  1. tv on the radio at stubb's. it was cold and raining...but somehow that made it even better. the crowd for the most part stuck it out and braved the rain, even seemed to give people a little more energy. the band, in turn, seemed appreciative that people were willing to stand in the rain to listen to them so they put some extra effort into it. played pretty much the same setlist as when I saw them a few years ago, which is fine. thought the sound was not quite right for the first few songs and wasn't loud enough...they seemed to have solved all of that by the 3rd song though. good show, glad the weather didn't ruin it.
  2. Been into trying out weird film lately
  3. All them witches at antones. I guess their keyboard player quit the band recently. They played a short set, barely an hour, mostly songs off the new album. It was very good, weird to hear those songs without keys though.
  4. also what do you mean by cuisine? are you specifically talking about food..something you would eat for dinner or maybe lunch? is this something you would have when you're really hungry or maybe as a snack?
  5. oh sees friday night at hotel vegas. good, but felt like they got a little bit too jammy and lost their way a few times. kind of unusual for them to stretch out songs like that.
  6. my favorite ones are this method: marinate overnight in mojo criollo and whatever else you like, smoke for ~2hrs, coat with mixture of frank's red hot and butter, throw them on a hot ass grill for a couple minutes to crisp.
  7. based on those 2 songs, she's nothing like courtney barnett.
  8. i was at the red rocks show where that was recorded, it was good but i don't think they played a single song off the first album. looks like they're playing a few more songs from mer de noms lately...even judith. haven't listened to the new album at all.
  9. I've had good luck at whole foods and salt & thyme. You have to ask, they have them in the back.
  10. Spent last week in St Croix. Wasn't sure what to expect but it was quite beautiful and super chill. Hike to the tide pools is highly recommended. Hike to the lighthouse was also pretty cool and there were some very nice deserted beaches on the road out there. Best meal we had was at Bombay in Christiansted. Leatherback brewing had some surprisingly good beers, especially after drinking Presidente all week.
  11. this recipe is excellent. have done it a couple times on the wsm and it's always turned out great. http://robbwalsh.com/2009/03/serious-bbq-barbacoa-de-borrego/
  12. tx gentlemen at justine's last night. they did a lot of jamming and it was excellent. got some grateful dead vibes on a few tunes. crowd was small and very energetic...there was an honest to god dance off that happened. really enjoyed the opener too, rattlesnake milk.
  13. david byrne at the hogg auditorium. i had taken an exam in there the week before.
  14. saw 2 nights of the growlers at mohawk last weekend. great time, pretty sure that's become my favorite venue in austin.
  15. there is plenty of parking, it does take a long time to get out of the lot after the show though.
  16. i'll reiterate...this is the right move.

    Texas BBQ

Went to 2M in San Antonio on Friday. Got there at noon and waited in line for 10 minutes. Serrano Oaxaca sausage was excellent, ribs were very good, brisket was good but not top tier. The beans tasted like homemade ranch style beans rather than charro beans, and the macaroni and cheese with chicharones on top was delicious. They had potato bread instead of white bread, and their sauce they call bbq syrup...and it does have the consistency of syrup, which I did not care for.
  18. went to river city rockfest in san antonio to see nine inch nails. caught a couple other bands as well: bush- they were bush...so not that good. primus- they've been playing their entire new album on this tour, but since they only had an hour time slot they stuck to the old stuff, which was awesome. very good set. they were only able to play half of jerry was a race car driver before they got cut off. stone temple pilots- was like watching stp karaoke. the new guy was trying way too hard to sound exactly like scott weiland and also have the same stage presence. i found him very annoying. nine inch nails- the perfect drug, mr self destruct, happiness in slavery, i'm afraid of americans...very happy with that set. their drummer is a fucking beast. the songs off the new trilogy albums sounded really good live as well. amazing how consistently awesome their live show is.

dish soap, warm water and a cloth works remarkably well.
  20. eraser, would love to see that one. seeing them saturday in san antonio but it's at a festival so i'm thinking there may not be any deep cuts.
