  1. Sorry for tilting at windmills. How 'bout this one. We live a suburb of Dallas called Rowlett. Most places we visit go has us use Bush Turnpike, which is a toll road, to get home. As we get close to our exit off Bush, my wife will exit the highway and drive 4 extra miles to avoid the toll. I've tried to explain benefit/cost to her to no avail. Here's the math --- 1. To continue home on the toll (4 miles) costs 88 cents as we have toll tags and the cost per mile is 22 cents a mile. 2. Taking her route adds 4 extra miles + about 10 minutes of drive time as we go through several lights. If I'm calculating this correctly it costs 60 cents in gas to take this route. Her car gets 20MPG in the city @ $3 a gallon. So, 1/5 of the cost of a gallon of gas. So, she's "saving" 28 cents to drive an extra 4 miles while adding 10 minutes to the trip. BTW, we're not Surly 1 percenters, but we can afford gas. And, before anyone asks, I do usually drive; however, when we have the kids with us, we take her car and she prefers to drive it.
  2. Yes. A. We had a windmill in our farm in Comanche for the garden and cows. It actually came to me late last night that you might be thinking I was referencing the generators. All good.
  3. I'm I'm speaking of the use of windmills in Holland for milling? Am I missing something?
  4. Yeah. That was odd. Not near as odd as putting a 200lb door on rickety branches, and sleeping under it. Other than instant death, what was the possible advantage of trying that? It was only going to block a small percentage of any possible rain. Why not rig it over the roof of a car? That would hold it and keep you dry in the off chance there's another big storm. Also, I previously stated that the bugs would be an auto exit for me. I'm speaking to some of the locales that had non-stop mosquito or other biting flies. You can go ahead and add black mamba in my shelter as a quick out for me.
  5. I think I posted about this years ago, but it's too good to not post again. In 2015 the family and I drove from Knoxville to Phoenix via Texas. When we got to west Texas, the following conversation occurred re: windmills. Her: Why are all these windmills out in the middle of nowhere? Me, not really sure what she meant: Um, I guess it depends on what it's being used for and where the crops are. Her: Wouldn't it make sense to have them near a road or house? Me, still not sure what the hell is going on: I guess it depends. Her: So they haul all the grain to the middle of the field, grind it, then haul it back to the road? Me: Babe. This isn't Holland. Those are for water. Her: Really?
  6. Jatavion Sanders? He was pretty cool.
  7. Yep. That was my least favorite trip to Austin. Didn't really hit until we got home late last night. My wife handled it surprisingly well. My autistic 13 year-old, not so much.
  8. Love your kids folks. One day you're living in Knoxville, TN trying to get your kid to love your alma mater over his mother's (Vols). Next thing you know, you've dropped him off at Texas and come home to an extremely quiet house. I know it'll pass, but right now I'm all, "I should have pushed for UTD" (5 miles away).
  9. Dolly admirer and Vol grad wife not amused.
  10. I think he may have been missing his #1 receiver. At least I think that's what I heard before changing the channel in the 3rd qtr.🤬
  11. The absolute most telling thing about this chart - #61. Look at it aggy. See if you can figure it out.
  12. Speaking of. In Scipio's latest version of his Texas football mag - at least I think it's Scipio - he states that some dude did a study in 2020 where college fans were polled about their biggest rival. I believe Texas was the response for 9; the next closest 3. I'm wracking my brain. What are the 9? aggy arky - LSU? Tech - should be aggy Baylor Houston TCU - should be SMU
  13. I've never watched a single second of BB. That being said, it's rare that I know anything about the contestants anyway. I'll still watch for the beauty of the show.
  14. 100% with you. Per loyalty, I'll always support the Cowboys, but I try not to do anything that assists the Jones family in any manner.
  15. Tennessee now claims 6 as well. The entire time I lived in Knox, I never heard anyone claim more than the '51 and '98 championships. I noticed it on the stadium wall the year my family and I moved back to Texas in 2017. This would have been at the spring game.
  16. So last year, the TN AD raised season ticket prices by 10% for a "talent fee". This year, it's going up 4% more. They're squeezing the shit out of the fans up there to be able to compete in NIL. What I thought was interesting was the following list of cheapest season tickets in the SEC (including contribution fee): University of South Carolina: $560 University of Alabama: $500 University of Texas: $465 Louisiana State University: $360
  17. Atkinson had a slight ankle injury. Nothing serious. Apparently, Grayson is the 8th ranked team in GA. The team they destroyed, without Atkinson and two other defensive starters, was 10th.
  18. Scrolling through, wondering when The Great Outdoors would pop up It buzzed me.
  19. I get soccer can be a fluky sport at times. The high school girls team I coached almost beat one of the best teams in the state one year because they shanked like 20 shots. Score should have been 8-0. It was 2-1. In my defense, I had exactly one club player on my team against a team who had 3rd string club players. That being said, how in the holy hell do you give up 3 goals, at home, to NW State? They shouldn't have had 3 decent shots, much less goals. I thought CDC was going to get rid of this trash last year.
  20. Kelly's old school, TN, is kicking the shit out of #1 UNC right now.
  21. Lulz. My soon-to-be-Longhorn freshman saw this for the first time when he was about 11. Took him to see Texas play aggy in basketball in Ft Worth. (I can't recall why the game was there.). Anyway, the dumbass ags pulled this weird crap and he said, "What is this shit?". That's the only time I've ever heard him curse.
  22. This biased poll crap is so aggy. Yes, ESPN contacted all of the coaches and writers to implore them to over rank Texas for ......... Um, ratings or something?
