    Texas BBQ

Hurtado bbq in Arlington. Pork ribs were excellent, perfectly cooked and nicely seasoned with a semi sweet glaze. Brisket was sliced very thick and was a little dry. Brisket tostada was delicious and a great value at $5.50, piled high with chopped brisket. Oaxaca poblano sausage was slightly gamey but not overpowering. Texas twinkie and Mexican cornbread were both good but probably wouldn't get them again. Birria torta was absolutely fantastic. None of the sides were remarkable.
  2. always enjoyed the anchor liberty more than the steam. haven't seen it around austin in years.
  3. in high school i routinely bought weed from an old black man who sat in a lawn chair in his front yard and sold $20 sacks of dirt weed. ferguson/little pocket in dallas. i was a skinny, nerdy white kid and somehow never got rolled.

    Beef ribs

Smoked pastrami beef ribs yesterday. Even after a 14 day cure there was still a spot in the center that wasn't pink, think i should have flipped them over in the brine at some point. Absolutely delicious nonetheless.
  6. death valley girls last night at hotel vegas. lead singer has serious cyndi lauper vibes in both voice and demeanor. they were good, very garage punk/stoner rock vibe. heavy riffs and good hooks. love their new album.
  7. if you've really never heard of any of those bands you're missing out on a lot of good shit.
  8. it would've been better if they were porta potties. half of them were out of order at all times and the other half were full of people doing drugs. there were people pissing all over the place outside the venue and then going back inside.
  9. ridiculous lines for everything...food, booze, bathrooms. like 45 mins minimum. and it's way the fuck south nowhere near any of the other venues.
  10. fuck the far out lounge. can't believe they're sticking with that venue after the shitshow that was austin psych fest.
  11. the smile was excellent. i was general admission floor at moody, definitely cool to watch thom yorke and jonny greenwood in such a relatively small venue. lots of energy, cool light show, great musicianship. definitely glad i went, thom is a great performer.
  12. I'd like to know how far they made it. I've done that hike in the winter and it was hot as shit even in January.
  13. going tonight. haven't really gotten into the album but figured it would be worth seeing them live.
  14. Picked up some extremely cheap tickets for noel Gallagher and garbage last night at a very empty COTA. Was never a big oasis fan and that set didn't do anything to change my mind. Garbage, however, was surprisingly good. Shirley Manson can still sing and had a great stage presence.

    New Music 2023

after 1 listen, the new qotsa is already way more enjoyable than the last record.
  16. jerry harrison and adrian belew- it's called the remain in light tour so I assumed they would be playing all of remain in light. that proved not to be the case but they did play several songs off that album plus some other talking heads classics. sounded great. they had a huge band...probably 10 people on stage including backup singers. a different person in the band sang lead vocals for each song and they all did a pretty good job. had never seen adrian belew live, he was every bit as awesome as I anticipated. he has such a unique style. les claypool's fearless flying frog brigade- first off, the band featured both sean lennon and harry waters...pretty interesting to see 2 sons of rock royalty on the same stage. they played all of pink floyd's animals plus about 10 other songs. animals was really fucking good, sean lennon did a great job with the guitar parts. i wasn't familiar with most of the other material they played but it was enjoyable. i also always love getting the opportunity to see mike dillon play percussion.
  17. i'll be there tonight.
  18. i was sad when he died becuase people went through a phase of pretending linkin park was good. one of the worst bands ever.

  20. No TX dates so I'll be at the Denver show. Looking forward to the new QOTSA album.
  21. with viagra boys opening? hell yes.
  22. Ziggy turns 8 this month, still going strong. Did a 7 mile hike on Saturday.
  23. Camped at Colorado Bend last weekend. Love the trails at that park. River was browner than normal from the rain, but everything else was green and plenty of wildflowers still blooming. The pit toilet situation was terrible, someone literally took a shit on the floor of the bathroom closest to our campsite, wtf.
  24. Saw this one in Big Bend NP. Patchnose I think?
  25. all them witches tonight at antone's. i know a dude in the hold steady and i wish i could like them, but not my cup of tea.
