    Texas BBQ

stopped at truth in brenham last week. all of the meats were excellent. my only complaint with them is always the accoutrements...pickles not good, prefer raw onions to pickled, give me thin white bread. meat is fantastic though.

  6. viagra boys at white oak music hall in houston last thursday. it was originally going to be on the inside stage but that sold out and they moved it outdoors. it was about 75% full, plenty of room to move around, never a line for anything...definitely enjoyed the venue. band was great, crowd was pretty chill but definitely into it. setlist was great...especially research chemicals and ain't no thief. really wanted to hear dirty boyz, didn't get that one but they did play a new song called therapy. stereolab and viagra boys at far out lounge on halloween. stereolab sounded good but they don't have much stage presence. they at least could have worn some halloween costumes. felt like the crowd was ready for more energy, they were kind of a weird pairing with the rest of the lineup. i did enjoy their set though. viagra boys definitely brought the energy and the crowd was absolutely nuts. got a shorter set than houston by a couple songs but it was a great show. the far out lounge continues to suck ass. the place was waaaay oversold. wasn't anywhere to escape the crowd. couldn't even get a drink because the line was absurd...stood there for 20 minutes without moving and gave up, must've been an hour wait. i don't understand why levitation continues to have events there. viagra boys at house of blues in dallas on saturday. it was advertised as doors at 8 show at 9. apparently the opening band actually went on at 7:30 and viagra boys hit the stage at 8:30...so a bunch of people missed the first 30 minutes of their set and were rightfully pissed off about it. played the same set that they did in houston, once again a great show. think i finally got my fix of viagra boys. been listening to the new album non-stop.
  7. best place to pre-game before a show at white oak music hall?
  8. there was a matt's off of 190 over by firewheel, went with my parents a few times. think it closed during covid.
  9. la fonda was great, beautiful patio and the weather was perfect. food was delicious and, damn, those are some giant portions. leftovers made for a great midnight snack.
  10. that was my first time at the alamodome, what a terrible venue. the other 2 times i've seen him were at outdoor venues and i enjoyed those much more. echoey sound and the lack of fireworks was kinda shitty. he stil puts on a hell of a show for an 83 year old but i think he's lost a step since i last saw him 6 years ago. never gonna complain about seeing one of the best ever play for almost 3 hours, but more than likely not gonna dish out the money to see him again. i asked one of the beer vendors if there was any place in the arena that sold better beers...she laughed and said, "sorry, san antonio is not on that level".

    Spoon

spoon is absolutely a local band. they asked people not to line up before doors at 6pm, not sure how that's gonna work.

    Burgers

the silver medal, across the highway from busty's, is an actual dive bar that's really great and has a solid burger. busty's is a manufactured mickey mouse bullshit dive bar.
  13. tortoise last night at radio east. have been impressed every time i've seen them, this was no exception. very enjoyable evening. the opener, thor, was painful.

    Tex Mex

    Tex Mex

curra's does pitchers of frozen margs, always good with a group.

    Tex Mex

none of these tex mex places are going to have an "evening vibe". go to fonda san miguel if you're looking for that. considering where you're located, mi madre's would be my choice. y mas and nuevo mexico are also good options. there is a curra's in hyde park that might have a vibe.
  19. i've come to accept that most people despise zombie zoo and definitely consider it filler. i still like it though.
  20. lol, only an astros fan would actually believe that. it's a permanent stain.
  21. thankfully i've never had to deal with this scenario, but what happens if a dude has to shit at mohawk...he has to use the women's restroom? the mens room is only urinals. pretty sure i would go across the street to the sheraton if that situation ever arose.
  22. it's tom petty day. sun radio playing 24 hrs of petty.
  23. brmc at mohawk saturday night. was on the floor and it was far too sweaty for an october night. they played all of howl and 5 or 6 other songs. i saw them at the parish 20 years ago when they originally toured for howl. it's not an album i listen to much, had forgotten how emo it is. it got a bit too whiney for me a couple times, was happy when they got to the rock portion of the show. tom petty tribute concert yesterday at hotel ella. the damn torpedoes were the backing band for several guests, and then played their own set of covers. kevin russell and kelley mickwee did a great job on stop dragging my heart around and nightwatchman. ray benson covered you don't know how it feels, and he flubbed a lot of the lyrics. the damn torpedoes drummer remains the most energetic, over the top drummer i've seen in quite some time. now let's talk about this boomer trend that i find infuriating. they will get there early and set up in the back of the venue next to a table or rail they can lean on. then they expect that no one will stand in front of them in the vast amount of open space available between them and the stage. the conversation usually goes something like this: boomer: are you seriously going to stand right there? me: yes boomer: i got here very early to stand here. it's extremely rude that you think you can waltz right in and stand in front of me. me: you're welcome to stand in front of me, there's plenty of room. boomer: but i want to stay in this spot me: well that's your choice then
