    SXSW 2022

saw a lot of good bands on Friday. Meatraffle and King Hannah were the best new discoveries. difficult to overstate how good Beck was on Saturday night. went into it not expecting much...the last time I saw him was a little disappointing. half was solo acoustic and half was with a pedal steel accompanying him. he played for a long time, 25 songs over 2 hours. was thrilled that the set was heavy on songs from mutations and sea change, those are 2 of my favorites. his voice is still great and he had some good banter with the crowd. this was an all timer for me, was totally blown away. it also helped that all the badge people were late showing up so we were about 2 people from the rail the whole time. The Golden Age Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime (Korgis cover) Rowboat Say Goodbye Canceled Check Guess I'm Doing Fine I Heard That Lonesome Whistle Blow (Hank Williams cover) Pay No Mind (Snoozer) Lazy Flies Nobody's Fault But My Own Girl Dreams Hollow Log I Am the Cosmos (Chris Bell cover) Bottle of Blues Heart Is a Drum 40 Mermaids (new song) Lost Cause Asshole Fume Dead Melodies Sissyneck Country Down Debra One Foot In The Grave True Love Will Find You in the End (Daniel Johnston cover)
  2. woodlands 2001 was my first time seeing them, and the best. post 911 security was ridiculous, missed all of tricky and barely got to our seats before tool started. thought there was about to be a riot at the entrance gates.
  3. read that they're working on a live album/dvd from the 2002 lateralus tour.
  4. the sword last night at mohawk. played all the old stuff and it was great. encore was mr crowley, damn i love that song. great energy all night.
  5. just go, you may never get another chance. they're great live.
  6. have seen them several times, always good...but if you're looking for a "greatest hits" setlist you'll be disappointed.

    SXSW 2022

figured it would be impossible but i managed to get 1 beck ticket for the solo acoustic performance at acl live.
  8. on first listen this new one is definitely better than the previous release. unfortunately i won't be in town for either of the austin dates.

    Burgers

hate to hear that about hopfields. i had the same experience there a few months ago with a less than stellar burger but chalked it up to them just having a bad night. previously it was just about my favorite burger in town.
  10. just had this same conversation the other night. they were one of my favorite bands forever, and it's almost unfathomable to me that tool would put out an album in the year 2019 that i had zero interest in. opiate doesn't need to be 10 minutes long, it was fine how it was.
  11. they're great, but i was extremely surprised when i learned that those motherfuckers are from the bay area california and not from the louisiana swamps.
  12. when i was a senior in high school i did my UT campus visit and ended up going to a party that night with a friend's older sister who was already enrolled. i was very excited about my first college party, and subsequently extremely disappointed when we showed up and they were listening to REM at the party. i thought they must be giant losers because who the fuck listens to REM? still have a vivid memory of someone doing a kegstand to "man on the moon" and thinking i must be in the twilight zone. i have since come to understand why some people enjoy it, but have never gained an appreciation for their music.
  13. picked up the 1995 playback box set for $10 recently and was reading through the liner notes last night. apparently mike campbell had this on the back burner for a decade and they couldn't figure out what to do with it. the producer called in lenny kravitz, he listened to 30 seconds of the tape and immediately knew what to do...laid down the drum and bass tracks right there.
  14. they have discovered hammock life.

    Mark Lanegan RIP

His solo albums are worth exploring, some good songs on all of them.

    Bbq Austin

Fairly certain we could all throw a hell of a party with $16k of someone else's money.

    Bbq Austin

You can get a canopy at academy for far less than $16k.
  20. Tough to find any modern times cans in austin that aren't at least 4 months old.
  21. mostly agree, but hot thoughts is pretty weak. the shift from guitar to electronic did not suit them well. i do appreciate the effort though as I think it really helped them realize that guitars are a big part of their sound.
  22. they don't make very good beer. also, i don't see anything about them going out of business...appears they posted on instagram a few hours ago that they're struggling and could use some more sales but nothing indicating they're done.
  23. one more song before the album release on friday...
  24. Me too, Friday and Saturday shows. Also got tickets for the Greek in Berkeley.
  25. full concert from the wildflowers tour. sound is great and the band is on fire, the outro to mary jane's last dance is some good shit. video quality is terrible but whatever. 0:23 "Love Is A Long Road" 4:43 "You Don't Know How It Feels" 10:26 "Listen To Her Heart" 14:03 "I Won't Back Down" 18:16 "Free Fallin'" 23:13 "You Wreck Me" 27:30 "Diamond Head" 32:49 "Mary Jane's Last Dance" 41:30 "Into The Great Wide Open" 46:42 "Learning To Fly" 51:25 "Don't Fade On Me" 56:14 "Girl On LSD" 1:00:25 "I Just Wanna Make Love To You" 1:06:10 "Wildflowers" 1:10:03 "Yer So Bad" 1:13:31 "It's Good Too Be King" 1:22:58 "Breakdown" 1:27:05 "Driving Down To Georgia" 1:33:57 "Refugee" 1:38:49 "Runnin' Down A Dream" 1:48:15 "Honey Bee" 1:53:56 "American Girl" 2:00:30 "Alright For Now"
