  1. Lost it at John Bolton guarding the rear.
  2. Thank you for articulating so well what I have been thinking. There’s always been this performative core to Trumpism, just shitting on political norms for the glee of disrupting things. The claims pushed by Trumpkins are frequently too outlandish for a reasonable person to take seriously, and the collective reactions indicate to me most don’t. I mean, until last Wednesday the response to in what most countries would be actual civil war was a fucking hashtag. Even most of the mob, after being politely let in by Capitol Police, simply paraded around with their phones and selfie sticks out. They obeyed the velvet ropes in Statuary Hall! And it took a gunshot for them to snap out of it. I’d guess most of the mob simply believed that larger forces at work rigged the game against Trump and them - and they aren’t wrong at a certain level of generality - and that was enough for them to suspend belief and embrace the theater.
  3. Yes I just don’t understand the butthurt. This was almost certainly a decision made by Jack Dorsey and Twitter’s board, along with strong pressure from institutional shareholders, regarding protecting Twitter from liability arising from its involvement with being a forum for hate speech and the right thing to do as a corporate citizen. Twitter has been one of the demonized faces of Big Tech for some time and I’d guess the board, reeling at the possible legal exposure of being deemed a catalyst for widespread political violence in the US, just decided to get out of the business of regulating such content entirely. I don’t think any officer or director of Twitter or Alphabet would want to make decisions, or have their employees put in the position of making decisions, of this magnitude.
  4. Holy shit, took me a sec to notice that’s a TexAgs screenshot. Gotta save this one for the archives.
  5. Fortunately law enforcement has gained lots of experience with this situation over the course of the Trump administration.
  6. Yes. In high school I had an “Impeach Tom without Delay” shirt. I’ve hated the Republican Party for a long time.
  7. I think he’s a good choice and it makes sense. While I understand their disappointment, as a San Franciscan I am upset by the tone of Willie Brown’s and London Breed’s reactions. Particularly with Breed, as this is the type of politics she embraces while driving SF back into shelter in place with no data for justification.
  8. Trust me, the TigerDroppings crowd will gladly give up New Orleans.
  9. This is interesting. I don’t think it will bring many relocations. Like many tech companies, Oracle is moving away from the notion of being tied to an office. And while tech brings people to the Bay from all over the world, in my experience most people in G&A (the only function tied to HQ) are native Californians - especially in older companies like Oracle. I don’t see them particularly interested in moving to Texas. That said, fuck being tethered to Redwood City.
  10. I imagine they are all terrified of laptops now.
  11. If I were to choose one place that defines New Orleans to me, it would be Liuzza’s. And now it’s up for sale. Not COVID-related, but still a huge bummer.
  12. It’ll never happen but would love for someone to call her out on being a transfer student.
  13. Nostalgia aside, I have just always though Link’s version took it to the next level. I hate Alan Richman to this day for his hit on NO in GQ, but his take on CG was the only thing I agreed with. Am about to spend three months in NO since we are working remote for the next year, so will have plenty of time for taste testing.
  14. JFC, welcome to the big leagues, where people work on Sunday and take proactive public health measures.
  15. Oh absolutely, by miles. Only place for a muff in town IMO.
  16. TexAgs is confused. If Trump is alleging election fraud, why aren’t his lawyers?
  17. And to think Republicans used to be against frivolous lawsuits.
  18. The donations Trumpkins are sending for the “legal defense fund” will be used for MAGA rallies to sell them on the new Trump digital news network
  19. Agreed. For example, not that Biden’s campaign would be aware of this, but promoting clean energy seems to me like a pretty good sell for the Texas economy. We have the begun the era of consolidation in O&G and the future of shale has dimmed. With household names like Anadarko, Parsley, Concho etc gone, so are thousands of high-paying jobs that contributed to the Texas boom over the past decade, and this will ripple throughout the economic ecosystem surrounding O&G. But it’s not a given that Texas will attract the growing renewables sector simply because it’s the energy capital (most banks have their renewables desks in SF or NYC, for example), and I think it would be sensible for the state to attract that growth to create jobs and diversify the economy. But I never see the issue framed that way. Instead, we make it an environmental one, the economic benefits of which are not immediately apparent and underlying issues of which are often disputed or denied.
  20. I think time has softened how bad the “freedom fries” jingoism among the right was preceding Iraq. And the swift boaters were the first really organized right-wing misinformation campaign - and they actually believed it. It was only a matter of time before death panels and Bill Ayers.
  21. Yeah, but Nixon’s wasn’t part of the National Archives until 15 years or so ago, and when they took over they redid the whole Watergate exhibit (I saw it - it was hilarious). I don’t see how the NA deals with any shit for Trump’s.
  22. The TexAgs brain trust cannot figure out why the Trump-backed Georgia SOS threw the election for Biden.
  23. I mean, TexAgs just launched a Fox News boycott. What a time we live in.
