  1. Ive seen some crazy shit in my ~35 years on the course, but today is in the top 5 for sure 70ish old regular in our Saturday game has been out for four months undergoing cancer treatment (fuck cancer) and was able to get out for the first time today, playing in my group. We start on our harder half of the course and he’s understandably struggling a bit, +12 through the first 8 holes. On the 9th, though, he hits a brilliant drive, excellent layup, then perfect iron onto the green of our 2nd handicap par-5 and taps in for an easy birdie. You love to see it We make the turn, all smiles. He hits another great drive, nice iron, then birdie putt. Back to back! We move on to the #1 handicap, another par 5. Another fucking birdie! Our next hole is a tight par 4, and he finally misses, off to the left in the rough under a tree. He has no realistic iron so he just hits his 3wood low towards the green and the sonofabitch rolls right on to the green about 40’ past the hole. He’s left with the kind of kneeknocker downhiller one might expect to make maybe 1 in 20 attempts…. he hits it DEAD FUCKING CENTER of the cup for his fourth consecutive bird!?!? Next hole is a short par 3 which he easily lands on but about 50 feet left of the hole. He two putts and says “well, I guess that’s it then” and it was. He proceeds to go +7 on the last 5 holes. I’ve never seen anything like that kind of heater
  2. Pretty sure someone threw Scottie’s ball back on #12
  3. Or perhaps a better approach is go get a single lesson for some basic swing work and let him quickly tell you what your specs probably are
  4. While I agree you may not need a full on proper fitting yet, don’t confuse that with a (free) basic fitting at a golf store to at least get proper shaft stiffness, shaft length, club head lie and grips. You don’t want to build the basics of your swing around grossly inappropriate clubs.

  8. They found a way to make it even uglier! This one is fucking pink
  9. Trumpkins in a golf group chat. It’s a fucking cult
  10. They fucked this up. I saw Maynard recently admitted they fucked up on digital, too. Wonder when they’ll realize they fucked up not pro filming their concerts.
  11. Amazing and it makes sense. Great hand
  12. ~20 seconds in the MGM app. I always glance, puzzled, at the lines checking in. More so on the lines checking out. What the actual fuck are you people doing?!
  13. Hate that for you. It’s a great course

With all respect, building a strategy around your experience (real, or even worse perceived) is a terrible way to minimize your losses. The classic example is youve just seen a (fair) coin toss land heads up 10 times in a row. Is the next toss more likely to be heads or tails?
  15. Aria has a $200 minimum bet table on the main floor and it’s full at Noon on Saturday. Sickos!
  16. Ahhh, my bad We have a constant bad beat here and I always cringe at the “it’s due” talk

    Shouldn’t it be desert camo?
  18. From that thread, “Nerd Reich” is pretty good
  19. The gambler’s fallacy. It’s equally likely to happen tomorrow.
  20. Just suggested Club Champion in the 2025 thread if you want to jump over there https://www.surlyhorns.com/board/index.php?/topic/39920-2025-GOLF%3A-I-don%27t-think-the-heavy-stuff%27s-gonna-come-down-for-quite-a-while/page__view__findpost__p__6866272&share_type=t&link_source=app
  21. It’s funny because while you’ve made a good point, I’m frequently switching my car from Sirius to my phone when I get stopped under bridges
  22. What probably happened w Mexico
  23. Get fitted at Club Champion. They can put you in every combination of shaft and head available on the market. And it’s a fun and enlightening experience even if you don’t buy anything. There’s no reason to avoid graphite shafts. They’re lighter while offering as much stiffness as you want Hybrids are why we don’t need 2i and 3i. They’re awesome. I play down to 5h with 6i being my first iron.
  24. I bought his annual membership like 5 years ago and happily renew each year.
  25. Clay Ballard w Top Speed Golf is my favorite.
