2nd attempt at a pastrami brisket last weekend. Used a prime brisket from Costco and cured it for 14 days...only did 7 last time and that wasn't long enough. Made the Katz dry rub, smoked to 175 then steamed in the oven to 203. Previous time I didn't steam it, definitely like the texture more after steaming but it obviously softens the bark. Overall thought it was really damned good.
Saw the viagra boys in Portland last Friday. It was a giant party. The whole floor was a mosh pit. They have several humorous shrimp references in their songs...at one point someone in the crowd threw a bunch of crocheted shrimp into the air. Extremely fun show and great music.
My van isn't fancy, just the necessities. Have a full size bed, sink connected to a 5 gallon water container, and a 100 watt solar panel that runs a Dometic refrigerator and a roof fan. Plenty of storage under the bed for everything else needed. I couldn't live in it comfortably but it's great for a week or two at a time for 2 people and 2 large dogs.
bought a 93 GMC Vandura conversion van during the pandemic and turned it into a camper. it has been extremely awesome for both convenience and quality of sleep.
dale dudley was at the johnny walker memorial/soulhat concert last saturday at antone's. he was supposed to tell stories about johnny walker but instead he just told stories about himself and how fucked up he would get at radio parties. then he fake cried at the end.
caught rickshaw billies burger patrol at white horse yesterday afternoon. still the best live show in town...and they also just won a meaningless austin music award for best metal band.
Was also there to see soulhat yesterday. There were a lot of old people drunk at 2:30 in the afternoon. Enjoyed their set, looked like they were having a good time.
Camped at Kickapoo Cavern State Park over the weekend. Definitely more in the middle of nowhere than I expected. Only open Fri-Mon, they've got 15 campsites and 4 park employees. Didn't do the cave tour because we had our dogs with us, but the hiking trails were nice. Was extremely dry out there. There was an Austrian man there camping with this huge rig...
the moondoggies- don't be a stranger (2008)
roots rock in the vein of neil young/csny. i think this album is excellent. organ, vocal harmonies, twangy guitar
Kerrville-Schreiner used to be a state park, was handed over to the city of Kerrville in 2004. It's amazing how underfunded the State Parks are. Was recently looking at Kickapoo Cavern state park, they haven't had hot water at the park since December 1st and are still waiting on the funding to fix the water heater. Strangely that's a common problem that I've experienced at multiple state parks...showers but no hot water.
One of the most interesting parts about the wildflowers box set is hearing the use of familiar lyrics in different songs. Listen to "have love will travel" for the same chorus in a completely different song.
yeah, we definitely differ on the rankings of his discography. southern accents has more clunkers on it than a majority of his albums. personally it's one of my least favorites.
