you see it. In addition to being some of the best Mexican Brass Band music ever made, it has a really great cover that pushed boundaries as to what was allowed at the time. I know one guy who had a copy, then he saw another one in a store and didn't buy it. He has never seen it again. If you don't have the money then you can take the record and stash it in the Classical section where nobody will take it before you get back.
  23. Expectations are low for this season. But the next season things should take off. When you look at all the other coaches who won National Championships in year two or year three, get ready to add Scott Frost to the list.
  24. Some of the film geeks or football explainer guys did video and gif breakdowns of that 3 linemen and eight back in coverage defense they ran to so much success last season. But I couldn't find any of the videos on a brief twitter search.
