my texan grandmother always said, "never ask anyone where they're from, if they're from texas they'll tell you, and if they're not you don't want to embarass them."
every time i go to colorado i take every single piece of texas clothing i own, because fuck you i'm from texas.
he was also one of the people in that rolling stone article after taylor hawkins' death who essentially blamed grohl for the rigorous touring schedule. he claimed he was misquoted but i doubt that gained him any good standing in the foo's camp. i think it's extremely unlikely he joins that band.
yeah pretty sure they knew going into the tour that it would be his last. 27 years is a good run. i know lots of fans thought his style never fit the band that well, i don't completely agree with that but he's far from my favorite pj drummer.
people who go out of their way to point out "i have such diverse taste in music" are insufferable. oh wow, you like rap AND jazz. incredible! it's called being a music fan. other than your aunt franny who only listens to polka, actual music fans listen to a whole array of music. i've never once found someone with a record collection that only contains one genre. these must be the same people who think the weather in their state is special "if you don't like the weather in (insert state) just wait 5 minutes and it will change!". no shit, that's what the weather does everywhere. /rant
somewhat interesting. working in the backyard yesterday and found this. assumed it was from one of my dogs but then saw it's from 1978. no idea how it's so well preserved.
soulhat saturday night at antone's was excellent. sometimes i don't love their setlists but they played all the right songs on saturday. kevin mckinney is such a great guitarist.
they were only doing the trompo on weekends but lately i've seen it there all the time. i've had mostly good experiences there but a couple times the meat has been extremely dry.
saw him a few times at antone's back in the early 2000's after discovering his cover of "champagne & reefer" via napster. he really fell off the map for a while.
spent a few days on the beach at mustang island. was not crowded at all. beaches were clean the first couple days but quite a bit of seaweed and tar washed up on saturday. really hate getting the tar off dog paws. ate at black diamond oyster bar a couple of times and it was excellent. stopped at beach ball brewing and it was truly terrible.
levitation 2016 at carson creek ranch
big dumb fest on saturday was fun, caught several good bands. bat lips shredded hard, the grasshopper lies heavy was a good san antonio band, gus baldwin and the sketch did their normal high energy set, rickshaw billies closed it out and had the crowd going nuts.
saw the tender things at hole in the wall yesterday. nice chill sunday afternoon set.
batch was a lot better when they had guest beers. keep giving them a try and they continue to be below average. the 3's and 7's anniversary ipa at oddwood was really good though.
kevin mckinney at batch last night. kevin on acoustic and david ramirez on electric. played a mix of soulhat and solo stuff. quite enjoyable. apparently he'll be doing this once a month at batch. they cut him off promptly at 9:30, which was kind of weird because he seemed like he wanted to play longer.
soulhat is playing antone's on the 28th.
